- 1920 Trenton, Wayne, Michigan:  Harry R. Bates 30, wife Saddie A. 30 (Can), widowed mother-in-law Carie Turner 56 (Norway)

- Obituary:  Lansing State Journal (Lansing, MI), Friday, 3 July 1942:  Mrs. Sadie Ann Bates, 52, of 715 West Hillsdale street, died at the home early Friday morning.  She was born in Canada December 7, 1889, but had lived in this country for the past 23 years.  She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Helen Sands, Miss Shirley Bates, Miss Mary Lou Bates; one grandchild; three brothers, George Turner and John Turner of Canada, Melvin Turner of Lansing; three sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Furtah and Mrs. Howard Yoder of Lansing, and Mrs. Olive Bates of Trenton.  The body was removed to the Gorsline-Runciman funeral home to await funeral services which will be announced later.
