Obituary:  Kennebec Journal (Augusta, ME), Tuesday, 4 January 1938:  Freeman Peters died yesterday at the home of his sister, Mrs. Moses Thebeault, Pittston, where he has been making his home since the death of his son, Frank Peters, two weeks ago.  He was a resident of Gardiner for 38 years.  He was born December 21, 1857, in Rustico, Prince Edward Island, the son of Steven and Judith Gallant Peters.  He was the husband of the late Mary L. Splude Peters.  He is survived by two sons, Manuel J. Peters, Haverhill, Mass., and John Peters, Pittston; four daughters, Mrs. Alice Bates, Auburn, Mrs. Emma Dill, Gardiner, Mrs. Josephine McCourtney, Augusta, and Miss Evelyn Peters, Hebron; three brothers, Gilbert Peters, St. Johns, New Brunswick, Joseph Peters, Duluth, Michigan and John Peters, Gardiner; two sisters, Mrs. Moses Thibeault, Pittston and Mrs. Dennis Bishop, Litchfield; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Funeral services will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Obituary:  Kennebec Journal (Augusta, ME), Monday, 20 March 1933:  Mrs. Louise Splude Peters, formerly of New Brunswick, who for the past 30 years had made her home here, passed away Saturday morning at the Gardiner General hospital after an illness of six weeks.  She had been in failing health for the past two years.  She was born in New Brunswick, December 13, 1868, the daughter of Joseph and Harriet Santon Splude.  She leaves besides her husband, Freeman Peters, three sons, Frank Peters, Gardiner, Joseph M. Peters of Haverhill, Mass., and John Peters of San Antonio, Texas; four daughters, Mrs. Alice Bates of North Cohasset, Mass., Mrs. Josephine McCourtney of Augusta, Mrs. Emma Dill of Gardiner and Miss Evelyn Peters of Gardiner; four brothers, Joseph Splude of Wisconsin, James Splude of California, George Splude of Minnesota, and William of California; two sisters, Mrs. Mary McNair of New Brunswick, Canada, and Mrs. Elizabeth MacChristian, also of New Brunswick, and six grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Joseph's Catholic church.

 

Obituaries for the children:

Joseph Alfred Pitre:  Sun Journal (Lewiston, ME), Tuesday, 18 October 1904:  Augusta, Me., Oct. 18 - Fred Peters, aged 17 years, who was struck by a railroad train at Gardiner, Monday evening, died at the city hospital here early Tuesday morning.  Three young boys were with Peters at the time of the accident and one of them was a younger brother.  The four boys were leaning against the back side of Gilson's new carriage shop, waiting for freight No. 37 to pass.  When the freight had gone by on the east-bound track, Peters stepped onto the west-bound track just as train No. 90 came down.  The moving freight made so much noise that the down train was not heard and Peters was struck before he could get off the track.  Evereything possible was done for the lad, but he lived only a few hours.

 

Francis Pitre:  Kennebec Journal (Augusta, ME), Saturday, 18 December 1937:  Frank Peters, 47, died suddenly at his home at the corner of Libby Hill and Brunswick roads at about 7 o'clock Friday evening.  He had been in his usual health in the afternoon, and died shortly after returning from a business trip into Gardiner.  Dr. G. W. Alexander County Medical Examiner described death to natural causes.  He had lived here for the past 36 years, coming from New Brunswick.  He was born July 4, 1890 at Dalhousie, N.B. the son of Freeman and Louise (Splude) Peters.  He leaves his wife, Mrs. Florence Peters, one son, Francis Peters; two brothers J. Manuel Peters, Haverhill, and John Peters, Pittston; four sisters, Mrs. Alice Bates, Auburn, Mrs. Emma M. Dill, Gardiner, Mrs. Josephine McCourtney and Miss Evelyn Peters, Hebron, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.  Funeral Services will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Staples funeral home, 53 Brunswick, Avenue.

Marie Alice Pitre:  Sun Journal (Lewiston, ME), Saturday, 12 November 1960:  Dr. M. S. F. Greene, Androscoggin County medical examiner, gave a verdict of death due to acute heart disease in the case of Mrs. Marie Alice Belliveau, 67, wife of Philip J. Belliveau of the Martindale Road, Auburn.  Mrs. Belliveau toppled from a five-foot stepladder on which she had been working shortly before 12:30 p.m.  Belliveau called Auburn police for aid, but within a few minutes again called authorities to state he believed his wife was dead.  Mrs. Belliveau was born at Restigouche, N.B., Oct. 16, 1893, the daughter of Freeman and Louise F. Plourde Peters.  She was educated in the schools of Restigouche, and came to the United States at the age of three.  She was married in Auburn in 1938 to Philip J. Belliveau and spent all of her married life there.  Mrs. Belliveau was employed for many years by the Clark Shoe Company of Auburn before her retirement in 1957.  Surviving are her husband, of Auburn; one son, George H. Higgins of Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Amontie of Hingham, Mass.; two brothers, John Peters of Brunswick and Manuel Peters of Haverhill, Mass.; two sisters, Mrs. Josephine McCourteney of Augusta and Mrs. Evelyn Bates of Brockton, Mass.; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; two stepsons, Ernest Belliveau of North Hollywood, Calif., and Albert Belliveau of San Fernando, Calif.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Rita Arel of South Portland and Mrs. Viola Marez of Auburn; and four step-children.

Marie Emma Pitre:  Kennebec Journal (Augusta, ME), Friday, 5 October 1945:  Gardiner - Emma Mary Dill died unexpectedly early Monday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Rock, 26 Neal Street.  She worked as usual Wednesday.  Born in Jacquet River, New Brunswick, Oct. 13, 1897, she was the daughter of Freemen and Louise (Splude) Peters.  She came to Gardiner to live about 45 years ago.  She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Rock of Gardiner; two brothers, Joseph M. Peters of Haverhill, Mass., and John Peters of Pittston; three sisters, Mrs. Philip Beliveau of Auburn, Mrs. Ralph A. McCourtney of Augusta, and Mrs. Elwyn W. Bates of Gardiner; several uncles and aunts, cousins, and nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at one o'clock at the Staples Funeral Home, Gardiner.

 

Josephine Pitre:  Kennebec Journal (Augusta, ME), Thursday, 27 July 1978:  Augusta - Mrs. Josephine V. McCourtney, 78, of 67 Arsenal St., died Tuesday night in Augusta General Hospital after a long illness.  She was born in St. John, New Brunswick, June 2, 1900, the daughter of Freeman and Mary Louise Splude Peters.  Mrs. McCourtney was a practical nurse, employed by the Augusta General Hospital for over 30 years, retiring in 1968.  She and her husband, Ralph, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in February.  She was a member of the Rose of Sharon chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; the White Ray Club and United Postal Service Clerks Women's Auxiliary.  She is survived by her husband, Ralph A. McCourtney, Augusta; two sons, Carl H. McCourtney, Gardiner; Paul J. McCourtney, Hallowell; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Joan Nichols, Windsor; Mrs. Judith M. Dennett, Augusta; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at 15 Flagg St., Augusta.

Arthur Peters:  Kennebec Journal (Augusta, ME), Wednesday, 10 September 1930:  News of the death of Arthur Peters, 26-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Peters of Brunswick road, which occurred Monday evening at the Fairfield Sanitarium where he had been a patient for the past few weeks, was received in Gardiner Tuesday night.  He was born Nov. 15, 1903.  Besides the parents, he is survived by three brothers, Frank of this city, Joseph M. of Haverhill, Mass., and John of Texas; four sisters, Mrs. Allen M. Higgins, Mrs. Emma M. Dill and Miss Evelyn M. Peters, all of this city, and Mrs. Josephine McCourtney of Augusta, also several nieces and nephews.  Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

 

John Peters:  Kennebec Journal (Augusta, ME), Monday, 22 December 1969:  Sanford - John Peters, 64, died unexpectedly in Goodall Hospital Sunday morning.  He was born April 1, 1905, in Gardiner, the son of Freeman and Louise Splourd Peters.  A former Gardiner resident, he had been emloyed here for 30 years by the Federal Government as an electrician.  Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Arline Thibeault Peters of Sanford; a brother, Joseph M. Peters of Haverhill, Mass.; a sister, Mrs. Josephine McCourtney of Augusta; an uncle, Dennis Bishop of West Gardiner; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  A requiem Mass will be sung at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gardiner.
