- Cambridge Chronicle and Journal, Friday, 26 October 1821: Thomas Sell, George Cutts, John Blotts jun., Wm. Docwra, Wm. Pearman jun., John Shambrook, Geo. Deller jun. and Frederick Fortune - These men were indicted for a riot at Bassingbourn, and for rescuing George Cutts from the constable. It arose from the defendants' jealousy at a party of Irishmen being employed in that village at harvest-work, and whom they were endeavouring to drive away rather forcibly, which occasioned a great number of people to assemble, and make a great noise, being armed with large sticks, etc. The jury, after retiring for an hour, found them all guilty; and Sell, Cutts, Shambrook, and Pearman, the most riotous, to be imprisoned 8 months, the other four to 6 months' each.

- Cambridge Independent Press, Saturday, 27 July 1839: The Trials - (lengthy report of a sheep theft) In brief, farmer missing a sheep, some bloody wool was found in a field belonging to Mr. Simeon Sell. Nehemiah Sell was in custody some time ago and Sell's house was not searched when the sheep was lost. Nehemiah Sell, labourer, deposed in on a Saturday night in December 1837 he saw the prisoner take the farmer's sheep.
- Cambridge Chronicle and Journal, Saturday, 22 October 1842: The County Sessions...The following prisoners pleaded guilty...Simeon Sell, of Bassingbourn, for stealing two loaves. Saturday, 29 October 1842: Simeon Sell, 37, charged on the oath of Jemima Wilkerson and James Wilkerson, with having on the 8th inst., at Bassingbourn, feloniously stolen two loaves of bread, the property of James Wilkerson. Pleaded guilty - six week's hard labour. Criminal Registers: 1842 - Simeon Sell, age 37, larceny, imprisoned 6 weeks
- Cambridge Independent Press, Saturday, 11 August 1849: Bassingbourn - Alarming Incendiarism - About midnight on Monday last, the extensive farm premises of Mr. Simeon Sell, of Bassingbourn, were discovered to be on fire, nearly the whole of which were soon levelled to the ground; fortunately there was no grain of any kind in the barns. The horses and other cattle were got out in time to be saved, with the exception of a calf, which was burnt to a cinder. The Bassingbourn engine, which is a very powerful one, and is well managed under the superintendence of Mr. Thomas Sutton, was out and at play in good time to save several cottages, which must otherwise have fell a sacrifice to the devouring element. [This was one of 5 fires in the space of a few months, believed to be an arsonist.]

- Cambridge General Advertiser, Wednesday, 6 August 1845: Crown Court - (Lengthy article) In brief, Nehemiah Sell charged with assaulting and wounding on 24 April 1845 at Haverhill, along with Thomas Dickerson. Jury deliberated for a little over an hour and then returned a verdict of guilty against both prisoners, who were forthwith, having been previously convicted of felony, transported for 15 years.

August 1852: Bassingbourn - Inquest - On Monday last, an inquest was
holden in this village before Mr. Marshall, on view of the body of Samuel
Sell, a labourer, aged about 78 years. The deceased had been ailing
for some time past, and on the Thursday night previous complained of a pain in
his chest, when he went to bed. He took no nourishment afterwards except
tea, and gradually sunk, and died on the Sunday night. Verdict, "Died by
the Visitation of God."
