Obituary:  Times Picayune (New Orleans, LA), 29 October 1975:  Blanche Gaspard Pitre, on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1975, at 1:15 o'clock a.m., daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Melfort Gaspard, wife of Ignace Pitre, mother of Dr. Vern Pitre of Thibodaux, La., Milton Pitre of Houma, La., half-sister of Pierre Gaspard of Houma, La., also survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, age 72 yrs., a resident of Houma, La.  Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services from The First National Funeral Home in Houma, La., on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1975 at 10:30 o'clock a.m., religious services at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.  Interment at the Terrebonne Memorial Park.  Arrangements are being handled by the Chauvin Funeral Home.

Vernie Anthony Pitre:  Houma Courier (LA), August 1997:  Died Aug. 31, 1997- Newspaper date not available:  Pitre, Verne - (partially paraphrased from a larger article): Vern Pitre, a native and resident of Lafourche Parish, age 71, died Aug. 31, 1997.  Visitation will be from 5 to 10 p.m. today at Landry Funeral Home in Thibodaux.  A graveside service and burial will be at Hillcrest cemetery in Goodman, Miss, at 2 p.m. Wednesday.  A memorial service will be held at a later, undetermined date at First United Methodist Church in Thibodaux.  He is survived by his wife, Ouida Boyette Pitre; one son, Dennis Pitre of Houma; two daughters, Jackie Lindsley of Thibodaux and Darlene Bergeron of Houma; one brother, Milton (Bob) Pitre; and six grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, I.J. Pitre and Blanche Gaspard Pitre.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.  Mr. Pitre was author of a weekly Courier article "Coffee Break"; he also authored several books.  He volunteered at Laurel Valley Plantation and Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center.  He was a member of the Terrebonne Parish Genealogy Society; and he was inducted into the American Cancer Society Hall of Fame.

 

Milton Joseph Pitre:  The Daily Comet (Lafourche, LA), Tuesday, 4 January 2011:  Milton Joseph Pitre Sr., 71, a native of Cut Off and a resident of Houma, died at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011.  Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.  He is survived by his wife, Patricia Dryden Pitre of Houma; one son, Milton "Petey" Pitre Jr. and wife, Donna; two daughters, Connie Pitre Chauvin and husband, Andy, and Melissa "Missy" Pitre Price and husband, Jody; one brother, Gerald "Jerry" Caime and wife, Beth; seven grandchildren, Kenny Price and wife, Sarah, Joey Price and companion, Candice Chaisson, Scotty Price, Kyle Chauvin, Jeff Chauvin, Joshua Comeaux and Tori Comeaux; and three great-grandchildren, Trent Price and Kenna and Kara Price.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ingance Joseph Pitre and Blanche Gespard Pitre; his biological parents, Norbert Chabert and Argentina Delice' Chabert; three brothers, Senator Leonard J. Chabert; Louis Chabert and Vernie Pitre; and one sister, Lucy Caillais Leaycraft.  He was the owner of Pitre Hardware and Marine for 30 years and owner of American Marine and Hardware.  He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church.  He lived for his family and loved his wife, children and grandchildren more than anything.  He was a great provider and outstanding husband, father, grandfather, uncle, father-in-law and friend.  He was always there for anyone who needed him and no need was ever too big or small.  He was greatly loved by many and will be missed by all.  Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
