- 1931 Wickstead, Port Arthur-Thunder Bay, Ontario:  Howard Petrie 35 section man/railway, wife Veronica 34, Mary 11, Vincent 8, John 7, Vivian 2  (Hornepayne).

Wedding Anniversary:  North Bay Nugget (North Bay, ONT), Monday, 18 August 1969:  (photo of the couple)  A retired Canadian National Railway employee and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Petrie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, when they attended mass at 4:15 p.m. at Corpus Christi Church.  A reception for their friends and family followed in the parish hall.  Married by Rev. Wheatan at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Bathurst, N.B., 50 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Petrie have five children, who were present to mark the anniversary.  The family is composed of one son, Vincent, Hornepayne; four daughters: Mrs. Eric Roberts (Mary), Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.; Mrs. Fred Mills (Vivian), Sault Ste. Marie; Mrs. Steve Karnis (Theresa), Oakville and Mrs. Eldon Richard (Hilda), Port Credit and 20 grandchildren.  With the RCAF during the Second World War, a son, John died in 1953.  Residents of North Bay for the past nine years, the Petries came from Hornepayne, where Mr. Petrie was a bridgeman with the CNR for 40 years until his retirement in 1957 due to illness.  A fisherman of the type that can seem to catch a fish wherever he casts his line, Mr. Petrie thoroughly enjoys telling his fish stories to his 20 grandchildren.  In fact, the Petrie home, 2039 Nelson St., is a holiday home for members of the family, but those who can't manage to come to the Petries are frequently favored with a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Petrie, who thoroughly enjoy their family.  As Mrs. Petrie puts it: "If they don't get to us, we go to them."  A member of the Catholic Women's League for more than 40 years at Hornepayne, Mrs. Petrie has continued her interest in church work in North Bay.  Although she is not quite as active as she once was, she belongs to the Legion of Mary and the Three Devotions.  Her interests include knitting, sewing and reading as well as holiday visits from members of the family.  Unable to be present for the occasion, the bridesmaid of 50 years ago, Miss Marion Lavigne resides in Detroit, and the groomsman, Walter Furlotte lives at Bathurst, N.B.

Notes for Veronica Lavigne:
