Obituary: Houma Courier (LA), August 1997: Pitre, Verne - (partially paraphrased from a larger article): Vern Pitre, a native and resident of Lafourche Parish, age 71, died Aug. 31, 1997. Visitation will be from 5 to 10 p.m. today at Landry Funeral Home in Thibodaux. A graveside service and burial will be at Hillcrest cemetery in Goodman, Miss, at 2 p.m. Wednesday. A memorial service will be held at a later, undetermined date at First United Methodist Church in Thibodaux. He is survived by his wife, Ouida Boyette Pitre; one son, Dennis Pitre of Houma; two daughters, Jackie Lindsley of Thibodaux and Darlene Bergeron of Houma; one brother, Milton (Bob) Pitre; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, I. J. Pitre and Blanche Gaspard Pitre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Mr. Pitre was author of a weekly Courier article "Coffee Break"; he also authored several books. He volunteered at Laurel Valley Plantation and Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center. He was a member of the Terrebonne Parish Genealogy Society; and he was inducted into the American Cancer Society Hall of Fame.

Obituary: Lafourche Daily Comet (Thibodaux, LA), Wednesday, 25 July 2007: (photo) Ouida Boyette Pitre, 87, a native of Sallis, Miss., and resident of Thibodaux, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2007. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at First United Methodist Church. Religious service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial Friday at Hillcrest Cemetery in Goodman, Miss. She is survived by one daughter, Jackie Ellis Lindsley; one granddaughter, Ryan Kathleen Mire; two sisters, Edna Boyette Bowling and Claudine Boyette Mathews; one stepson, Dennis Pitre and wife, Phyllis; one stepdaughter, Darlene Pitre Bergeron and husband, Donald; her nieces and nephews, and her beloved pets. She was preceded in death by her husband, Verne Anthony Pitre; her parents, Edgar James Boyette and Hattie Burrell Boyette; one brother, James Hewitt Boyette; and one nephew, Robert Earl Boyette. She was a retired educator and was a bridge player as well as a philosopher. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hope for Animals, Thibodaux, LA, or a charity of choice. Landry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
