- Estate of Joachin L. Pitre (filed
28 July 1866): Melazie Pitre, widow of Joachin L. Pitre, petitions the court
as her husband has left a small estate in community with herself. "That
said deceased left seven children issue of his legal marriage with petitioner.
That six of said children are minor to wit Leonie, Emma, Apolina,
Lasthenie, Francois, and Octave Pitre." She is appointed natural
tutrix and Francois L. Pitre is appointed under tutor. The inventory which
was taken on 27 April 1866 lists property inherited by
Madame Joachin Louis Pitre from her father Joseph Pierre Pitre and other items
totalling $1243.50.
- Filed 4 April 1868: To the Hon. Judge of the eighth Judicial
District Court of the State of Louisiana, acting in and for the parish of St.
Landry. The petition of Cleophas Comeau of the parish of St. Landry State
of Louisiana with respect represents that he is a creditor of Onezyme Louis
Pitre and of the estate of Joachin Louis Pitre who has lately died in
the parish of which he was a resident. That his claim is evidenced by two
notes each of $133.17, dated Plaisance 22nd June 1860 payable to order of J.M.
Thompson endorsed by him to your petitioner with interest at eight per cent
per annum from date till paid, exigible one twelve months after date, one two
years after date, signed by hand Joachin Louis Pitre and Onezime Louis Pitre
in solido. That said claim though long since due remains unpaid.
That since the death of said Joachin Louis Pitre his surviving wife
Melazie J. Pitre has taken possession of his estate and is adminus teriu,
the same as surviving partner of the community and as natural tutor of her
children. That she has given no security for the faithful performance of
the obligations which may be imposed upon her by law in favor of the creditors
of said estate. That your petitioner is desirous of being appointed
administrator of the said estate of Joachin L. Pitre decd. late of St.
Landry. The premises considered petitioner prays that after the legal
delays and publications, he be appointed administrator of the estate of said
Joachin L. Pitre decd. late of St. Landry. ---- petitioner ---- for
all other orders and decrees necessary in the premises and for general relief.
