Obituary: Ogdensburg Journal (NY), Friday, 13 February 1942: MAN DIES SUDDENLY: Gouverneur - Gedion (Jeddie) Pitre, 49, died suddenly Monday afternoon near his farm on the Rossie-Brasie Corners road while talking to Mr. Steinburg of Ogdensburg, with whom he had had cattle and hay business deals. During the early afternoon Mr. Pitre had helped clear the roads of snow and the exertion was believed to have been the cause of death. Mr. Pitre was born at Bourget, Canada, June 1, 1892, a son of Moise and Olivine La Belle Pitre. He came to this country with his parents when he was nine years of age. On Feb. 3, 1916, he married Miss Edith Arnold of Natural Bridge. He was employed by the Watertown Mattress Company 30 years. After the death of his father in 1936 "Jeddie" purchased the home farm near Philadelphia and lived there until last August when the farm became a part of Pine Camp. Survivors include the widow and three daughters, Mrs. Edith Marshall of Geneva, Gloria and Virginia, living at home; two sons, Jeddie Pitre of Ogdensburg and Gordon at home; three brothers Mosie Pitre of Alexandria Bay, Tenos Pitre of Theresa and Leo Pitre of Carthage; and four sisters, Mrs. Carl Hart, Mrs. Garfield Beckstead and Mrs. Lena Pitre of Gouverneur, Mrs. Arthur Allen of Rossie and nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. James Catholic Church in Gouverneur. Rt. Rev. Msgr. C. J. Crowley, assisted by Rev. Frederick Shue, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur.

Obituary: Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Friday, 27 August 1976: Mrs. Edith M. Pitre, 83, of 309 Mill St., a former resident of the Natural Bridge section, and widow of Gedion Pitre, died at 7:30 this morning at the House of the Good Samaritan where she had been admitted Aug. 13. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Benoit C. Dostie, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur. Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Cummings Funeral Home. She is survived by a son, Jeddie I. Pitre, Carthage; three daughters Mrs. Edith K. Schamback, Del Ray Beach, Fla., Mrs. Gloria M. Garnsey, Clayton, and Mrs. Virginia E. Edgar, Watertown; a brother, Claude Arnold, Natural Bridge; 25 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren. Another son, Gordon A. Pitre, Syracuse, died before her. Born Aug. 24, 1893 in the town of Diana, Lewis County, a daughter of Hiram and Jennie Baker Arnold, she married Gedion Pitre Feb. 26, 1913, in Sacred Heart Church, Watertown. The couple resided on the Rossie Brasie Corners Road several years and operated a farm there. Mr. Pitre died Feb. 9, 1942, at the age of 49 years.

(Pete Marshall) Schamback, 71, of 406 Hugunin St., died Monday at the Edward John Noble Hospital in Alexandria Bay where she had been a patient since Wednesday. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Cummings Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church with Rev. Bruce T. Favreau, parochial vicar of St. Mary's Church, officiating. Burial will be in Clayton Cemetery. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Cancer Research Ceneter at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown. Mrs. Schamback is survived by two sons, Gerald G. (Sonny) Marshall, Clayton, and Harold D. She was born on April 1, 1914 in Sterlingville, daughter of Jedion and Edith (Arnold) Pitre. She attended Watertown area schools. She married Harold H. Marshall in Pompano Beach, Fla. He died in December 1967. She later married Gale Schamback in Boynton Beach, Fla. He died in February 1984. She worked as a waitress in the Clayton area during the summers and in Florida during the winters.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Rita's Church, Deferiet, with Rev. Patrick Callahan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Evans Mills. Calling hours at the McGraw Funeral Home are this evening and Tuesday afternoon and evening. The couple had farmed in the Evans Mills area before moving to Syracuse, where Mr. Pitre was a welder for the Carrier Corp. Mr. Pitre later was a construction worker on the New York State Thruway and then operated a gas station in the Syracuse area. He was a communicant of St. Rita's Church, Deferiet.

A native of Gouverneur, Mr. Pitre was a resident of Syracuse 28 years. He was employed as a truck driver for 28 years at the Peter A. Frasse Steel Co. Inc. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ardis Hickok Pitre; five sons, Ralph, Gary and Bryan Pitre of Syracuse, Joseph of Solvay, and Randy Pitre of U.S. Marine Corps, stationed at Camp LeJeune, N.C.; five daughters, Mrs. William Clifford of Mexico, N.Y., Mrs. Linda Cummings of Solvay, Mrs. Stephen Emmons of Bridgeport, Mrs. Edward Squires and Miss Penny Pitre, both of Syracuse; his mother, Mrs. Edith Pitre of Syracuse; a brother, Jeddie Pitre of Carthage; three sisters, Mrs. Gail Shamback, Mrs. James Garnsey, both in Florida, and Mrs. Virginia Edgar of Carthage; and 20 grandchildren. Gloria Marie Pitre: South Florida Sun Sentinel (Fort Lauderdale, FL), Tuesday, 25 December 2018: Gloria Marie Garnsey, 91 a long time resident of Pompano Beach passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 14, 2018. Born October, 1927 in Gouverneur, NY she and her husband Jim moved from Clayton, NY to South Florida in the late 1940s. There she made a home, raised three children and in 1992 retired from Bendix Avionics (Allied Signal) after over twenty years. Her life revolved around her family, friends and St. Coleman's church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. Gloria was preceded by her loving husband of 59 years, James B. Garnsey, Sr. She is survived by her devoted children James Garnsey, Jr. (Marianne), Allen Garnsey (Pam), and Sherri Garnsey Gluth (Jeff). She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Tina Garnsey Gavin, Tracy Frost, Charles Garnsey, Nicholas Garnsey, Allen Garnsey, Ryan Gluth, Allison Garnsey and Danielle Gluth as well as twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends. A Memorial Mass is being planned for late February 2019.

Virginia Evelyn Pitre: Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Saturday, 12 January 2013: (photo) Virginia Evelyn Edgar, 82, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 10th, 2013 with family at her side. Virginia was a graduate of Gouverneur High School, worked for Bausch & Lomb in Rochester and she was a foster grandparent in Syracuse. She is predeceased by her parents, two brothers, a sister and a great-grandson. She is survived by a sister, Gloria Garnsey of Pompano Beach, FL; two daughters, Suzanne (Sue) Carlson and Patricia (Pattie) Moynihan; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be offered Monday 10 AM at Most Holy Rosary Church, Chapel, 111 Roberts Ave., Syracuse. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memory Gardens, Dewitt.
