MISC:  The Freeholder (Cornwall, ONT), Friday, 18 August 1893:  About one o'clock on Monday afternoon the fire brigade were called out by an alarm, and the fire was discovered to be in a large shed on the property of Alex. Lashamb, carpenter, which was used by him as a workshop.  The building was composed of very dry material, which burned with great fierceness, and by the time the brigade got there it was burned to the ground.  Lashamb also lost some carpenter's tools in the blaze.  How the fire originated is a mystery.

Obituary:  The Cornwall Standard (Cornwall, ONT), Thursday, 29 September 1921:  An old and highly respected resident of the town, Mr. Alexander Lashamb, passed away on Thursday last, 22nd inst., in the 75th year of his age.  The deceased, who was born in Summerstown, was a son of the late John Lashamb, and had resided in Cornwall for the past fifty-five years.  He was a carpenter by trade and was an expert workman and erected many buildings during his long residence here.  For a period of thirty-nine years he was in partnership with Mr. John Adams in the building and contracting business.  He was thoroughly reliable in all his dealings with his fellow men, and his word was as good as his bond.  He was held in very high esteem by all who enjoyed the pleasure of his acquaintance, and the announcement of his death was received with many expressions of regret in the community.  The deceased was twice married, his first wife dying seventeen years ago.  Two years later he married Mrs. Robert Rouselle, who survives him.  He also leaves five sons and four daughters to mourn his loss.  The funeral took place on Saturday morning last from the residence of his step-daughter, Mrs. J. H. Briggs, where deceased had made his home for the past year, to the Church of the Nativity and St. Columban's cemetery.  The Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Rev. D. McDonald.  There was a large attendance of old friends and neighbors, showing the esteem in which deceased was held and the sympathy felt for the bereaved relatives.  The pall-bearers were Messrs. L. Lashamb, nephew, J. Plamondon, W. J. James, T. Cummins, A. Adams and John Adams.  Among the relatives present from a distance was Mrs. A. Riviere, of Montreal, sister of Mrs. Lashamb, Messrs. Theodore and Victor Lashamb, sons of deceased arrived later in the day, but were unable to be present for the funeral owing to bad train connections.  Many handsome floral and spiritual offerings were placed on the casket by the family and sympathizing friends.  The bereaved widow and other relatives have the sympathy of the community.

Obituaries for the children:

Wenceslaus Lajambe:  The Freeholder (Cornwall, ONT), Friday, 3 November 1893:  Last Friday afternoon a telephone message was sent to Cornwall from Lancaster, stating that Wilfrid Lashamb of this town was drowned about 12 o'clock that day while hunting ducks in that vicinity in the St. Lawrence River.  Lashamb was hunting ducks in company with R. Corrigan, tailor.  The facts of the case as told by Mr. Corrigan, are about as follows: Messrs. Corrigan, Weller and Pinkerton, in company with Lashamb went on the duck shooting expedition on Wednesday, and after some shooting had been done together, the former taking Lashamb as his assistant parted company with the other sportsmen.  On account of the rough state of the weather and Lashamb's inability to handle a boat, no shooting was done till Friday a little before noon, when both started out.  Operations were commenced near Tupper Island, which is situated a mile and a half out in Lake St. Francis, a little below Lancaster and near the light house.  From a blind on which the two men were situated some ducks were shot, and as they floated down the lake Lashamb took the boat to secure them.  The first intimation that Mr. Corrigan received of danger was Lashamb rowing with all possible speed towards the blind, and Mr. Corrigan not knowing what this proceeding meant shouted to Lashamb that he had not called him, Lashamb made no reply, but stood up in the boat, pulled off his overcoat, sat down and commenced pulling with furious strokes towards the blind, the boat seeming to be very low in the water.  It was then that Mr. Corrigan saw that the boat was going down, and in a few seconds boat and all had disappeared from sight.  Mr. Corrigan from his position on the blind, which was anchored, was powerless to render any assistance, as he had no boat or even an oar to move the blind along.  The boat went down about twenty rods from where the blind was anchored, and Corrigan himself was in a helpless position out in the middle of the lake with no means of getting to shore.  For two hours and a half he called for help, occasionally firing off his gun to attract attention, and was finally noticed by a man from Lancaster, who put out with a boat and took him off.  An effort was made to find the body, but it was without avail.  How the boat went down it is hard to explain.  When he started on his errand he only had a pair of oars, a gun and a stone anchor.  The boat was a good one, Mr. Corrigan says it being perfectly seaworthy, and until the boat is recovered it will always be a mystery as to how the accident occurred.  There is a possibility of the gun being accidentally discharged and putting a hole in the boat, but Mr. Corrigan says he heard no report.  As the wind was blowing in the opposite direction this theory is not improbable.  Many think the accident was caused by the boat shipping water, which with the occupant's weight sent it to the bottom.  The river where Lashamb went down was only from five to six feet deep.  A score or more of boats kept up a search all day Saturday and also Monday, but without success.  Wilfred Lashamb was about 19 years of age, and was the eldest son of Alex. Lashamb, carpenter.  It is only a few weeks since his uncle committed suicide by hanging himself to a tree a short distance east of the town, while suffering from mental derangement, and in their late bereavement the family have the genuine sympathy of the entire community.

- The Freeholder (Cornwall, ONT), Friday, 31 October 1913:  From The Freeholder November 3, 1893:  Wilfrid Lashamb of Cornwall, while hunting ducks on Lake St. Frances below Lancaster with a number of Cornwall men, was drowned on Oct. 27.  He went out in a duck boat and it was thought his rifle was discharged in the boat, making a hole in it.  One of the men nearby was seated on a blind, but was unable to rescue the unfortunate man as the blind was anchored.  Lashambe was 19 years of age.

- The Freeholder (Cornwall, ONT), Thursday, 14 May 1914:  From The Freeholder May 18, 1894:  The body of Wilfrid Lashamb, who was drowned in the fall of 1893, while duck hunting on Lake St. Francis, was found near St. Zotique by the steamer Rocket on May 11.

- The Northern Observer (Massena, NY), Thursday, 24 May 1894:  The body of Alex. Lashamb, of Cornwall, who was drowned while hunting ducks near Lancaster last fall, was found near St. Zotique, by the crew of the steamer Rocket last Saturday.  The remains were brought to Cornwall for interment.
