Obituary: Houma Courier (LA), 1 April 2006: Wilbert James Pitre, 83, a native of Chauvin and longtime resident of Delcambre, died at 1:15 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2006, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. Visitation will be from noon until 10 p.m. Sunday with a rosary at 7 p.m., and from 8 a.m. until funeral time Monday at Evangeline Funeral Home in New Iberia. A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with the Rev. Herb Bennerfeild officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Mausoleum. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hilda Boudelouche Pitre of Delcambre; one son, Bryan Pitre Sr. and wife, Sandra, of Delcambre; one brother, LeRoy Pitre, of Lafayette; one daughter-in-law, Ruth Pitre, of Delcambre; five grandchildren, Mary LeBlanc and husband, Kerry, of New Iberia, Bryan Pitre Jr. and wife, Janet, Zachary Pitre and wife, Buffy, Stacie Pommier and husband, Carl, and Patrick Pitre, all of Delcambre; seven great-grandchildren, Len Monceaux and wife, Lena, Austin Sonnier, Trevor Pitre, Adam Pitre and Jayce Pitre, all of Delcambre, Misty LeBlanc of Broussard, and Cheramie Pitre of Dodson; three great-great-grandchildren, Kelsea Monceaux, Braie Monceaux and David Monceaux, all of Delcambre; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elie and Leona LeBouef Pitre; one son, David J. Pitre Sr.; one grandson, David J. Pitre Jr.; and one sister, Doris Malbrough. He was a respected boat builder in several parishes until he started his own business in Delcambre, Pitre Shipyard. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church where he was an usher and passed the collection. Pallbearers will be Bryan Pitre Jr., Carl Pommier, Zachary Pitre, Kerry LeBlanc, Len Monceaux, Patrick Pitre and Austin Sonnier. Honorary pallbearers will be Trevor Pitre, Adam Pitre and David Monceaux. Evangeline Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary: Abbeville Meridional (LA), Sunday, 4 March 2007: (photo) Funeral services will be conducted for Mrs. Wilbert Joseph Pitre, the former Hilda Boudelouche, age 85, at 2 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2007 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Fr. Herb Benner field officiating. Interment will follow at the church mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Sunday with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Monday until service time. A native of Houma and a long time resident of Delcambre, Mrs. Pitre passed away at 10:50 a.m. on Friday, March 2, 2007 at her residence surrounded by loved ones. Mrs. Pitre loved the outdoors. She always had her hands in the soil. She loved spending time with the family, especially cooking for them. She was a member of the Our Lady of the Lake St. Ann's Altar Society and a choir singer for many years. She is survived by her son, Bryan Pitre, Sr. and wife Sandra of Delcambre; daughter-in-law, Ruth Pitre of Delcambre; five grandchildren, Mary LeBlanc and husband Kerry of New Iberia, Bryan Pitre, Jr. and wife Janet, Zachary Pitre and wife Buffy, Stacie Pommier and husband Carl, and Patrick Pitre all of Delcambre; seven great-grandchildren, Lem Monceaux and wife Lena, Austin Sonnier, Trevor, Adam, and Jayce Pitre all of Delcambre, Misty LeBlanc of Broussard, and Cheramie Pitre of Dodson; three great-great-grandchildren, Kelsea, Braie, and David Monceaux, all of Delcambre; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Wilbert Joseph Pitre; son, David J. Pitre, Sr.; grandson, David J. Pitre, Jr.; parents, Clifford and Emma Mazerac Boudelouche; brothers, Elridge, Gilmore, and Hilton Boudelouche; and sister, Hellen Boudelouche. daughter, Mary P. LeBlanc and husband, Kerry, of New Iberia; one brother,
Bryan Pitre and wife,
Sandra, of Delcambre; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, David John Pitre Jr. He was
co-owner of Pitre Shipyard. He was also named Shrimp King in 2003 of the
Shrimp Festival in Delcambre.
