Obituary:  The Springfield Daily Republican (MA), Monday, 17 August 1942:  Henry I. Peat, 58, died suddenly this morning at 7.45 at his home, 20 Lincoln street.  He was born at Morris Falls, N.Y., but had lived in North Adams for 26 years.  He was a member of St. Francis's church.  Besides his widow, Carolyn, he leaves five daughters, Mrs. Chester Jurzyk of Adams, Mrs. Edwin Busby and Misses Rita, Mary and Joan; a son, William, all of North Adams.  The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9 at St. Francis church.  Burial will be in Southview cemetery.

Obituary:  Springfield Union (MA), Friday, 23 October 1970 - North Adams - Mrs. Caroline (Ranger) Peat, 74, of 153 State St. died Thursday in North Adams Hospital.  She was born in Canada.  She leaves five daughters, Mrs. Edward Farinon, with whom she made her home, Mrs. Margaret Jurczyk of Albany, N.Y., Mrs. Elizabeth Writmore of Visalia, Calif., and Mrs. Rita Clermont and Mrs. Joan Tetreault, both of Adams, and a son, William of Bennington, Vt. Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna home for funerals is in charge. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.

Joseph Xavier William Pitt (aka Peat):  Rutland Herald (VT), Friday, 2 May 2003 - Bennington:  William Peat Sr., 87, a former resident of Port Orange, Fla., died May 2, 2003, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center.  Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.  There will be no calling hours.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Bennington County, through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, 05201.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

 

Exilda Elizabeth Peat:  Misc:  North Adams Transcript (North Adams, MA), Wednesday, 6 February 1952:  Despite a police escort, a North Adams man allegedly was pushed down a flight of stairs by his estranged wife last evening in her home where he had gone to get some clothing for his two children.  And this morning in district court, Mrs. Elizabeth P. Busby, 32, of 8 Richview avenue, pleaded not guilty of assault and battery upon Edwin Busby, now of Reservoir road, from whom she is separated.  The case was continued to Saturday for hearing at the request of Police Chief John F. Flaherry.  At 6.40 o'clock last eveing, Mr. Busby telephoned police headquarters and asked for a police escort, explaining that by pre-arrangement, he was going to his former home to pick up some clothing for his two children, for which he has custody.  He said the clothes were packed and ready for him.  Patrolmen Edward W. Cyurasz and S. E. Williams were assigned to go to the home on Richview avenue and 'stand by' while Mr. Busby completed his mission.  Police said Busby climbed the stairs to the second floor, picked up a large bundle of clothes in his arms and was preparing to descend the stairs when his wife pushed him, and he fell the entire length of the stairway.  The two officers immediately placed Mrs. Busby under arrest.  Busby told police he hurt his left arm in the fall, and said he would see a doctor.  Atty. Bernard Lenhoff appeared in court this morning for Mrs. Busby.  He said he was 'pinch-hitting' for Atty. John N. Alberti, her lawyer, who had a case at the same time in the Adams court.  [She was found guilty on 16 February 1952, but the charge was filed.]

 

Marie Rita Evelyn Pitre (aka Peat):  North Adams Transcript (MA), Monday, 11 March 2002:  Rita E. Clermont, 78, was Adams homemaker - Rita E. Clermont, 78, of 75 Commercial St., Adams, died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at the Williamstown Commons Health Care Center.  Born in Lachine, Canada, on Dec. 16, 1923, she was the daughter of Henry and Caroline Elizabeth (Ranger) Peat.   She came to North Adams with her parents at the age of two and attended city schools including the former St. Joseph High School.  She worked for many years for the Sprague Electric Co., North Adams, and the former General Cable Corp., Williamstown.  She was a housewife and homemaker most of her life.  he came to Adams in 1943.  She was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame Des Sept Douleurs and St. Thomas Aquinas, Adams, where she was a former member of the Ladies of Anne and the parish choir.  Her husband, Paul A. Clermont, whom she married Sept. 6, 1943, died Jan. 3, 1986.  She leaves a son, Paul W. Clermont of Adams; a daughter, Gail Wellington of Adams; a brother, William Peat of Bennington, Vt.; two sisters, Mary Farinon and Joan Tetreault, both of North Adams; four grandchildren, Adam Clermont, Ernest Wellington, Rebecca Therrien and Laurie Therrien; two great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

Mary Elda Peat:  The Berkshire Eagle (Pittsfield, MA), Wednesday, 11 March 2015:  North Adams - Mary Elda (Peat) Farinon, 87, of 40 Sperry Ave. died Monday March 9, at North Adams Commons.  She was born in North Adams, on Jan. 18, 1928, daughter of Henry and Caroline (Ranger) Peat.  She attended local schools and graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School with the class of 1945.  Mary first worked at Sprague Electric Co. for 34 years.  She was last employed by the City of North Adams at the City Hall for 25 years until her retirement.  She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.  She was the widow of Edward Leo 'Flock' Farinon who died on July 13, 2002.  They were married on June 6, 1946.  Survivors include one daughter, Deborah Isbell of Acushnet, Mass.; and one son, Edward A. Farinon of Acushnet, Mass.  She also leaves four grandchildren including, Carol Bentz of Adams, Chilli Moulton of Shrewsbury, Mass., and Maria Farinon and Jeff Isbell, both of Acushnet, Mass.; and four great-grandchildren including, Samantha Moulton, Max Moulton, Katie Bentz, and Joe Bentz; and one sister, Joan Tetreault of North Adams; and nieces and nephews.  Two brothers and three sisters are deceased including, William Peat, Richard Gallagher, Margaret Jurczyk, Betty Whitmore, and Rita Clermont.  Mary's family would like to thank the staff of the North Adams Commons for the excellent care they gave to Mary.  FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday March 13, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will be in the spring in Southview cemetery.  There are no calling hours.
