Massena Observer, Thursday, 21 April 1904:  Charles Lashomb a section hand on the R. W. & O. railroad at this place lost his index finger on the right hand at the first joint last Sunday.  He was engaged in repairing a switch when one of the other men threw the lever, catching Lashomb's finger and cutting it completely off.
 

Obituary:  Massena Observer (NY), Thursday, 8 June 1950:  C.J. Lashomb passes away at age of 87:  Watertown: Charles J. Lashomb, 87, of 450 Cross St., retired New York Central Railroad employee and former resident of Massena, died at 6:50 Wednesday morning, June 7, 1950, in the Mercy Hospital, where be had been a patient since May 28.  Death was caused by a stroke.  Mr. Lashomb, who resided with a daughter, Mrs. Arthur A. (Maud) Buck, 450 Cross St., was in his usual good health until Sunday morning, May 28, when he was suddenly stricken ill while at the Buck cottage at Guffin's bay.  He was brought by ambulance to the hospital, where he failed steadily until his death.  His wife, Mrs. Addie Sharlow Lashomb, also 87 years old, died Aug. 11, last, at the home of another daughter, Mrs. Roy T. (Rose M.) Squier, at Watertown Center, where Mr. and Mrs. Lashomb then resided.  Surviving Mr. Lashomb, besides the two daughters, Mrs. Buck and Mrs. Squier, are another daughter, Mrs. Arthur A. (Delia) McMann, Champion; a son, Leonard J. Lashomb, city; a brother, Frank Lashomb, Massena; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Another daughter, Mrs. Claude E. (0rma) Simonette of Massena, died Aug. 3, 1945 in the Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensdurg.  Mr. Lashomb was born at Brasher Falls, July 3, 1862, a son of the late John and Sophia Crapser Lashomb.  He attended school at Brasher Falls.  Later he moved to Massena, where for many years he was an employee of the New York Central Railroad.  He was superintendent having charge of maintenance and repairs of rolling equipment.  On July 4, 1883, he married Miss Addie Sharlow of Massena in Massena.  Mr. And Mrs. Lashomb resided in Massena until about 29 years ago when they came to this city.  For a time he was employed as car repairman by the railroad here, retiring about 20 years ago.  Except for a period of years when he lived with his son, Leonard, on a farm on the Cemetery Road and a period of 16 months when he resided at the Squier home at Watertown Center, he had lived in this city since leaving Massena.

Obituary:  Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Wednesday, 10 August 1949:  Mrs. Addie Sharlow Lashomb, 87, wife of Charles J. Lashomb and former resident of Massena, died this morning at 2 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roy T. (Rose M.) Squier, Watertown Center, with whom she resided.  Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 from the Squier home and at 9:30 in St. Patrick's church.  Burial will be made in Glenwood cemetery.  Surviving Mrs. Lashomb, besides her husband, are four children, Mrs. Arthur A. (Maude) Buck, 104 South Hamilton street, Mrs. Arthur (Delia) McMann, Champion, Mrs. Roy T. (Rose M.) Squier, with whom she resided, and Leonard J. Lashomb, 934 State street; seven grandchildren and a brother, Benjamin Sharlow, Raymondville.  Another daughter, Mrs. Claude E. (Orma) Simonette of Massena, died Aug. 3, 1945, in the Hepburn hospital, Ogdensburg.  Mrs. Lashomb had been ill the past 13 months, being confined to her bed most of the time.  She had suffered a series of strokes, which, together with infirmities of old age, caused her death.  She was born at Massena April 8, 1862, a daughter of the late William and Sophia Sharlow.  She was married to Charles J. Lashomb, also of Massena, on July 4, 1883, in that village.  Mr. and Mrs. Lashomb resided in Massena until about 25 years ago when they moved to this city.  They formerly resided at 450 Cross street.  They moved to the Squier home a little more than a year ago.  Mr. Lashomb, formerly employed in the maintenance department of the New York Central railroad, is now retired.

- Massena Observer (NY), Monday 15 August 1949:  Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bobian, Mrs. Joseph LaShomb, Cook St. Rd., and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pratt, 18 Grinnel Ave., attended the funeral of their aunt, Mrs. Charles LaShomb, in Watertown Saturday morning.  She was the former Miss Addie Sharlow and was born in Brasher.  The family lived here until about 25 years ago when they moved to Watertown.  Surviving are the parents and four children.

Obituaries for the children:

Orma Lashomb:  Massena Observer (NY), Friday, 3 August 1945:  Mrs. Orma Simonette, 58, wife of Claude E. Simonette, local freight and passenger agent, died in Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensburg at 7:30 o’clock this morning.  Mrs. Simonette had been in failing health for the past two or three years.  She had been in the hospital for two months.  A son, Francis Rolland Simonette, has been serving in France and Germany, and it had been hoped that he would be given an emergency furlough.  He may be enroute home.  His unit is moving from the European theater to the Pacific, with a 30-day furlough in the States.  Mrs. Simonette was born in Brasher, June 1, 1887, a daughter of Charles and Ada Sharlow Lashomb, now residing on State St., Watertown.  She was educated in the local schools and in early life was married to Mr. Simonette.  They lived in Massena, Adams, and Watertown, then returned to Massena.  Surviving are her parents in Watertown; husband; three children, Mrs. L. E. (Mildred) Fick, Champlain, Reginald Simonette, Norwood, and Pfc. Francis Simonette, U S. Army; one brother, Leonard Lashomb, Watertown: three sisters, Mrs. Roy T. (Rose) Squir, Watertown; Mrs. Arthur (Delia) Oaks, Carthage, Mrs. Arthur (Maude) Buck, Watertown.  Mrs. Simonette was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.  Funeral services will be held in that church, the day yet to be decided.

Rose M. Lashomb:  Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Monday, 16 July 1979:  Mrs. Rose M. Squier, 93, of 5658 Watertown Center Loop, widow of Roy T. Squier, died Sunday afternoon in Highland Nursing Home, Massena.  She had resided in Massena with a niece, Mrs. Mildred Simonette, before moving to the nursing home.  The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Church.  Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.  Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Simpson-Lundy Funeral Home.  She is survived by nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Simonette, Mrs. Leoma Grosse, Carthage, and Mrs. Reatha Beyer, Watertown, and Rolland Simonette, Rochester.  Three sisters and a brother died previously, Mrs. Orma LaShomb Simonette, on Aug. 3, 1945, Mrs. Delia McMann, on June 24, 1958, Mrs. Maude LaShomb Buck on June 2, 1966, and Leonard LaShomb on May 12, 1977.  Born in the Town of Massena Jan. 8, 1886, a daughter of Charles J. and Addie Sharlow LaShomb, she attended Massena schools.  She married Roy Squier Nov. 14, 1906, at St. Cecilia's Church, Adams.  The couple lived in Adams one year and moved to Watertown.  Mr. Squier opened a meat market on Factory Street Sept. 10, 1908.  He was one of the original organizers of the Elkhorn Markets Corp., his store becoming Store No. 4.  Mr. Squier opened his own store on State Street in 1922.  The store was sold to the Grand Union June 5, 1930.  The couple moved to a new home at Watertown Center and raised silver foxes.  The sold property to the Robert Hall Corp. in 1957 and in 1961 their home and 10 acres were sold to the Watertown Bowl.  The couple moved to the Watertown Center Loop in 1962.  Mr. Squier died June 26, 1976.

 

Maude M. Lashomb:  Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Friday, 3 June 1966:  Mrs. Maude M. Lashomb Buck, 79, wife of Arthur A. Buck, 450 Cross street died at 1:20 Thursday afternoon in the House of the Good Samaritan, where she had been a patient since May 18.  She had undergone an abdominal operation May 20.  Mrs. Buck had been ill for years and had been a hospital patient on various other occasions.  She had undergone a number of operations during that time.  The funeral will be Monday morning at 9:30 from the Simpson Funeral home and at 10 in St. Patrick's church.  Burial in Glenwood cemetery.  Surviving her, besides her husband, are four children, Harold A. Buck and Mrs. Leoma M. Grosse, 450 Cross street, Mrs. Francis P.(Reatha F.) Beyer, 139 North Hamilton street, and Donald F. Buck, Watertown Route 4, Calcium road; a sister, Mrs. Roy T. (Rose M.) Squier, Watertown Center; a brother, Leonard J. Lashomb, 104 South Hamilton street; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  Two other sisters are dead.  They were: Mrs. Claude E. (Orma) Simonette of Massena, who died in the Hepburn hospital of Ogdensburg Aug. 3, 1945, at the age of 58, and Mrs. Arthur W. (Delia A.) McMann of West Carthage, who died June 24, 1958, in the family car while it was parked at the service station of the Sears Roebuck & company store in Arsenal street.  She was 68 years old.  Mrs. Buck was born in Massena Feb. 10, 1887, a daughter of Charles J. and Addie Sharlow Lashomb.  The family lived in various places, including Brasher, the town of Norfolk and Massena.  She was married to Arthur A. Buck of Massena in the Sacred Heart church of Massena on May 30, 1903.  Mr. and Mrs. Buck resided in various places, including Massena, Raymondville, Norfolk and Watertown.  They returned to Watertown from Massena Nov. 11, 1918, and since then lived here.  She was a member of St. Patrick's church.

Delia Lashomb:  Watertown Daily Times (NY), Wednesday, 25 June 1958:  WOMAN EXPIRES IN PARKED CAR - Mrs. Delia A. Lashomb McMann, 68, wife of Arthur W. McMann of ?8 Bridge street, West Carthage, formerly of Watertown and Champion, died suddenly of a heart attack shortly after 3 Tuesday afternoon in the family car while it was parked in the service station of the Sears Roebuck & Company store in Arsenal street.  Mrs. McMann, who had been afflicted with a heart condition for years and had an attack only about a week ago, had been in the store shopping and had just returned to the car, which was being serviced in the service station.  She complained to her husband of illness and remarked she had evidently overexerted herself by the walk up and down the stairs in the store.  She then slumped in the seat of the car and apparently died instantly.  Police were called and Patrolman Christian Whitman investigated.  A physician, summoned to the scene, pronounced the woman dead.  Dr. William Saunders, city health officer, was also called and the body was subsequently removed to the Simpson funeral home.  Surviving Mrs. McMann, besides her husband, are two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Roy T. (Rose M.) Squier, Watertown Center, Mrs. Arthur A. (Maude) Buck, Watertown, and Leonard J. Lashomb, also of this city.  Mrs. McMann was born in the town of Norfolk Oct. 10, 1889, a daughter of the late Charles J. and Addie Sharlow Lashomb.  She came to this city with her parents when she was about 16 years old.  She was married to Arthur W. McMann of Watertown on March 4, 1919, in Massena, where her parents were then residing.  After a short time in Massena, Mr. and Mrs. McMann returned to this city to reside.  In 1936 they moved from this city to the Pierce farm, near Champion, which they had purchased, and resided there until 1951 when they moved to West Carthage.  The funeral will be Friday morning at 9 from the family home, West Carthage, and at 9:30 in St. James' Catholic church, Carthage.  Burial will be in Glenwood cemetery, Watertown.  The body will be taken to the home from the funeral home late this afternoon.

 

Leonard John Lashomb:  Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday, 17 May 1977:  Watertown - Leonard J. LaShomb, 86, formerly of 104 S. Hamilton St., a Massena native, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday at the Ryan Nursing Home where he had resided the past four years.  Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the Simpson Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church.  Burial was made in Glenwood Cemetery.  Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Rose Squier, Watertown Center loop; two nephews, Reginald Simonette, Norwood, and Roland Simonette, Rochester; three nieces, Mildred Simonette, Massena and Florida, Mrs. Leoma Gross, Carthage and Mrs. Retha Beyer, 139 N. Hamilton St.  Three sisters, Mrs. Maude Buck, Mrs. Delia McMann and Mrs. Orma Simonette, predeceased him and a brother died in infancy.  He married Mrs. Sophia Demo Jessmer years ago.  She died July 23, 1965, at the age of 82.  He operated a grocery store in Massena before serving with the Army in World War I with duty in Europe.  Following his discharge, he moved to the Watertown section and operated a fox farm at Watertown Center.  He also operated farms and bought and sold farm real estate.
