Obituary:  Courier & Freeman (Potsdam, NY), Tuesday, 30 Sep 1980:  Funeral services for Rutherford LaShomb, 72, of Rte. 3, Potsdam were held Monday, (Sept. 29, 1980) at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Potsdam, Rev. Euclid Marier of Holy Cross Church of Hopkinton and St. Michael's Church in Parishville officiating.  Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery.  Arrangements were with the Garner Funeral Home.  Mr. LaShomb was dead on arrival at Potsdam Hospital, Friday evening (Sept. 26, 1980) after apparently being stricken with a heart attack at home.  He had been ill for several months.  Mr. LaShomb is survived by his wife, Margaret; three sons, Eugene of Lubbock, Texas; Paul of Potsdam; Richard of Norwood; two daughters, Miss Shirley LaShomb of Potsdam; Mrs. Joyce Mitchell of Massena; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Maguire of Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. June Beneke of Long Island, Mrs. Bernetta Mitch, Walterborough, S.C.; Mrs. Catherine Fenlon of Silver Springs, Md.; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by one son, Rudy, in 1973; two brothers, Neil and Elwood; and one sister, Margaret Rose.  Mr. LaShomb was born on July 16, 1908, in Stockholm, the son of Minor and Ruby (Sampier) LaShomb.  He attended local schools and married Margaret E. Ellis in Hopkinton on April 30, 1931.  He worked as a machine shop operator for Potsdam Auto Parts until his retirement in 1973.  He was a member of St. Michael's Parish of Parishville, and the Potsdam, Norwood, and Parishville Senior Citizen's Clubs.

Obituary:  Massena Daily Courier Observer (NY), Saturday, 21 June 2003:  Potsdam - Graveside services for Margaret E. LaShomb, 90, Midtown Apts., Potsdam, will be held Thursday, at Holy Cross Cemetery in Hopkinton with a time to be announced.  There will be no calling hours or funeral services.  Arrangements are with the Garner Funeral Home, Potsdam.  Mrs. LaShomb died on Friday (June 20, 2003) at Canton-Potsdam Hospital where she had been admitted on Wednesday.  She is survived by three sons, Eugene and Bonnie LaShomb of Lubbock, Texas, Paul and Sandy LaShomb of Potsdam, and Richard and Janice LaShomb of Norwood; two daughters, Joyce Mitchell of Massena and her longtime companion, Leslie Avery of Cold Brook, N.H., and Shirley LaShomb of Potsdam; a sister, Georgie LaShomb of Potsdam; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great- grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband, Rutherford, who died on Sept. 26, 1980; a son, Rudy LaShomb and his wife, Melody; two brothers, Giddeon and Robert Ellis, and a sister, Ella Hayes.  Mrs. LaShomb was born on May 1, 1913 in Potsdam, the daughter of Ernest Ellis and Elizabeth Tupper.  She attended a one-room school house on the top of River Hill in Potsdam.  She was a homemaker.  On April 30, 1931, she married Rutherford LaShomb at the catholic church in Hopkinton by Rev. H. Wilcott.  The couple made their home on River Hill in Potsdam.  Mrs. LaShomb was a lifetime member of the Sandstone Senior Citizens Club, lifetime member of the Parishville Hilltoppers and a lifetime member of the West Stockholm Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.  Contributions can be made to the Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department.  //  Watertown Daily Times, Sunday, 22 June 2003 - CORRECTIONS- Because incorrect information was provided to the Times, Saturday's obituary for Margaret E. LaShomb, 90, Midtown Apartments, Potsdam, contained an incorrect birth date.  Mrs. LaShomb was born May 13, 1913.  A surviving daughter-in-law, Melody, was also mistakenly included among those who died before Mrs. LaShomb.

Joyce Lashomb:  Daily Courier Observer (Massena, NY), Friday, 21 November 2014:  Joyce H. Mitchell 83 of Laurel Terrace, Massena passed on November 17 at Plattsburgh Hospital.  She is survived by her long time companion Les Avery, her daughters Margaret (William) Bray, Nancy (Kevin) Goodison, grandson Peter Davis, great-grandchildren Alyssa Bray and Kyle Bray, brothers Richard (Janice) LaShomb, Gene (Bonnie) Lashomb, sisters-in-law Sandy Lashomb, Melody LaShomb, nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by parents Margaret & Rutherford, brothers Paul and Rudy Jr., sister Shirley, grandson William R. Bray Jr.  Joyce was cremated per her wishes and there will be no funeral or memorial services.  Donations can be made to the heart fund or Leukemia foundation.

 

Eugene Rutherford Lashomb:  Eugene (Gene) LaShomb, of Lubbock, died Thursday, March 3, 2016, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  A memorial services will be held at Sander’s Funeral Home, 1420 Main Street on March 7th at 1:00 pm with Pastor Robert Renteria from Church on the Rock officiating.  Interment with Masonic and military honors conducted by VFW Post 2466 following the memorial at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Sanders Funeral Home.  Gene was born, January 20th, 1933 in Parishville, New York, to Rudy and Margaret LaShomb.  Gene went to school in Potsdam, New York.  He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 – 1953 in the Korean War.  He served in the 18th Fighter Bomber Wing.  He met and married Bonnie Stogsdill in 1953 in Levelland, TX after being stationed at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, TX.  He owned and operated Gene’s Radiator and A/C, Inc. in Lubbock for 40 years.  He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2466 of Lubbock TX.  He was a member of McKenzie Masonic Lodge and the Eagles Lodge of Lubbock, TX.  He was a lifetime member of Am Vets of Parishville, NY.  He was a member of the 18th Fighter Wing Association.  After retiring, Gene volunteered for Habitat for Humanity.  His lifetime legacy was serving others.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rudy La Shomb, Jr., Paul LaShomb; sisters, Joyce Mitchell and Shirley LaShomb.  He is survived by his wife, Bonnie La Shomb; sons, Randy LaSham, Rickey (Lori) LaShomb, and daughter, Renea (Dawon) Samples all of Lubbock; brother, Richard LaShomb of Norwood, NY; 4 grandchildren, Chelsie Murfee of Canadian, Keila LaShomb of Hart, Michael LaShomb of Spring and Cody Breunig of Kyle; 5 great grandchildren, Adleigh and Ian Murfee, Channing, Parker and Molly Breunig.  The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jennifer Bedford who was Gene’s private caregiver.

 

Paul Joseph LashombMassena Daily Courier Observer (NY), Thursday, 30 September 2004:  Potsdam - Funeral services for Paul LaShomb, 68, of 1122 state Route 11B, Potsdam, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Garner Funeral Home, Potsdam.  Burial will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Hopkinton.  A reception will follow the funeral service at the American Legion in Potsdam.  Calling hours are Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.  Mr. LaShomb died Tuesday morning (Sept. 28, 2004) as a result of an automobile accident in the town of Colton.  He is survived by his wife, Sandra Lee LaShomb of Potsdam; two sons, Dale Paul of Potsdam and Troy Michael of LeMoore, Calif.; a daughter, Kimberly LaShomb of Potsdam; three grandchildren, Paul Joseph LaShomb of Potsdam and Diamond and Trisha Stone of Potsdam; two brothers, Richard LaShomb of Norwood and Eugene LaShomb of Lubbock, Texas; two sisters, Shirley LaShomb of Potsdam and Joyce Mitchell of Massena.  He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Rudy LaShomb.  Memorial contributions may be made to the West Stockholm Fire Department.

Shirley A. Lashomb:  North Country Now (Potsdam, NY), Saturday, 19 October 2013:  Massena – Funeral services for Shirley A. LaShomb, 73, will be held Monday (Oct. 21, 2013), 1:00 pm at the Knapp Station Community Church, with the Rev. Lee Sweeney presiding.  Shirley will be laid to rest beside her parents at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Hopkinton, NY.  Funeral arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.  Calling hours will be held at the Knapp Station Community Church Monday from 11am till the time of the funeral.  Shirley passed away Thursday (Oct. 17, 2013) at the St. Regis Nursing Home, where she had been in failing health.  She had been a resident at the nursing home since January 3, 2013.  Shirley A. LaShomb was born May 4, 1940 in Potsdam, the daughter of Rutherford & Margaret LaShomb.  She was educated locally in a rural school, in Potsdam.  At one time she worked at Kinney drugs and later ran a private day care center.  However she devoted her time as a single mom to her son and daughter.  Memories will be forever in the hearts of her children, Scott (Francine) LaShomb, and a daughter Sherrill Murray both of Massena.  Also surviving her is a sister Joyce Mitchell of Massena, and her brothers Eugene (Bonnie) LaShomb of Lubbock, Texas, Richard (Janice) LaShomb of Norwood, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  Besides her parents she is predeceased by two brothers Paul and Rudy, as well as a son-in-law Morris (Moe) Murray.  Family and friends always held a special place in the heart of Shirley.  She enjoyed relaxing doing craft work, whether it be Plastic Canvas, crocheting a blanket, or making patio lights, she found much enjoyment.  Memorial Contributions in Shirley's honor may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, Potsdam, NY.

 

Rudy James Lashomb:  Potsdam Courier and Freeman (NY), Wednesday, 23 May 1973:  Mr. Rudy J. LaShomb, 28, North Syracuse, a Potsdam native, died Tuesday, May 15, 1973 of an apparent heart attack.  Funeral services were held Friday, May 18, 9 a.m. at the Garner Funeral Home and at 9:30 at St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Msgr. William J. Argy officiating.  Mr. LaShomb is survived by his widow, Mrs. Melody LaShomb; three daughters, Michelle 6, Rachael 3, Tammy 1, and a son, Rudy Jr., four weeks; a daughter by a previous marriage, Robin LaShomb, Elbridge; his parents, Rutherford and Margaret Ellis LaShomb, River Hill, Hopkinton; three brothers, Eugene, Lubbock, Texas, Paul and Richard, both of Potsdam; two sisters, Miss Shirley LaShomb, Potsdam, and Mrs. Orra (Joyce) Mitchell, Massena.  Born Nov. 24, 1944 at Potsdam, he was educated in Potsdam schools and was graduated from Computer Training School at Carrier Corp. in Syracuse.  For the last six years he had been employed at the Carrier plant in Syracuse.  He married Melody Jarrell, Sept. 13, 1965 at Charleston, W. Va., and since that time had lived in Syracuse.
