May 1894 PA, d. 6 March 1946 Charlotte, N.C. New Orleans Item, Monday, 29 May 1922: A quiet but exceedingly pretty wedding of the spring was that of Miss Dorothe Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Holmes Johnson to Mr. Richard Chapman Bradbury, of Philadelphia, which was celebrated on Tuesday evening May 30 at 8 o'clock at Christ church chapel. The wedding was to have been a large affair, to be followed by a reception, but owing to recent mourning in Miss Johnson's family, the plans were changed. Miss Johnson is particularly pretty and since her debut a few seasons ago has been one of the very clever and attractive members of the younger social sets. Her only sister is Mrs. Samuel Bradbury of New York, who came South for the wedding. Mr. Bradbury is the son of Mrs. Samuel Bradbury, of Philadelphia, and is a brother of the bride's sister's husband, Dr. Samuel Bradbury, of New York. The chapel was simply decorated with palms and ferns. Miss Johnson was a particularly lovely bride, wearing a gown of crepe satin and duchess lace made on long simple lines draped and caught to one side with a pearl ornament. A real lace train fell from her shoulders and her veil of illusion was becomingly arranged with orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of lilies of the valley. Her attendants were her sister, Mrs. Samuel Bradbury, as matron of honor and Misses Bessie Johnson and Emilie Bradbury, a sister of the groom, as bridesmaids. They wore charming gowns of cream lace made with green girdles with loops and a train of one side. They carried pale pink Atlanta roses. Miss Johnson was given away by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer H. Johnson. Mrs. Johnson also wore a cream lace gown with a train and girdle of green Georgette. She wore a corsage of pale pink roses. Mr. Cummings of Christ church officiated. Mr. Eads Johnson was Mr. Bradbury's best man and the groomsmen and ushers were: Messrs. Warren Johnson, Austin Reiss, Charles Dunbar Jr., J.B. Richardson and Johnson Richardson. The brodal party entered by Lohengrin's wedding march and Mendelssohn's was the recessional. Mr. and Mrs. Bradbury left on an extended trip and will be at home after July 1 in Germantown, Philadelphia. Among the out-of-town guests for the wedding were: Mrs. Samuel Bradbury, Jr., of Philadelphia, mother of Mr. Bradbury, and his sister, Miss Emilie Bradbury, also of Philadelphia; Mrs. Anna Railie of San Francisco, an aunt of the bride, and Mrs. Samuel Bradbury and her children of New York. Times Picayune, Thursday, 7 March 1946: On Tuesday, March 5, 1946, at Charlotte, N.C., Richard Chapman Bradbury, a native of Germantown, Philadelphia, Pa., husband of Dorothe Johnson of New Orleans, father of Richard Bradbury, brother of Emily C., Samuel and Frederick W. Bradbury of Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Paul W. Brown of Downington, Pa., and William C. Bradbury of New York, N.Y. The funeral will take place on Thursday, March 7, 1946, at Charlotte, N.C. The body will be taken to Philadelphia, Pa., for private services and interment.
