Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Friday, 11 July 1980:  Mr. Willie Pitre, Sr., father of Daily World advertising director Willie Pitre, died suddenly last night at 9:50 at Opelousas General Hospital.  He was 70.  Mr. Pitre's last rites will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell.  He was a lifelong resident of Lawtell.  Burial will be in the mausoleum in St. Bridget Cemetery under the direction of Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on the Old Sunset Highway.  A Rosary will be recited tonight at 8:30.  Survivors include his wife, the former Marie Manuel of Lawtell; a son, Willie Pitre, Jr., Lawtell; five daughters, Mrs. Winnie Mae Lee of Idor, Texas; Mrs. Joseph E. (Eula Mae) Faul of Lafayette, Mrs. Carlton (Ethel) Faul, Lawtell, Mrs. Doake (Mary) Meche, Arnaudville and Mrs. Pat (Anita) Soileau, Ville Platte; a sister, Mrs. Una Latiolais, Lawtell; two brothers, Idam Pitre, Lawtell and Cleve Pitre, Ville Platte and 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Friday, 3 August 2007:  Funeral services will be held Friday, August 3, 2007 at a 3:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bridget Catholic Church for Marie Pitre, age 92, the former Marie Manuel, who passed away Thursday, August 2, 2007 at 9:25 a.m. at Maison DeVille Nursing Home in Opelousas.  Interment will be in St. Bridget Cemetery.  The Rev. Daniel Picard, pastor of St. Bridget Catholic Church will officiate at the services.  Ms. Pitre was a native of Chatagnier and a resident of Lawtell for 62 years.  She was a parishioner of St. Bridget Catholic Church.  Survivors include her son, Willie P. Pitre Jr. and his wife Corrine of Eunice; Eula Mae Faul and her husband Joseph of Carencro, Ethel Faul her husband Carlton of Lawtell, and Mary Lou Meche of Arnaudville; two sisters Audrey Hebert of New Orleans, and Ivy Dupre of Opelousas; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and ten great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie P. Pitre Sr.; her parents, Archille Manuel and the former Leah Ardoin; two daughters, Winnie Mae Lee and Anita Kaye Soileau; one brother, Sidney Manuel; four sisters, Odette Fontenot, Anna Manuel, Ada Pitre, and Oda Guillory; and one grandson, Carl Mitchell Faul.  Pallbearers will be Michael Pitre, Dr. Robert Faul, Dr. Tim Faul, Mark Reiners, Trent Meche, and Paul Reiners.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Carlton Faul, Joseph E. Faul, and Willie Pitre Jr.  Melancon Funeral Home of Opelousas was in charge of arrangements.

Winnie Mae Pitre:  Beaumont Enterprise (Beaumont, TX), Sunday, 7 April 1996:  Vidor - A 61-year-old Vidor school bus driver died in a one-car accident on Interstate 10 near Farm Road 105 Saturday, Vidor Police Department authorities said.  Orange County Justice of the Peace Sherry Smith pronounced Winnie Lee dead at the scene, a Vidor Police Department dispatcher said.  Lee was driving a 1987 Chrysler, the dispatcher said.  The accident occurred shortly before noon Saturday, the dispatcher said, but authorities were not clear on the cause.

- The Orange Leader (Orange, TX), Sunday, 7 April 1996:  Vidor - The funeral for Winnie Mae Lee, 61, of Vidor will be at 10 a.m. in Tuesday in Memorial Chapel.  Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor.  She died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.  Visitation begins at 4 p.m. on Monday with a rosary at 7 p.m.  A native of Lawtell, La., she had been a bus driver for the Vidor school district.  She is survived by mother Marie Pitre of Lawtell; two sons, Terry Lee and Steve Lee, both of Vidor; three daughters, Diane Lee, Charmaine Knight and Bertha Roach, all of Vidor; brother Willie Pitre of Lawtell; three sisters, Ethel Faul and Eola Mae Faul, both of Lawtell, and Mare Meche of Arnauldville, La.; 11 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

Mary Lou Pitre:  Arnaudville - Funeral services will be held Monday, June 26, 2018 at an 11:00 a.m.  Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville for Mary L. Meche, age 77, the former Mary L. Pitre, who passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Pelican Pointe Health and Rehabilitation in Maurice.  Interment will be in St. Francis Regis Cemetery in Arnaudville.  Mrs. Meche was a native of Lawtell and a resident of Arnaudville for most of her life.  She loved baking for family and friends, especially around the holidays.  Survivors include three sons, Derek Meche and his wife, Ilene, of Milton, Craig Meche and his wife, Samantha, of Breaux Bridge and Trent Meche and his wife, Irán, of Milton; one daughter, Hope Bordelon and her husband, Greg, of Ponchatoula; eight grandchildren, Adelle Meche, Amie Meche Conception, Travis Meche, Kalyn Meche Ronzello, Haydn Bordelon, Jordan Meche, Shelby Meche and Alexandra Bordelon; one great grandchild, Annalise Ronzello; and two sisters, Eula Mae Faul and her husband, J.E., of Lafayette and Ethel Faul and her husband, Carlton, of Opelousas.  he was preceded in death by her loving husband, Doak Meche; her parents, Willie Pitre and the former, Marie Manuel, both natives of Lawtell; one step grandchild, Zachary Tucker; one brother, Willie Pitre, Jr.; and two sisters, Winnie May Lee and Anita Soileau.

 

Willie P. Pitre:  Teche News (St. Martinville, LA), Tuesday, 14 July 2015:  Lafayette - Willie Pitre Jr., 70, who served as chief operating officer of Louisiana State Newspapers and publisher of The Eunice News, died Friday, July 10, at his residence in Lafayette.  Pitre had a 41-year career in the newspaper industry before he retired in December 2006.  Pitre started his newspaper career at the Opelousas Daily World where he worked for 22 years.  Pitre was advertising manager at the Daily World when he left to join Louisiana State Newspapers in 1988.  B.I. Moody, chairman of the board of The Moody Company, parent company of Louisiana State Newspapers, said, "Willie Pitre was a dedicated newspaper executive who focused on serving his newspaper readers and advertisers by putting out the best possible newspapers in the communities they served.  My condolences to his family and to his fellow employees."  At the time of Pitre's retirement, Kevin Moody, president of The Eunice News' parent company, Louisiana State Newspapers, said, "Willie helped grow our newspaper division, as well as turn the Eunice plant into the production center for several of our publications."  Darrell Guillory, chief operating officer for Louisiana State Newspapers, said, "Willie dedicated his career to publishing newspapers. Even in his retirement he remained interested in the newspaper industry.  He was a good friend and we had a great working and personal relationship.  I will miss him.  My condolences to his wife Corrine and family."  Pitre, a native of Lawtell, enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.  Survivors include his wife, Corrine; and two children, Michael and Adele; and several grandchildren.  Corrine is a retired educator who taught at Eunice and Lawtell high schools.  A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, July 13, at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette.  Entombment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette, at a later date.

Anita Kaye Pitre:  The Ville Platte Gazette (Ville Platte, LA), Sunday, 10 December 1995:  Judice - Funeral services were held here on Thursday, Dec. 7 at St. Basil's Catholic Church for Mrs. Anita Pitre Soileau, 39, of Lafayette and native of Lawtell, who died on Tuesday, Dec. 5 in the Medical Center of the Southwest of Lafayette.  As she requested, her body will be donated to science.  A laboratory technologist at Our Lady of Lourdes and the Medical Center of the Southwest in Lafayette, Soileau is preceded in death by her father, Willie Pitre Sr.; and a nephew, Carl Faul.  Survivors include: her husband, Pat Soileau, originally of Ville Platte; two daughters, Helen and Elizabeth Soileau of Lafayette; one son, Stephan Soileau of Lafayette; her mother, Mrs. Marie Pitre of Lawtell; four sisters, Mrs. Winnie Lee of Vidor, Texas, Mrs. Mae Faul of Carencro, Mrs. Ethel Faul of Lawtell, Mrs. Mary Meche of Arnaudville; one brother, Willie Pitre Jr. of Eunice; and a host of nieces and nephews.
