Obituary:  Times Picayune (New Orleans, LA), Monday, 18 May 1987:  Pitre, Walter (Papa Pitre) Joseph Pitre, on Sunday, May 17, 1987 at 3:00 a.m., husband of Irene Matherne Pitre; father of Mrs. Leland Sally Crochet and Mrs. Mark Veronica Meeks, bouth of Houma, LA, and 3 foster children, Morris Pitre of Houma, Carmen Pullman, and Gina Pullman, both of South Carolina; brother of Jackin Pitre, Jr. of Galliano, LA and Mrs. Spirgin Vetras Broussard of Galliano; also survived by 4 grandchildren; preceded in death by his parents, Jackin and Henrietta Espong Pitre, and also 2 brothers, Andrew and Percy Pitre; age 68 years; a native of Golden Meadow, LA, and a resident of Houma, LA.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 18, 1987 at 1:00 p.m. at Maria Immaculata Catholic Church in Houma, LA.  Interment will be held at the St. Francis de Sales No. 2 Cemetery.  Visitation at the Chauvin Funeral Home on Monday, May 18, 1987 until funeral time.  Arrangements by the Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc., Houma, LA.

Obituary:  Lafourche Daily Comet (LA), Wednesday, 16 March 2011:  Irene Matherne Pitre, 82, a native of Bourg and a resident of Houma, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011.  Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church.  Religious service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.  She is survived by two daughters, Sally Pitre Crochet and husband, Leland Sr. of Houma, and Veronica Pitre of Houma; her foster son, Maurice P. Pitre; her foster daughter, Carmen Pullam Rushing; five grandchildren, Rebecca Crochet Dhuet and husband, Brent, of Houma, Christine Crochet Evans and husband, Mitchell, of Marietta, Ga., Leland Crochet Jr., Tiffany Meeks of Houma and Zachary Meeks of Houma; nine great-grandchildren, Traci Dhuet of Houma, Trisha Dhuet of Houma, Catherine Evans of Mariette, Ga., Thomas Evans of Marietta, Ga., Caroline Evans of Marietta, Ga., Leland Crochet III of Houma, Alexandra Crochet Tucker and husband, Jeremy Tucker, of Thibodaux, Haleigh Crochet of Thibodaux and Allie Crochet of Texas; four great-great-grandchildren, Mackenzie McElroy, Bronson Tucker, Nicolas Tucker and Veda Leigh Crochet.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Joseph Pitre; her parents, Lawrence Jean Matherne Sr. and Allie Dupre Matherne; her foster daughter, Gina Pullam; five brothers, Horace Matherne, Lawrence Matherne Jr., Lee Matherne Sr., Carol Matherne Augustine Matherne, and Houston Matherne; and one sister, Gertrude Matherne Porche.  She was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church.  Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
