Richard Cole was born Abt. 1772, and died 16 August 1833 at St. Matthew, Ipswich, Suffolk.

 

Wife Mary Stinton was born Abt. 1777, and died 10 September 1836 at Gazeley, Suffolk.  They were married 18 September 1806 in Barking, Suffolk.

- The Suffolk Chronicle, Saturday, 7 November 1840:  William Cole (son of the late Mr. R. Cole) Begs respectfully to announce to the Inhabitants of Ipswich and its Vicinity, that he has taken the Premises, lately occupied by Mr. Butcher, Tavern Street, two doors from the Cornhill, in which he intends carrying on the business of Chemist & Druggist, And trusts by the experience he has had in one of the first houses in London, a determination to keep Articles only of genuine quality, together with unremitting assiduity, to merit a portion of their patronage and support.  Ipswich, November 6th, 1840.

- The Suffolk Chronicle, Saturday, 24 August 1861:  Died - On the 22nd of June, at Hong Kong, of apoplexy, in his 46th Mr. William Cole, brother of Mr. Richard S. Cole, Cornhill, Ipswich.

this to be my last Will and Testament.  I give and devise all and every my freehold messuages hereunto ----- and real estate whatsoever and wheresoever situate lying or being with their and every of their appurts unto and to the use of John Raw of Ipswich aforesaid bookseller his heirs and assigns forever upon and for the several trusts and under and subtitle the several powers provisors and declarations therein after expressed and declared of and  --uoring the same | that is to say | upon trust that he the said John Raw or his heirs do and shall with all convenient speed after my decease sell and dispose of my said freehold messuages hereunto and --orodits? and real estate either by public auction or private rouhart? at his or their discretion for the best price or prices and for the most money that can reasonably be obtained for the same except as to the freehold dwelling house situate in the parish of Saint Matthew in Ipswich aforesaid and now in my own occupation the option to purchase which I intend shall be given to my dear son Richard Stinton Cole in manner herein after actioned?  Also I hereby empower own and direct the said John Raw or his heirs to make sale and dispose of all my copyhold messuages tenements and ---bits whatsoever and whereever with their appurbly sale or sales as aforesaid for the best price or prices and most money that can be reasonably obtained for the same copyhold premises except as to my said copyhold messuages situate in the parish of Saint Matthew in Ipswich aforesaid late in the occupation of David Harris the option to purchase which I also intend should be given to my said son in manner herein after also expressed and as to the monies to arise by the sale of my said messuages ----dits and real estate | freehold and copyhold | herein before advised or directed to be sold and the rents and profits hereof after my decease until sale I will and direct that the same shall be applied and disposed of as herein after mentioned provided always nevertheless and I do hereby declare my will and mind to be that my said son Richard Stinton Cole shall have the option and offer to take and purchase not only the said messuages or tenements and ---- now or late in the several occupations of myself and the said David Harris but also all my plate jewellery forks watches working tools and stock in trade of every description in and about the said messuages and tenements now in my own occupation at such prices as shall be determined to be the value thereof respectively by two different persons cognisant in the value of such property one of whom shall be appointed by the said John Raw or his heirs and the other by my said son or at such respective prices as shall be set thereon by any third person whom such  two referred shall previously to their having -utored upon the said valuation fix upon as their ----- to my said son ordering this --toution to de---- such purchaser or not within one calendar month next after my decease ---- in --- my said son shall not accept such option and offer hereby given him or shall declare to b---- such purchaser of the said messuages plate jewellery forks watches working tools and stock in trade then I direct my said trustee or trustees for the time being to make sale of and convert into money the same respectively in such manner as he or they in their discretion shall deem proper and as to the monies to arise by such last mentioned sale and disposition I will and direct the same shall become part of the general residue of my personal estate provided also that in case my said son shall agree to borrow such purchaser as last aforesaid then it shall and may be lawful to and for my said trustee or trustees to give such day or days for payment not exceeding four years from the time of my decease by four equal yearly instalments of the amount of the said valuation or any part or parts thereof and upon such security recouping interest at the rate of four pounds per return per annum and he or they in his or their discretion shall think fit and proper but not at his or their risk or hazard.  Also I give and bequeath unto Mary Cole my beloved wife all such part and parts of my furniture ---- and household effects as she shall make ----- of for her own use and absolute disposal and as to all other my personal estate chattels and Stinton Cole | my executors herein after named | their executors and advisors upon trust to call in and ----- such part and parts thereof as shall consist of money or securities for money or debts to me out and owing and to sell and dispose of and convert into money all such part and parts thereof as shall not consist of money or securities for money and as to all and every the monies to arise under or by virtue of the several trusts therein before contained I will and direct that the said John Raw and Richard Stinton Cole and the survivor of them his executors and administrators shall stand and for possessed of and interested in the same upon and for the several trusts interests and purposes therein after expressed and declared thereof | what is to say | upon trust in the first place to pay and satisfy all my just debts funeral and testamentary charges and the legacies therein after compensated to my executors with the legacy duty payable thereon and upon trust in the most place that they my said trustees or the survivor of them his executors or advisors to and shall with all convenient speed after my decease lay out and invest in their or his names or name in the purchase of stock in some or one of the public companies or funds or at interest on Government or coal securities | to be altered and transposed by them or him from heir to heir fort other stocks funds or securities of the sound or the like nature as they or he shall think proper | such part of the said trust monies as by the interest or dividends thereof will then be sufficient to raise and produce a ---- community or yearly sum of one hundred pounds and do and shall pay the same yearly sum unto the said ---ary my wife for and during the --- of her natural life the same community to be paid and payable to her by half yearly payments with a proportionate part thereof up to the day of her ----nor the first payment to be made in six calendar months --- after my decease and to be accepted in --- --- and satisfaction of her dower and ------- and as to all the trust monies and promises aforesaid | subject only to the appropriation of a competent part thereof during the life of my said wife for providing for the payment of her said community | I will and declare that the same shall go to and be in trust for my four children | namely | the said Richard Stinton Cole my son William Cole and my two daughters Mary Cole and Caroline Cole equally to be divided between their share and share alike the respective shares therein of the said Richard Stinton Cole Mary Cole Caroline Cole to be paid assigned or transferred to them as soon as conveniently after my decease or as soon as the trusts of this my Will will allow and the share of the said William Cole to be paid assigned or transferred to him at his age of twenty one years and the interest thereof or a sufficient part thereof to be in the meantime applied in or towards his maintenance and support provided also and I hereby declare that it shall be lawful for my said trustees or trustee for the time being to advance any part not exceeding one --rity of the share of my said son William of and in the said trust monies for or towards his preferment and advancement or establishment in the world and I nominate and appoint the said John Raw and Richard Stinton Cole Executors of this my Will and do give to each of them the sum of thirty pounds as part of legacy duty as aforesaid for their care and trouble in the executorship and in the performance of the trusts hereby reposed in them respectively and I also appoint the said John Raw and Richard Stinton Cole Guardians of my said son William during his minority and I do hereby declare that the receipts in writing under the hands or hand of my said trustees or the survivor of them or the heirs executors or advisors of each survivor shall be a sufficient and effectual discharge to the respective purchasers of all and singular the ---bits and premises therein before devised ordered and directed to be sold for their respective purchase purchase monies or for so with thereof as in such receipts respectively shall be expressed or acknowledged to be received without any such purchasers being answerable or accountable for the application or misapplication or nonapplication of any such purchase monies or any part thereof or be in anywise obliged to see to the application of the same and I do hereby further declare my will and mind to be that my said trustees and executors or either of them their or either of their heirs executors advisors or assigns shall not be answerable the one of them for the other or others of them and by no means for involuntary losses and that it shall be lawful for them respectively by and out of the monies which shall come to their respective hands by virtue of this my will to deduct and reimburse themselves respectively all such losses costs charges damages and expenses as they respectively shall or may suffer expend or be put unto in or about the execution and performance of this my will or in relation thereto In witness whereof I have to the first three sheets of this my last Will and
