Raymond E. Peters, 74, formerly of 425 Broadway died Sunday at a local
nursing home after a long illness. He was born in Westbrook, a son of
Thomas and Minnie Degou Peters, and attended Westbrook schools. During
World War II, Mr. Peters served with the Army in the Philippines. For more
than 30 years he was employed by Governor Baxter School for the Deaf, and the
Sportsman's Grill in Portland. He retired in 1987. Mr. Peters was a
communicant of Holy Cross Church. Surviving are his wife of 49 years,
Bertha Demers Peters; three daughters, Judith A. Thibeault of Coral
Springs, Fla., Patricia E. Peters of Westbrook and Andrea M. Bartnick
of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; four sons, Thomas C., R. Scott and Russell E.,
all of Portland, and Richard L. of South Portland; a brother, Ernest
of Oregon; and 10 grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at
10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Church. Arrangements by Conroy-Tully South
Portland Chapel.
