Obituary:  St. Landry Clarion, 19 July 1919:  Mr. Leon Pitre, an aged and respected resident of Opelousas, died at his home in this city last Sunday morning.  He leaves a large family of sons and daughters and relatives to mourn his loss.  Mr. Pitre's wife, who was Miss Leonise Richard, preceded him to the grave.  A son, Leo, died last year while in the service of his country.

Family memories:  Leon Pitre left home to be on his own when he was about 20 years old.  His uncle, Terrance Jeansonne, had taken over the family business, and Leon felt his uncle had cheated him of his inheritance when Leon received only 40 acres of land and his uncle kept the rest for himself.  This land was in Lawtell, just a few miles west of Opelousas.  Each year after the crops were harvested, Leon would hitch his oxen to a wagon and go to the "piney woods" of Kinder for 2-3 months.  Here he would cut and finish pine, bring it home, and add to his house.  Leon and his wife, Leonize Richard, are remembered by their granddaughter, Bernice Veillon Evans, as being very tall people.   Leon was 6' tall, and Leonize had large hands.  Even though she gave birth to 14 children, Leonize had a history of female trouble, and died undergoing abdominal surgery.  Leon had a history of high blood pressure, and died of a stroke.

Adras Leo Pitre:  St. Landry Clarion (LA), 19 October 1918:  Leo Pitre - Death stalks abroad during these times and the work of the Grim Reaper never ceases.  His visits to a community some times are far between and when he does arrive he leaves often his mark at many doors.  Just a few months ago Leo Pitre, son of Mr. Leon Pitre of this city, left here for Camp Martin, New Orleans, where he was to engage in special training for the military service.  Healthy and vigorous, he looked forward to doing his bit for the government, but his dream of what he would do has passed under the cold and impartial hand of death.  The young soldier, who had reached the age of twenty-five years, passed away on the 14th instant at Camp Sevier, North Carolina, another of the many victims of influenza.  His remains were brought to Opelousas on last Thursday in charge of a corporal and quietly interred in the Catholic cemetery.  His passing leaves a vacant place in the large family of Mr. Leon Pitre, and while he did not die on the field of glory, he has nevertheless given his life in the service of his country.  Man can do no more, and to the bereaved father and family this newspaper extends its sympathies in the untimely loss of their soldier boy.

Charles Pitre:  Beaumont Journal (TX), Friday, 8 August 1952:  Port Arthur, Aug. 8 - Charles Pitre, 54, of 2220 Thirteenth street, died at 5:30 a.m. Friday in the home of a daughter, Mrs. J. E. Johnson, 3524 Forty-First street, after an illness of about two years.  A resident of Port Arthur since 1939, he was a clerk for Fred Miller Hardware store and Western Auto supply.  He was a native of Opelousas, La., a Legionnaire and a World War I veteran.  Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic church, with burial at Calvary cemetery.  Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday in Grammier-Oberie chapel.  Surviving are his wife of Port Arthur; brother, Joe Pitre of Port Neches; daughters, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Alzina Himel and Mrs. D.L. Savoy of Opelousas, and Mrs. Anna Mae Boyd of New Orleans.

[Note: In his obituary his 'daughters' are his sisters.]

Ardus Joseph Pitre:  St. Landry Clarion (LA), 8 August 1914:  Joseph Ardus Pitre, fifteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Pitre, died at the family residence on the west end of this city, on last Monday evening, after an illness of several days.  The remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery, which a large concourse of friends and relatives of the Pitre family gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to the young man, who had all the promises of making a vigorous man. Young Pitre was well known among the school children of Opelousas, where he was attending school.  Death came as a great shock to the many friends of the family, as the boy was generally considered very healthy.  He was an energetic young man full of life and always willing to lend a helping hand to his fathers interests.

Hilda Pitre:  The Daily Advertiser (Lafayette, LA), Monday, 6 January 1936:  Opelousas, Jan. 6 - Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Hilda Pitre, 34-year-old wife of Gordon Bardin, who died here.  The funeral took place from the residence of her sister, Mrs. Steven Himel, with services and interment in the Opelousas Catholic church and cemetery.  The Reverand A. B. Colliard officiating.
