Obituary:  American Press, Tuesday, 7 October 1958:  Final rites for Yves Pitre, 77, Fenton cattleman and farmer, were to be held at 3 p.m. today at the Fenton Catholic church.  Burial was to be in LeBleu cemetery with Hixson funeral home of Lake Charles in charge.  Mr. Pitre, a former member of both the Jefferson Davis parish police jury and school board, died at 2:40 p.m. Monday at the Kinder clinic.  He had suffered a heart attack.  He was a lifelong resident of Fenton, and served on the police jury from 1912 to 1932.  Mr. Pitre was also a member of the school board for 12 years.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rose Pitre; two sons, Claude of Fenton and Edmond of New Orleans; a daughter, Miss Aries Pitre of Fenton; a granddaughter; two brothers, Sherman and Sidney, both of Fenton; and two sisters, Mrs. Elmo Gilmore of Ville Platte and Mrs. W.E. Wilson of Fenton.  Pallbearers will be Hubert Smith, Harold Miller, Norman Miller, Lloyd Peloquin, Elpha Hebert and Lucien Vidrine.

- 19 September 1902:  ad for Livery Stables – Pitre Bros., Welsh, La., Keep good teams and Vehicles and solicit the patronage of the public.

- 2 August 1912:  Yve Pitre, one of the prominent Creole leaders of Ward Nine, and prospective candidate for Police

juror, was down to the Rally Saturday.  Mr. Pitre made a liberal contribution to the Welsh Campaign fund.  He says the people of his ward realize that they cannot afford to vote for Jennings for the parish seat.

- 5 February 1913:  Mr. Yves Pitre started breaking sod Thursday on his highland farm southwest Fenton.  Mr. Pitre expects to

make a test of several kinds of products on his highland farm this year which we feel is a good thing.  The country should furnish us with more such farmers.

- 4 April 1913: Echoes from Grosele:  Yves Pitre, Dave Marcantel and Alex Miller have gone to the field with their drills, discs and harrows, and are seeding every day.  Mr. F. L. Peloquin left for Fenton with his team Monday morning, where he will assist Ives Pitre in seeding.

- Yves Pitre, deputy assessor for Ward Nine of Jeff Davis Parish left Thursday for Topsy to assess north-west of the river.

- 9 May 1913:  Mr. Yves Pitre left for the Parish Seat Wednesday to attend the Parish Fathers’ meeting, and was accompanied by Octave Peloquin as far as Welsh.

- Yves Pitre is improving the looks of his dwelling near Fenton with a new coat of paint, with the old reliable John Smith at the brush.

- Yves Pitre is the owner of a fine mare, purchased Wednesday from Melenzo Marcantel of China.

- Sid and Yves Pitre are rounding up the stock ponies and were through our vicinity Saturday with a fine bunch of prairie ponies.

- 1 August 1913:  Yves Pitre.  Fair and Fertile Ward 9 is ably represented in the police jury by a native son of the parish, Mr. Yves Pitre.  Mr. Pitre was born in that portion of Calcasieu parish that now comprises Jefferson Davis parish, September 22, 1881 and has here lived all his useful, industrious years.  He received his education in the common schools of Calcasieu and supplemented this training by a business college course at Bowling Green, Ky.  Mr. Pitre is a practical and successful rice farmer and the owner of a rich and well cultivated 300 acre plantation where he and Mrs. Pitre, who was Miss Alice Miller, a comely maiden of the parish, have a cozy and handsome home and receive their many friends.  Mr. Pitre was unanimously elected a police juror in 1912 and has made a capable official, being favored by his fellows in that body by being appointed on a number of important committees, and generally recognized as a safe and conservative counselor.

- 9 January 1914:  Yves Pitre, Sidney Treme, of near Fenton, Henry Fontenot of Bell City, and F.A. Arceneaux of Welsh went to Jennings Tuesday on Police Jury business.

- 31 July 1914:  Mr. Yves Pitre and Mr. Oscar Miller of Fenton were in Welsh Saturday in the interest of the charbon meeting.  Mr. Pitre reports that according to all they could learn and from the appearance that the worst siege of charbon is about over, which we certainly hope to be true.  Heavy rains have fallen during the past week and the knock in the crosshead of the engine has ceased.  Practically all the rice in this section is flooded and is looking fine.

- Mr. Yves Pitre is bending some of his corn this week, which means corn ready for the grainery in about ten days.

- Now Mr. Cow Buyer if you want some good old fat cows and some fine sucking calves just call Messrs. A. V. Peloquin and Yves Pitre of Fenton.  They are ready for market.

- 15 June 1915:  Mr. Yves Pitre has planted about two acres of peanuts, should Mr. Pitre make a success there will probably be an increase in acres in peanuts in 1918.

- 23 July 1915:  Mr. Yves Pitre made a business trip to Jennings Tuesday in the interest of his ward (9), and motored from Welsh with one of the good roads boosters, Collen Ledger accompanied Mr. Pitre in order to have a days rest from farm duties and at the same time have a pleasure trip.

- 31 December 1915:  Yves Pitre has built a cottage on his new farm southwest of Fenton which is occupied by Joe Doise.  Mr. Pitre expects to make for himself a model highland farm of this eighty acre tract.

- Yves Pitre has sold his forty acre experiment farm near Fenton to E. Vidrine of Basile.  Mr. Vidrine will take possession as soon as Mr. Pitre can vacate the buildings.  We are glad to welcome Mr. Vidrine in our midst and wish him success in his farming operations.

- 28 June 1920:  Mr. Yves Pitre made a flying trip to Lake Charles on business Wednesday, returning the same day.

Obituary:  Lake Charles American Press (Lake Charles, LA), 11 May 1992:  Fenton - Funeral services for Mrs. Rose P. Pitre, 82, will be at 2:30 p.m. today, May 11, from St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.  The Rev. Al Volpe will officiate.  Burial will be in LeBleu Cemetery under direction of Hixson Funeral Home.  Visitation is in the church.  Mrs. Pitre died at 3:05 a.m. Sunday, May 10, 1992 in a Kinder hospital.  She owned/operated The Gables restaurant in Woodlawn until her retirement in 1972.  She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.  Survivors are one son, Claude Yaves Pitre of Medical Lake, Wash., one daughter, Ariese P. Landry of Fenton; three sisters, Palmyer Stewart and Ruth King, both of Iowa, and Lillian Griffith of Tacoma, Wash., and two grandchildren.

Edmond Joseph Pitre:  Times Picayune (New Orleans, LA), 6 June 1984:  Edmond J. (Pete) Pitre on Tuesday, June 5, 1984 at 12:30 p.m.  Age 80 years.  Beloved husband of Irene Daigle Pitre, father of Elizabeth Ann Frisard, grandfather of Mark Aycock, Lari Ann Aycock, Madlyn Frisard, brother of Claude Pitre and Arise Pitre, stepson of Rose Pitre.  A native of Fenton, Louisiana and a resident of New Orleans for the past 36 years.  Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Lakelawn Metairie Funeral Home Chapel, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Thursday, June 7, 1984 at 10:30 a.m.  Interment in Lakelawn Park Mausoleum.  Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Thursday after 8:30 a.m.  In lieu of flowers Masses preferred.

 

Ariese Edna Pitre:  Ariese Edna Pitre Landry passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2010, in a Houston Healthcare facility.  She was born in Fenton, Louisiana, on December 18, 1937 and is one of two children born to Yves and Rose (Peloquin) Pitre.  The Pitres, one of the first Acadian families to settle on the southwest prairies of Louisiana, are descendants of Jean Pitre and Marie Pesseley Pitre whose lineage dates back to 1664 in Port Royal, Canada.  She loved music all of her life, singing in the choir and playing the piano in her early years.  After graduating from Fenton High School, she attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana.  Ariese worked as a telephone operator in New Orleans and Lake Charles, as well as a secretary for the Director of Nursing at Saint Patrick's hospital in Lake Charles.  She enjoyed all sports, and in her younger years played a lot of tennis.  She was a wonderful cook who will be remembered for her pineapple up-side-down cake.  Ariese enjoyed people, watching soap operas ("her stories"), as well as family outings, especially during holidays or when they involved her granddaughter's sporting events.  Preceded in death by her parents and half-brother, Edmond Pitre, she is survived by her two daughters, Katherine Fuhrman and husband, Glenn, and Peggy Landry and fiancé, Scott Lambert; granddaughter, Magdalyn Yves Landry, all of Houston; and brother, Claude Pitre, and wife, Delia, of Spokane, Washington.  Visitation will be Monday, June 21, 2010 10:30 A.M. Crespo & Jirrels.  Services are Monday, June 21, 2010 11:30 A.M. Crespo & Jirrels.  Interment Monday, June 21, 2010 4:00 P.M. LeBleu Cemetery, Fenton, LA.
