Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Wednesday, 2 July 1941:  Well Known St. Landry Farmer Buried Today - Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 for Jean Baptist Pitre, 60, who died Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. at his home in Washington.  The funeral cortege left the Plaisance home of his daughter, Mrs. Herbert Fontenot, for Ville Platte where burial rites were held in the Catholic Church.  Interment was in the Ville Platte cemetery with Lafond & Son in charge.  The deceased, a well known farmer of the Plaisance section, is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Herbert Fontenot, of Plaisance, two sons, Louis Pitre of Ville Platte and William Pitre of Port Arthur, Tex.; one sister, Mrs. Frank Durion of Lake Charles, and three brothers, Joseph and Moise Pitre of near Ville Platte and Jules Pitre of Washington, D.C.

Louis Allen Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Friday, 4 March 1966:  Ville Platte - Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Louis Pitre, 57, of the Grand Prairie section, who died at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette at 2:15 a.m. Thursday.  Surviving are his widow, the former Etta Deville; one brother, William Pitre of Port Arthur, and one sister, Mrs. Hubert Fontenot of Grand Prairie.  Interment was in the church cemetery with Ardoin Funeral Home in charge.

 

William Austin Pitre:  The Beaumont Enterprise (TX), Friday, 25 February 2005:  William Pitre, Sr., 95, of Port Arthur passed away Thursday, February 24, 2005 at Park Place Medical Center in Port Arthur.  Services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 26, 2005 at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur with Rev. Stephen McCrate officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.  A gathering of friends will take place from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Friday with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.  Born on February 8, 1910 to his parents, Jean and Emily Pitre in Ville Platte, Louisiana; Mr. Pitre had lived in Port Arthur for over eighty years.  He was a retired operator in the motor oil department at Texaco Oil Refinery for over thirty-three years, a member of the O.C.A.W. #423.  Mr. Pitre was a member of the National Maritime Union and was an Engineering officer in the Merchant Marines during World War II.  He was also past Democratic Precinct Chairman and was very active in Democratic politics.  Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Ruth Griffith Pitre of Port Arthur; sons, William Pitre, Jr. and his wife Colleen of Port Arthur; Danny Pitre and his wife Cheryl of Orange; six grandchildren, Jennifer Davis, Stephanie Wilkins, Ryan Pitre, Laurie Moreau, John Pitre and Brent Pitre; four great-grandchildren and Mr. Pitre would have had four great-great-grandchildren, two of which are twins, they are expected in the near future.  The family would like to thank Park Place Hospital, Promise Specialty Hospital, Dr. Allen Williamson and his staff for all of their care they gave to our dad.  The family would like to offer special thanks to his caregiver, Sandra Brunotte, thanks so much for taking care of daddy, he will miss you and we know you will miss him.

Lula Pitre:  The Ville Platte Gazette (Ville Platee, LA), Monday, 24 February 1986:  Funeral services for Mrs. Lula P. Fontenot, 74, of Ville Platte were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  She died at 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas following a long illness.  Burial followed in the Evangeline Memorial Cemetery and was directed by Ardoin Funeral Home of Ville Platte.  Survivors include: four sons, Beverly G. Fontenot of Ville Platte, Louis Darrel Fontenot of Houma, Herbert Butch Fontenot and Joseph J. Fontenot, both of Ville Platte; one daughter, Mrs. Mack (Barbara Lynn) Corcoran of Bogalusa; one brother, William Pitre of Port Arthur, Tx.; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
