Obituary: Massena Observer (NY), Thursday 9 December 1976: Funeral services for Robert LaShomb, 65, Tiernan Ridge Rd., Town, of Norfolk, who died at the home of a sister, Mrs. Robert Miller, Rochester, at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1976 will be held in St. Raymond's Church, Raymondville, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 1976. The Rev. Everett Denesha will officiate. Burial will follow in Visitation Cemetery, Norfolk. Calling hours will start at the Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews St., at 7p.m. Friday night and will continue until the time of the funeral. Mr. LaShomb was convalescing at the home of his sister. He had been receiving radium treatments for cancer at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, and had been released from the hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 1. Robert LaShomb was born in the Town of Lawrence, Sept. 6, 1911, a son of Michael and Phoebe LaShomb. He attended schools in Louisville and Massena and was employed at Alcoa for 10 years. He retired with a disability. He married Marie Derouchie in Sacred Heart Church in November, 1938. The couple has resided on the Tiernan Ridge Road for the past 30 years. Surviving, besides his wife, are four sons, Kenneth R. LaShomb, Winthrop Rd.; Dale, a member of the United States Air Force, now serving on Okinawa; Leo, Blue Earth, Minn.; Peter, Norfolk; two daughters, Mrs. George (Barbara) Markewich, Skaneateles; Mrs. Richard (Ann) Orton, Tiernan Ridge Rd.

services for Marie C. LaShomb, 87, of 547 Tiernan Ridge Road, Chase
Mills, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Raymond's Church in Raymondville
with the Rev. Everett Denesha presiding. Burial will be in Visitation
Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. Mrs. LaShomb died Sunday (July
11, 2004) at Massena Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for several
days. She is survived by four sons, Kenneth and Julia of Massena,
Dale of Victorville, Calif., Leo and Cheryl of Brooklyn Center,
Minn., Peter and Heidi of Chase Mills; two daughters, Barbara
Markewich of Port Byron, Mrs. Richard (Ann) Orton of Chase Mills; 16
grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Jane Mart of
Brasher; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband,
Robert in 1976; a daughter-in-law, Sirina LaShomb; four brothers,
Joseph Toucant, Medos, Alec and Wallace Derouchie; five sisters,
Rose Hartigan, Phoebe LaShomb, Emma Spencer, Leona LaBlanc, Elizabeth Raymo;
and several siblings in infancy. She was born June 19, 1917 in Fort
Covington, the daughter of Wallace J. and Celina (Brunet) Derouchie.
She attended local schools. She married Robert J. LaShomb on
Nov. 14, 1938 in Sacred Heart Church in Massena by the Rev. Gerald Kellogg.
The couple resided in the area and farmed for many years. She was a
homemaker who enjoyed gardening, bingo and was very devoted to her family.
he enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the St. Raymonds Church Altar and Rosary Society.

LaShomb, age 82, passed away on Thursday April 28, 2022 at Upstate Medical in Syracuse, NY after a brief illness. As per the family's wishes, there will be no public calling hours or funeral services. A graveside service with full Military Honors will be held in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Brasher Falls on Saturday June 11, at 11:00 A.M. Ken was born on September 2, 1939 in Potsdam, NY the son of Robert and Marie (Derouchie) LaShomb. After graduating from Norwood-Norfolk in 1957, Kenneth entered the U.S. Army from 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1964. Upon discharged he began working in New Hampshire for a few years and then went to work at ALCOA as an electrician and retired in 2000. He was first married to Helen McDonald in Massena and they had four children. The marriage ended in divorce. He later married Julia LaRue Shorette in April 1993, she predeceased him on July 31, 2021. Kenneth was a member of the Massena American Legion Post No. 79 and the Massena V.F.W Post No. 1143. Ken was also an avid musician, who could play several different instruments and throughout the North Country play in different BlueGrass and Country bands. He is survived by his children; Mark of Texas, Carol of Massena; Ronald of CA; and Kevin of Massena; his sister, Ann Orton of Chase Mills; two brothers, Dale LaShomb of CA; Peter LaShomb of Chase Mills, NY; many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Kenneth was predeceased by a brother, Leo A. LaShomb and a sister Barbara Markewich. The family of Kenneth LaShomb have entrusted arrangements to the care and expertise of the Phillips Memorial Home of Massena, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be acknowledged with the DAV Thomas Bushell Chapter 171, Massena, NY.

Barbara was born in Massena, NY on July 6, 1946, daughter of the late Robert Joseph LaShomb and Marie Clara (Derouchie) LaShomb. She lived in Skaneateles after her marriage and had two children, a daughter, Barbara Ann, and a son, George Markewich, Jr. She was employed for many years at Mercy Rehabilitation Center until her retirement. Later she moved to Port Byron. Barbara is survived by her son, George P. Markewich, Jr., and daughter, Barbara A. Falsey, son-in-law, Ronald J. Falsey, and granddaughter, Madelyn Elizabeth Markewich; siblings: Ann Orton, Peter LaShomb, of Norfolk, NY, Kenneth LaShomb, of Massena, NY, Dale LaShomb, of California, sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Leo LaShomb, of Michigan. Leo was a Sgt. in the Air Force, 3rd Mobile Communications Group. After serving, he moved with his wife and son to MN. He attended Mankato Vo-Tech for computer programming. He worked for Graco, Norwest Bank, and St. Paul Companies as a Database Analyst. He was best known for his sense of humor, love of his family and playing guitar. Preceded in death by parents, Robert and Marie. Survived by wife, Cheryl; son, Brian (Jen); daughters, Aimee (Michael) LaMere, Sara (Steve) Tharaldson; grandchildren, Nolan, Esm, Thomas, Anna, Grace and Harper; siblings, Ken, Barbara, Dale, Ann and Peter. Private service will be held.
