Obituary:  Potsdam Courier (NY), 1932: Aged Hopkinton Resident Dies – Shock proves fatal to Lewis Lashomb last week – Hopkinton, March 23 – This community was greatly shocked to learn of the death of Lewis LaShomb, aged resident of this place.  Mr. LaShomb had been in good health until Monday forenoon of last week, when he was taken suddenly ill.  Dr. Duffy of Parishville was called immediately and hope was held for his recovery until Tuesday afternoon when he had a shock, which completely paralyzed one side.  He lived but a few hours afterward and passed away at 4 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, March 15.  Mr. LaShomb was born in 1850 in Brasher, the youngest son of Peter and Adelaide LaShomb.  He had four brothers and four sisters, all of whom have passed away except Frank, who resides in Brasher.  His last remaining sister, Catherine Raymo, preceded him in death just three weeks ago.  In 1870 he was joined in marriage with Elisabeth Quenelle, also of Brasher.  This union was blessed with ten children, two boys and eight girls.  Of this number, two are dead, the oldest boy, Allen, who died in 1905 at the age of 36 and Mrs. Eleanor Ranger, who died in 1924 at the age of 37.  Mr. And Mrs. LaShomb resided in Brasher until 24 years ago, when they moved to Hopkinton, where they resided until the death of Mrs. LaShomb which occurred five years ago.  This broke up their happy home and since that time, Mr. LaShomb has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. John Sampier of Parishville, from there making frequent visits to the homes of his other children where he was always welcome.  Mr. LaShomb was a man well liked by everyone, and greatly loved and respected by his children and all who knew him.  He was a loving husband and father, and will be greatly missed by his family.  He is survived by one son, Minor, of Parishville, and seven daughters, Mrs. John Sampier of Parishville, Mrs. Jerry LaClair and Mrs. William Sharlow of Massena, Mrs. Walter Hamilton of Syracuse, Mrs. Anna Raymond, Mrs. Joseph Blair and Mrs. Ezra Perry of Hopkinton, 37 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  Funeral services were held Friday March 18 at Holy Cross Church in Hopkinton, with Rev. Father Wilcott officiating.  The bearers were the son and five sons-in-laws. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery at Hopkinton beside his wife and daughter.

Obituary:  Courier & Freeman (Potsdam, NY), 27 July 1927:  Hopkinton Woman Passes Away – Mrs. Eliza Q. Lashomb Succumbs to Long Illness – Hopkinton, July 27:  Mrs. Eliza Quenelle Lashomb passed away at her home near Hopkinton, Sunday, July 17, after a long illness of Brights disease and heart trouble.  She was born in Brasher Falls July 4th, 1852, the daughter of Anabel and Jennie Quennele.  She was united in marriage September 20, 1869 to Lewis Lashomb.  To them were born ten children, eight of whom survive: Mrs. George Laclair and Mrs. William Sharlow of Massena; Mrs. John Sampier; Mrs. Anna Raymo and Miss Minae Lashomb of Parishville; Mrs. Joseph Blair and Mrs. Ezra Perry of Hopkinton and Mrs. Walter Hamilton of Syracuse.  The funeral was held at Holy Cross church, Hopkinton, Wednesday July 20th Rev. Father Grom officiating and interment was in the Catholic cemetery here.

Obituaries for the children:

Oliva Helene 'Allen' Lajambe:  Ogdensburg Advance (NY), Thursday, 6 July 1905, Helene, July 4:  Allen Lashombe, aged 42, who has been at Adams for some time being treated by a famous doctor there for consumption, died Saturday at that place.  His remains arrived here yesterday; burial today at Brasher Falls.  He is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Lashombe of the Ridge, and was highly esteemed.  A wife and two children survive.

 

Alice Jane Lashomb:  Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday, 21 February 1961:  Mrs. LaClair Dies, Age 89 -- Mrs. Alice Jane Lashomb LaClair, 88, widow of Jerry M. LaClair, died Monday night, Feb, 20, 1961, in the Massena Nursing Home.  She had been a patient there since June 1959 and prior to that was a patient in the Cortland Nursing Home.  The body is at the Reagan funeral chapel.  Services will be conducted at 10 Thursday morning in Sacred Heart Church.  Spring burial will be In Calvary Cemetery.  Mrs. LaClair was born in Brasher Mar. 13, 1872, a daughter of Louis and Elizabeth Quenelle Lashomb.  She attended Brasher Schools.  On Feb. 17, 1896 she and Jerry M. LaClair were married in St. Patrick's Church, Hogansburg.  After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. LaClair operated the Lantry and Hall farms for five years, then purchased the farm in Brasher where they lived 18 years, moving to Massena in 1918.  He died in 1947.  Surviving are three children, Roy LeClair of Westfield, N.J., Mrs. Charles (Mae) Callahan, Syracuse and Mrs. Joseph (Irene) Comnissa, Dobbs Ferry.  A son, Joseph LaClair, for years an employee in the post office, died several years ago.  Also surviving are a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several sisters.

 

Anna LashombCourier & Freeman (Potsdam, NY), 22 January 1936:  MRS. ANNA RAYMOND DIES SATURDAY EVENING - Brasher Native Spent Entire Life In This Community - Hopkinton, Jan. 22.—This community was greatly shocked to learn of the death of Mrs. Raymond, widow of the late John Raymond of Hopkinton, which occurred Saturday evening, Jan. 18.  Death was due to acute dilation of the heart.  Mrs. Raymond was born in Brasher the daughter of the late Lewis and Elizabeth LaShombe on March 16, 1873.  Her home has always been in this community.  When twenty years of age, she was united in marriage to John Raymond, also of Brasher.  To this union, six children were born, Gailand, who passed away 11 years ago; Lewis, who died a year ago; Alpha, Mrs. Howard Bogart, who died eight years ago; Christine, now Mrs. Royal Magill, Mildred of Syracuse and Gertrude, now Mrs. George Witherell.  Mrs. Raymond was a good christian woman, greatly respected and loved by all who knew her.  She will be sadly missed by her many relatives and friends.  She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Royal Magill of Parishville,  Mildred of Syracuse and Mrs. George Witherell of Hopkinton; six sisters, Mrs. Jerry LaClair and Mrs. William Sharlow of Massena; Mrs. Ida Sampier of Potsdam; Mrs. Walter Hamilton of Syracuse; Mrs. Ezra Perry and Mrs. Joseph Blair of Hopkinton, and one brother, Minor La Shombe of Potsdam.  Tuesday morning, Jan. 21, prayers were said at the house at 9:30 and high mass at Holy Cross church in Hopkinton with Rev. Father Trudel officiating.  Interment was in the Catholic cemetery at Hopkinton.

 

Louise Lashomb:  Courier & Freeman (NY), Thursday, 21 January 1954:  Mrs. L. Sharlow, Sister of Potsdam Women, Dies - Mrs. Louise LaShambe Shallow, 79, Massena, died at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 1954, in Massena Memorial Hospital.  She had been a patient there since Monday.  She was a sister of Mrs. Ezra Perry and Mrs. Ida Sampier of Potsdam, and Mrs. Joseph Blair, Hopkinton.  Born Apr. 11, 1875 in Brasher, she was the daughter of Louis and Eliza Quenelle LaShombe and was educated in the Brasher Convent.  On Nov. 28, 1893 she and William Sharlow were married in St. Patrick's Church, Brasher Falls.  After their marriage they lived for many years on farms on the N. Racket road and the Bayley Cross road until 30 years ago when they moved into the village.  Mr. Sharlow, an Alcoa employee, was injured in an auto accident near Winthrop Mar. 22, 1953.  He died Nov. 29, 1953.  Surviving are four sons, Clarence, Irving, and Erwin, Massena; Clifford, Fort Covington; two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Eva) Fregoe and Mrs. Ronald (Ruth) McDonald, Massena, and 16 grand-children.  Also surviving are two other sisters.  Mrs. Gerald LaClair and Mrs. Lola Hamilton, both of Syracuse.  Services were held at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning at Sacred Heart Church, Massena, with the body placed in the Calvary cemetery vault.

 

Ida Lashomb:  Courier Freeman (NY), Thursday 17 May 1962:  Parishville – Funeral services for Mrs. Ida LaShomb Sampier, 82, Allens Falls Road, were held Wednesday at the Holy Cross Church in Hopkinton at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Albert Plante officiating.  Burial was at the Holy Cross cemetery.  Mrs. Sampier died May 13 in the Potsdam hospital at 4:30 p.m. after an illness of three months.  Born in Helena, Feb. 27, 1880, she was the daughter of Lewis LaShomb and Eliza Quenille LaShomb.  Mrs. Sampier spent her early life in Brasher and was educated at St. Joseph Academy in Brasher Falls.  She married John Sampier June 8, 1898, in Brasher and the couple lived on a farm near Parishville.  Mr. Sampier died in 1933.  Mrs. Sampier was a member of the Holy Cross Church at Hopkinton.  She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Leonard (Ruth) Bisnett of Parishville; Mrs. Joseph (Belva) Palermo of Niagara Falls; and Mrs. Clifford (Rilla) Dooth of Niagara Falls; two sons: Howard and Leonard Sampier, both of Parishville; three sisters: Mrs. Joseph (Hattie) Blair of Hopkinton; Mrs. Mabel Perry of Sockets Harbor, and Mrs. Lola Hamilton of Syracuse; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

 

Minor Joseph Lashomb:  Courier & Freeman (NY), Potsdam, 2 February 1950:  LaShomb Dies, Ran Postal Van - A Requiem Mass was offered for Miner Joseph LaShomb in St. Mary’s Church Jan. 24, three days after the former post office employee and bartender died in Ogdensburg.  Burial followed in Holy Cross cemetery, Hopkinton.  Pallbearers for the father of Rutherford, Neil and Elwood LaShomb were George Smith, John O'Hargan, George Amelotte, Tim Calnon, Stanley LaValley and Ezra Perry.  Leo Sullivan had charge of the funeral arrangements.  The elder Mr. LaShomb was 67 when he died after six weeks' illness in the A. Barton Hepburn Hospital.  Although he lived most of his adult life in Potsdam, he divided his time between this village and Ogdensburg since his second marriage, in 1939, to Emma Vincent, who survives him.  A native of Brasher Falls, Mr. La Shomb was born on April 30, 1882, a son of Louis and Eliza Quinell La Shomb.  Twenty-five years later in 1907, he was married to Ruby Sanpier in Hopkinton.  She died in 1936.  Of that marriage there are eight surviving children, three sons in Potsdam and the following daughters: Mrs. Margaret Rose, Ogdensburg; Mrs. Katherine Finlon, Washington, D. C. and Mrs. Mary McGuire, Mrs. June Benecke and Mrs. Benedetta McKay, all of Long Island.  The couple had 13 grandchildren.  Mr. LaShomb also leaves six sisters: Mrs. Hattie Blair and Mrs. Mabel Perry, Hopkinton; Mrs. Louise Sharlow, Massena; Mrs. Lola Hamilton and Mrs. Alice LaClair, Syracuse and Mrs. Ida Sanpier of Allens Falls.

 

Hattie Lashomb:  Potsdam Courier and Freeman (NY), Thursday, 29 February 1968:  Funeral services will be held this morning for Harriet M. Blair, 83, Hopkinton, widow of the late Joseph N. Blair, who died Monday evening, Feb. 26, at the Highland Nursing Home, Massena.  The Rev. Timothy Ladden will officiate at services at 10 a.m. today at the Church of Holy Cross, Hopkinton.  Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in the Spring.  Mrs. Blair had been a patient at the Highland Nursing Home since 1966.  She was born Oct. 20, 1884 in Brasher, a daughter of Lewis and Eliza LaRue LaShomb.  She attended Helena and Hogansburg schools.  She and Joseph N. Blair were married Oct. 22, 1906 at Sacred Heart Church, Massena.  Mr. Blair worked on the old power canal in Massena and was a blacksmith in Hopkinton for several years.  The Blairs resided in Hopkinton for 48 years.  He died May 2, 1964.  Mrs. Blair was a communicant of Holy Cross Church, Hopkinton.  Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Theodore (Leota) Fischer, Brooklyn; one sister, Mrs. Mabel Perry, Sackets Harbor; two grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
 

Eleanor Lashomb:  Potsdam Herald Recorder (NY), Friday, 6 June 1924:  Hopkinton - The remains of Mrs. Eleanor Ranger were brought here for burial on Tuesday May 13.  Her death occurred in a hospital in Niagara Falls from bronchial pneumonia.  Mrs. Ranger was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Lashombe and was born in Brasher Oct. 24, 1886.  She is survived by her parents, seven sisters and one brother.  Interment was in the Catholic cemetery.

 

Lucy 'Lola' Lashomb:  The Post Standard (Syracuse, NY), Monday, 16 August 1965:  Mrs. Lola Lashombe Hamilton of 329 W. Kennedy St., a resident of Syracuse 50 years, died Saturday in Crouse-Irving Hospital.  A native of Brasher, Mrs. Hamilton was the wife of Walter Hamilton.  Surviving besides her husband, are a son, Sheldon Hamilton of Nassau, Bahamas Islands, two sisters, Mrs. Harriet Blair of Hopkinton and Mrs. Mabel Perry of Sackets Harbor.  Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Garfield Funeral Home, 515 Westcott St., the Rev. Charles H. Schmitz officiating.  Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens.

 

Mabel Lashomb:  Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY);  Tuesday, 16 November 1976:  Sackets Harbor - Mrs. Mabel Perry, 84, of 201 N. Broad St., a Brasher Falls native and widow of Ezra Perry, died Monday afternoon at the Mercy Hospital Madonna Home, Watertown.  The funeral will be 8:30 this evening at the Cleveland-Spink Funeral Home, Sackets Harbor, and 1 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Church, Hopkinton.  Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Hopkinton.  Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.  She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Carmen) McWilliams, 201 N. Broad St.; two sons, Lyndon, Massena, and Lionel, Tupper Lake; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Another son, Armand, died in 1947.  Born at Brasher Falls, Oct. 23, 1892, a daughter of Lewis and Elizabeth Quenelle LaShomb, she married Ezra Perry May 25, 1910, at Hopkinton.  The couple moved to Sackets Harbor in 1955.  Mr. Perry died July 8, 1960.  She was a member of St. Andrew's Church.
