Obituary: Abilene Reporter News (Abilene, TX), Saturday, 11 December 1976: S. W. (Frenchie) Petre, 78, of 2449 Campus Court died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday at Hendrick Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dalton Fisher will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Ronnie Newton. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park. Born Feb. 10, 1898, in Raceland, La., he married May Clark May 11, 1921 in Dundee. They moved to Abilene from Wichita Falls in 1964. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. He was an independent oil operator. Survivors include his wife; a son, Noel Wilson Petre of Route 6; two grandchildren, Noel W. Petre Jr. and Jorgette Petre, both of Route 6; and three great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be made to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center or to the American Heart Assn.
