Obituary: The Windsor Star (Windsor, ON), Friday, 11 April 1924: Veteran of 3 Wars is Dead - Served in Civil War, Fenian Raid, Riel Rebellion - Wallaceburg, April 11 - David Nelson Peats, 85, veteran of the American Civil War, the Fenian Raids and the Reil Rebellion in the west, passed away last night after having been in failing health for the past two years. Mr. Peats was born in Detroit. During the Civil War he served in the Union forces in the ammunition column. Shortly after the war he came to Canada and served in the Fenian raids in 1866, being awarded a medal for bravery, also a bounty from the government of Canada. After the Fenian excitement he located in Wallaceburg. He went to the west with the regiment raised in these parts to put down the Riel rebellion of 1885-85. By profession Mr. Peats was an engineer. He was twice married and is survived by his widow, two sons, David and Arthur, of this place, and a brother in Bay City, Michigan. Funeral arrangements are not yet complete.

John Arthur Peats: The Windsor Star (Windsor, ONT), Tuesday, 3 November 1959: Wallaceburg - Peats - Arthur, 62, died at Sydenham District Hospital, Monday, following a long illness. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Albert (Viola) Thompson, and Mrs. Jack (Lillian) Thompson, both of Wallaceburg, and Mrs. Herman (Marjorie) Smith, Detroit; two sons, Arthur and Marvin, both of Wallaceburg, and one brother, David, Wallaceburg. Mrs. Peats died five years ago. Funeral services will be held at the Douglas-Haycock Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial in Riverview Cemetery.
