Alaine C. Peters:  Ventura County Star (Ventura, CA), Sunday, 10 December 2017:  (photo) Alaine 'Peaches' Whelchel died peacefully on Dec. 2, 2017.  She is survived by her husband Herb Whelchel, daughter Marnie DeMandel and her husband Mark of Atlanta, GA, son Mark Whelchel and his wife Lynda and granddaughter Allyson of Cayucos, California, and her daughter Patty Orban and her husband Don and grandson Rob of Longmont, CO.  Alaine 'Peaches' Whelchel was born in Mount Clemens, Michigan to Urban and Margaret (Miller) Peters.  Alaine was the oldest girl in a family of 7 children.  Alaine helped with all the household chores while both parents supported the family through the Depression with a beauty parlor on the main floor of their home.  In the early 1940s, the family moved to Ventura, California.  At a dance, Alaine met the love of her life, Herb Whelchel.  They were married in August 1950, and via a motorcycle, honeymooned to Yosemite.  Alaine and Herb settled in Ojai, California, and raised 3 children; Marnie, Mark, and Patty.  The Whelchel family moved to Nashville and then Georgia in the late 1960s.  In Georgia, Alaine started a career in real estate.  In 1975, Herb and Alaine missed California and moved back to Ventura.  Alaine, the 'pretty peach from Georgia' became a very successful real estate agent and acquired the nickname Peaches.  During her career, Peaches found their dream home with a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean.  Herb and Peaches enjoyed many parties with family and friends out on the deck.  Herb and Peaches loved seeing their grandson Rob learn to surf and their granddaughter Allyson go to college nearby.  In April of 2016, their daughter Patty moved Peaches and Herb to Atria Independent/Assisted living in Longmont, Colorado.  They enjoyed going to plays, breakfast with their son-in-law Don, church at St. Francis, root beer floats, numerous visits from loving family, sitting in the sun with their dog Buddy, playing many Scrabble games with their daughter, and visiting with new friends.  Peaches' feistiness, sharp wit, advice, fun and laughter will be missed by all.  Most of all, she will be missed by her husband Herb of 67 years.  A service in Peaches honor will be held in Longmont, CO.  Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
