Misc:  Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Wednesday, 8 December 1948:  Brasher Iron Works Man seeks news of Brother.  Massena, Dec. 7 - John LaShomb, 90, of Brasher Iron works, who is is Massena Memorial hospital in poor condition, is looking for his brother, Frank LaShomb, according to Mrs. Joseph Bobian.  Frank LaShomb left his home in Winthrop several weeks ago to visit New York city and several other places.  Efforts by Mr. and Mrs. Bobian of Cook street road, to locate him have proved unavailing.  The young couple ask that Frank LaShomb contact either them or the hospital since Mr. LaShomb would like to see his brother.  John LaShomb fell in his home two weeks ago and broke his leg between the knee and hip.  He was operated on Monday morning at the hospital.

 

Obituary:  Massena Observer - Monday 10 January 1949: Winthrop-Funeral services will be conducted at 1 o'clock Tuesday morning for John Lashomb, 88, of Brasher Iron Works, who passed away at 11 o'clock, Friday evening, Jan. 7, 1949 in the Potsdam Nursing Home.  On Nov. 21, 1948, he fell and fractured his hip and had not been well since that time.  Mr. Lashomb was born in Brasher, Feb. 24, 1860, one of seven children of John and Sophia Thomas Lashomb and had always lived in Brasher.  A brother, Joseph Lashomb and a sister, Mrs. Charles (Mary) Sova have passed away.  Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Vernon Perica, Brasher Iron Works, Mrs. Hattie LaVare, Dexter; two brothers, Frank Lashomb, Winthrop; Charles Lashomb, Watertown; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Helen) LaVack, Springfield, Mass; Mrs. Joseph (Cora) Mousaw, Union Springs, N. Y., also eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  The Rev. John A. Cotter will conduct funeral services at St. Patrick's Church, Brasher Falls.  Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Obituary:  Massena Observer (NY), Thursday, 12 February 1925:  Brasher Woman Dies - Mrs. John Lashomb died at 2:00 o'clock Monday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Verne Perrica, 19 Willow street, Malone.  For the past two years she had been ailing from general debility, having twice underwent serious operations.  The deceased was 68 years of age.  She was a native of Brasher Falls and it was in that town that she spent the most of her life.  She was a member of Notre Dame church and was held in high esteem by her many friends.  She went to Malone to reside at her daughter's home about five years ago and since that time she had lived with them.  Surviving, besides her husband, who resides in Brasher Falls, are two daughters, Hattie Lavare, St. Regis Falls, and Mrs. V. J. Perrica, with whom she resided; two sons, George, of Potsdam, and Gerdie of Utica; three brothers, Louis and Richard Shorette, of Brasher, and Alfred, of Traverse City, Mich., and one sister, Mrs. Frank Lavare, of Canton.  Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 9:00 o'clock from Notre Dame church, Malone.  The body was placed in Notre Dame vault until spring, when interment will be made at Brasher Falls.

Obituaries for the children:

Harriett 'Hattie' Lashomb:  Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Wednesday, 8 January 1964:  Mrs. M. Harriett LaShomb LaVere, 82, formerly of 156 Jackman street, widow of Alexander LaVere, died at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday in the Jefferson County hospital where she had been a patient since Dec. 3.  She had been in nursing homes since 1961 and a patient at the county hospital on other occasions.  The funeral will be Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the Reed and Benoit funeral home and 9 in St. Patrick's church.  Burial will be in North Watertown cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Surviving are four sons, Robert, in California; Laurence W., New York city; Kenneth J., Middle road, Pillar Point, and Greene, address unknown; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  A daughter, Hazel, died years ago.  Mrs. LaVere was born Sept. 8, 1881, in Brasher Falls, a daughter of John and Amelia Shorett LaShomb.  She was married in North Lawrence in 1897 to Alexander LaVere.  They separated years ago.  Mr. LaVere died in St. Lawrence county Sept. 25, 1958.  In recent years Mrs. LaVere had been a housekeeper for John Hewitt, in Brownville and in Watertown.

George Joseph Lashomb:  Courier Freeman, Potsdam NY, Wednesday 6 September 1939: George LaShomb, 54, 28 Cherry street, resident of this village for the past 15 years, died about 3:30 yesterday afternoon a short time after he suffered a heart attack while at work at the Racquette River Paper mill.  Born Sept. 18, 1885 in Brasher Falls, he was a son of John and Amelia Shorrett LaShomb and resided there for a number of years, operating a farm.  Since moving here 15 years ago, Mr. LaShomb had been employed at the paper mill.  Surviving, besides his wife, Mrs. Mary LaShomb, are five daughters, Evelyn, Jean, Blanche, Mrs. George Thurston, and Mrs. Walter Cameron, all of Potsdam; a son, Harold, Potsdam; his father, John, Brasher Falls; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Perricca, Poughkeepsie and Mrs. Hattie Lavair, Dexter, and a brother, Fred, Potsdam.  The funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Friday in St. Mary's church and burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery here..

Gerdie 'Fred' Lashomb:  Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Thursday, 10 April 1947:  Potsdam, April 10 - Fred J. LaShomb, 60, died suddenly at his home, 3 Walnut street, yesterday shortly before noon.  Death was attributed to a heart attack.  Mr. LaShomb, who was employed at the Racquette River Paper company mill, had been in apparent good health until Sunday, when he complained of illness.  He worked at the mill Monday, but returned to his home in the afternoon, where he had remained Tuesday and yesterday.  He was dressed and around the house yesterday morning and had had breakfast at the table.  Later, he complained of illness.  He died shortly after the arrival of a physician.  Mr. LaShomb was born at Brasher, April 14, 1886, a son of John LaShomb and the late Mrs. LaShomb.  He was twice married.  His first wife was Charlotte Santimaw.  The couple had two children.  Several years ago Mr. LaShomb was divorced from his first wife, and in June, 1944, he married Mrs. Harriett LaPointe of Potsdam.  The couple had resided in Walnut street.  During the earlier part of his life, Mr. LaShomb had lived in Utica for about 30 years; and for 17 years was employed with the Millard & Sons company in that city.  For the past nine years, he had been employed at the Racquette River Paper company, Unionville.  Mr. LaShomb is survived by his wife; two daughters by his first marriage, Lucille, Washington, D.C., and Dorothy, Utica; his father, John LaShomb, Brasher; two sisters, Mrs. Vern Perrica, Poughkeepsie, and Mrs. Hattie LaVale.

- Massena Observer (NY), Thursday, 17 April 1947:  Mr. and Mrs. Vern J. Perrica and daughter, Mrs. Sam Longie, and son, Richard, Poughkeepsie, were called to Potsdam by the sudden death of Mrs. Perrica's brother, Fred LaShomb.  They spent the weekend with Mr. Perrica's sister, Mrs. Ed Shampine, Mr. Shampine and their family, West Hatfield St.

 

Mary Louise Lashomb:  Massena Observer (NY):  Mrs. Perrica Dies, aged 71:  Mrs. Mary Louise Lashomb Perrica, 71, wife of Vernie John Perrica, Brasher Iron, Works, died Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 23, 1960.  In failing health several years, Mrs. Perrica's condition became worse.  She died at Massena Memorial Hospital.  Death was unexpected.  She was born in Brasher Iron Works, Jan. 24, 1889, a daughter of John and Amelia Shorette Lashomb.  She attended schools in the area and was married to Mr. Perrica June 20, 1908.  They lived in Massena for a time and then moved to Poughkeepsie in 1926.  An employee of the New York Telephone Co., he retired in 1947 and they moved back to Brasher Iron Works.  Surviving are the husband; four daughters, Mrs. Santo (Anna Mae) Longi, Wappinger Falls; Mrs. Harold (Irene Louise) Ronk and Mrs. Robert (Betty Jean) Andrews, both of Poughkeepsie, and Mrs. Norman (Verna Theresa) Newtown, in Brasher Falls.  Another daughter, Mrs. Harold (Kathy Helen) Rose, died in Poughkeepsie in 1944, and her three children went to live with their grandparents. They are Mrs. Dolan (Virginia Rose) Phillips, Brasher Center; and Mrs. Bernard (Beverly) Phillips, Norwood, and Betty Rose, who was killed in a sleighing accident in 1953.  Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Hattie Lavair, Brownville, now in a Watertown hospital.  A number of nephews and nieces survive.  Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning in St. Patrick's Church, Hogansburg, and burial was made in Notre Dame Cemetery, Malone.
