Notes for Leon Leonard:

- Leon was accidentally killed 28 December 1931 at Greenwood Plantation near Thibodaux.  As was his custom, he used the railway track to walk the distance from his home on nearby Breaux Plantation to his job at Greenwood.  A loss of hearing prevented him from hearing the approaching train.  He was struck and run over by a string of cars on a narrow gauge railroad used in hauling cane from the field to the mill.  The locomotive was commonly known as a "dummy."  Leon was a well-liked person, and was considered an industrious worker.  (Leonard: A Partial Genealogy submitted by Mrs. Cecilia L. Notes for Felix Leon Leonard:

- Felix Leon Leonard was born in 1825 in St. John Parish.  In 1844, three months after his 19th birthday he married Donatilde Elizabeth Bourg, who was only 14 and a half.  They were so young that they needed parental permission from both sets of parents.  This was given by all 4 parents, although Donatilde's father was the only one who was able to sign instead of making an X.  Donatilde's marriage at such a young age, for good or bad, allowed them to have 17 children, including 3 sets of twins.  They seemed to be at a loss for names on those occasions, as the twins were duly christened Ernest & Ernestine, Leon & Leonie, and Leon Joseph & Leoncia Josephine.  It was probably not an easy life, but the Leonards tended to live in close proximity.  Felix was a sugarcane farmer, living about 6 miles above Thibodeaux.  Donatilde died at the age of 53; undoubtedly all those pregnancies had taken their toll.  But Felix lived to be 66.

- Marriage Permission: Consent for our daughter Donatille to marry Felix Leonard.  Signed 24 May 1844 Colastie Aysaine (her mark) & Maxil Bourg.  Consent for our son Felix Leonard to marry Donatille Bourg.  Signed 25 May 1844.  Marks of Therese Leche & Joseph Leonard.
