- Obituary, New York Herald (NY, NY), Friday, 1 January 1892:  George W. Whitaker, one of the oldest and best known lawyers of Suffolk county, and father of Deputy Attorney General E. G. Whitaker, died on Wednesday night at the residence of his son-in-law, Judge Thomas H. Bisgood, at Sag Harbor, L.I.  He was seventy-five years old.

Possibly this James Alcocok, but unlikely.  Seems to be a James Alcock of Longton.:

- Staffordshire Advertiser, Saturday, 5 February 1853:  To Publicans and Others.  To be let, the Sutherland Arms Inn, Furnace road, Longton - Apply to Mr. James Alcock, the present proprietor, who is declining the business in consequence of entering into other engagements.  Stock and fixtures to be taken at a fair valuation.  James Alcock, Auctioneer and Valuer, Auction Office, Union Town Hall, Longton.

- Staffordshire Advertiser, Saturday, 5 March 1853:  Mr. James Alcock, Joiner, Builder, Cabinet Maker, Furniture Broker, House and Estate Agent, Licensed Auctioneer and Appraiser, begs leave respectfully to inform the inhabitants of Cheadle, and the surrounding neighborhood, that he will open a branch office at Mr. Chas. Alcock's, Watt Place, Cheadle, on Friday, March 4th, 1853, where he will attend fortnightly, from ten o'clock in the morning until four in the afternoon, to receive orders from those ladies or gentlemen who may favour him with their commands.  All sale accounts settled with the greatest promptitude.  Parties leaving town or country, having goods to dispose of, may have money advanced on them until they are sold, by applying to Alcock and Bell, Auction Mart, Longton.  All communications to be addressed to James Alcock, Licensed Auctioneer and Appraiser; or to Mr. Charles Alcock, Butcher, Watt Place, Cheadle; which will be duly attended to.  Auction Offices - Union Town Hall, Longton; and Watt Place, Cheadle.  Alcock and Bell, Cabinet Makers and Furniture Brokers, Union Town Hall, Longton, beg to call the attention of the public to their immense stock of home-made furniture, and British and Foreign goods, of every class, which they have for sale, and respectfully solicit an early inspection of the same in their large show room, - open every day from nine o'clock in the morning until nine in the evening, - flattering themselves that the quality and price of their goods cannot fail to give every satisfaction.

- Staffordshire Sentinel and Commercial & General Advertiser, Saturday, 21 February 1863:  To be let, a Beerhouse, situate in Longton.  No stock or fixtures to be taken to. - Apply to Mr. James Alcock, Builder, Longton.

- Staffordshire Sentinel and Commercial & General Advertiser, Saturday, 12 October 1867:  The Bankruptcy Act, 1861.  In the County Court of Staffordshire, holden at Stoke-upon Trent and Longton, In the matter of George Trigg, of No. 11, Gower street, Longton, in the county of Stafford, carrying on business in partnership with James Alcock, at Vauxhall, Longton, as joiners and builders, under the style of "Alcock and Trigg," and previously journeyman joiner, adjudged bankrupt on the 31st day of July, 1867.  An order of discharge will be delivered to the bankrupt after the expiration of thirty days from this date, unless an appeal be duly entered against the judgment of the court, and notice thereof be given to the court.  Dated this 3rd day of October, 1867.  W. ** Correction:  I had concluded that James Alcock born c1827 (married to Charlotte Ann Brierly) was the son of James Alcock & Elizabeth Hancock.  I now believe this to be incorrect based on the following:

1) Marriage: St. Peter ad Vincula, Stoke upon Trent, Staffordshire Parish Register - 22 May 1823:  James Alcock, widower, res. Burslem, victualler, to Elizabeth Hancock spinster; wit: James Cartlidge; married by licence, bride made her mark

2) Staffordshire Advertiser, Parish of Wolstanton, Saturday, 24 May 1823:  Married - At Stoke, by the Rev. Mr. Vale, Mr. James Alcock, of the Black Lion Inn, Burslem, to Miss Hancock, of the Sea Lion Inn, Hanley.

3) Staffordshire Advertiser, Parish of Wolstanton, Saturday, 26 May 1827Black Lion Inn, Burslem, in the Staffordshire Potteries, To Be Let, (with immediate possession,) That valuable and well accustomed Public House, (now in full business) called the Black Lion Inn, in Burslem, lately occupied by Mr. James Alcock, deceased.  The above House (which has been recently erected) is large and commodious, and replete with every necessary convenience for carrying on the public business on an extensive scale.  The stock, furniture, fixtures, and brewing utensils, to be taken at a fair valuation.  For further particulars, refer to Mr. Samuel Alcock, Cobridge, in the Potteries.  All persons having any claims against the Estate of the said Mr. James Alcock, of Burslem, deceased, are requested to transmit the particulars of their accounts to the said Mr. Samuel Alcock, of Cobridge, in order that the same may be examined and discharged; and all persons who stand indebted to the said Estate, are requested to pay the amount of their respective accounts as above, immediately.
