William Thomas Peters:  William Thomas Peters, Jr., of East Bridgewater, died February 15, 2018 in Hanson, after a long illness.  He was 86 years old.  Bill was born in 1932, in Dorchester to William Thomas, Sr. and Catherine Peters, and was the oldest of seven children.  At the age of eight, Bill’s family moved to Whitman, where they resided on High Street for many years.  At age eighteen, Bill volunteered for military service and served twenty-four years in the U.S. Army.  He retired as a decorated Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4) in 1974.  During his years in the Army, Bill specialized in Intelligence and Communications, and served in Korea, Lebanon and Vietnam, where he was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for Valor during the Tet Offensive, and had been stationed in Germany, the Philippines and Japan.  Bill was most passionate and proud of his military and dedicated years of service.  He showcased his pride of Army brotherhood as he partook in countless Veterans parades and military ceremonies.  Upon retirement from the U.S. Army, he became a supervisor at the U.S. Post Office in Brockton.  He was a 1978 graduate of the University of New Hampshire.  Later in life, Bill volunteered as a reader for the “Talking Information Center” in Marshfield, a broadcast service for the sight impaired in New England.  Bill was an avid reader, lover of spy novels, crossword puzzles, travel, the New England Patriots, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and spending time with his family.  Bill was predeceased by his wife of forty-eight years, Muriel Jean (MacEachron) Peters.  He is survived by his daughter Jeanne Walker of Bowie, MD, sons Thomas Peters of Fort Myers, FL and Brewster, MA and Steven Peters of East Bridgewater, and their spouses David Walker, Ron Baird and Patricia Peters.  He is also survived by his grandchildren Nicole, Scott, Amanda, David, Ryan, Michael and Kyle, five great-grandchildren, his brother George of Detroit Lakes, MN, his sister Cathy Stevens of Braintree and many nieces and nephews.  His funeral service will be held Tuesday February 20 at 10:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte.58 at the rotary) Whitman.  His burial, with full Military Honors, will follow in the Central Cemetery, East Bridgewater. Visiting hours will be held Monday February 19 from 4:00-8:00 PM.

 

George Leslie Peters:  West-Kjos Funeral Home (MN), George Peters, April 17, 1934 - July 2, 2023, Detroit Lakes:  George L. Peters, age 89, of Savage, MN., formerly of Detroit Lakes, MN., died July 2, 2023, at Rivers of Life Assisted Living, in Savage, MN.  George Leslie Peters, was born on April 17, 1934, in Boston, MA., to William and Catherine Graham Peters.  George attended Whitman, MA public schools.  At a very young age, he enlisted in the United States Army.  Following basic training, he completed Airborne Training, and then Ranger School, and was then shipped overseas to Korea.  George was wounded in the Korean War, and evacuated to Japan.  He later served four tours in the Vietnam War, where he again was wounded several times.  George took great pride in that his twenty-four plus years of active Army service was all spent in the Infantry or Special Forces and Airborne units.  During the Vietnam War, George received a battlefield commission to Captain.  George held the honor of being one of the highest decorated veterans in Becker County.  After retiring from the Army as a Command Sergeant Major E-9 in 1976, George farmed in Motley, MN., and was employed by Rural MN CEP, where he was the Director of Operations.  George and Jan, moved to Detroit Lakes, in 1984.  He retired from Rural MN CEP, in 1994.  George was a very strong advocate for veterans and volunteered for many causes and activities in his community.  He was a board member of several different organizations and a longtime member of Emmanuel Community Advisory Board.  George advocated for and dearly loved Emmanuel Community and their dedicated staff.  George was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, El Zagel Shrine Temple, Detroit Lakes Shrine Color Guard, Mount Tabor Masonic Lodge, Chapter #31 Disabled Veterans, Lloyd Beck chapter #745 Military Order of the Purple Heart, D.L. Eagles, and was an instructor for the AARP driver safety program, for ten years.  George was a lifelong learner.  He pursued a wide variety of interests, including gardening, outdoor activities, hunting, and in his younger years, parachuting, and stock car driving.  He was always up to a dare and felt he had nine lives to live and wanted to live them all.  George was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Mickelberg Peters; one son, George L. Peters Jr.; three brothers; one sister, Mary Peters; and his parents.  He is survived by two daughters: Katherine Getchell, Donna Belter; one son, Timothy Peters; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.  Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at the West-Kjos Funeral Home, in Detroit Lakes, MN.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services.  Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.  Make a donation to National Multiple Sclerosis Society in memory of George Peters.  Interment Tuesday, July 11, 2023 Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.

 

Robert Francis Peters:  Rutland Daily Herald (Rutland, VT), Tuesday, 18 February 2014:  (photo) Robert F. Peters Sr., 6/22/1938 - 2/14/2014, Proctor - Robert was born to William and Catherine Peters in Dorchester, MA, and was one of nine children.  He died at home in Proctor, Vt., with family present.  He was predeceased by his brother, Ralph, and his sister, Mary.  He leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth; a daughter and three sons; Deborah of McConnellsburg, PA; Robert Jr. of Sandgate, VT; Scott of Johnson City, TX; and Jonathan of Nantucket, MA.  He also leaves behind 3 grandsons and 2 granddaughters: Orray, Wyatt, Grayson, Niamh and Eleanor.  Early in his life, he was a member of the Massachusetts National Guard.  He was also part of the CB Club in Rutland.  He was a fan of all the New England teams and watched the games when he could.  He loved fishing.  He was a truck driver who loved to drive and was very proud of his safe-driver merits.  He loved bird watching off his porch and collecting race cars and trucks.  Robert also enjoyed the Cape when he was able to be there with his wife.  He worked many places; as an ambulance driver in the '60s; dispatch for a police department; even working in Ruth Wakefield's original Toll House Inn.  He also worked for a few area trucking firms such as Vermont Wilson Ltd., Guy E. Wilson Co., and Rossi Trucking.  His most important job titles were father and husband.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 20, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Union Church of Proctor.  Officiating will be the Rev. Douglas Williamson, pastor.

Mary Alice Peters:  Weymouth News (MA), Wednesday, 30 January 2008:  Mary Alice (Peters) Graham, 67, died Jan. 23 in the Weymouth Health Care Center, after a period of failing health.  She had been employed at New England Merchants Bank, 1st County National Bank and the Norwell branch of the Shawmut Bank until 1985.  Most recently, she was employed at the South Shore Medical Center in Norwell.  She enjoyed crocheting, reading and also traveling to Ireland, Austria, England, Hawaii, and many other places.  She was born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late William T. and Catherine M. (Graham) Peters.  She moved to Whitman in 1941 and graduated from Whitman High School in 1958 where she took banking courses.  She leaves her brothers William T. Peters, Jr. of East Bridgewater, Robert F. Peters of VT, George L. Peters of MN, her sister Catherine A. Stevens of Braintree, many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and -nephews.  She was also the sister of the late Ralph W. Peters.  Funeral services were held in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St., Whitman.  Burial was in the High Street Cemetery, Whitman.  Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., Fairfax, VA or the American Heart Assoc., Framingham, MA.
