Notes for Pierre Pitre:

Pierre Pitre was the first child of his Acadian exile parents Francois Pitre & Marie Josephe Thibodeau, and was born in what was then Spanish territory though its Frenchness prevailed.  He was baptized at Opelousas on 28th April 1771 by a priest from Pointe Coupee who also recorded his birth as 13th December 1769.

By the time he married a French Creole named Marie Francoise Fontenot in 1790, his father had a cattle ranch of at least 130 cattle, and 35 horses on 12 arpents of land in Plaisance, a few miles northwest of Opelousas.  These Acadians were more used to raising livestock than the ones who settled along the river to farm.

Pierre's life was all too short and he died at the age of 25.  His 2-year-old daughter Adelaide had died about 10 weeks earlier.  His sons Pierre and Joseph married and both lived to about the age of 50.  His widow remarried twice, firstly to Pierre Nicolas Foret (aka Fauret) in 1795.  After his death in 1814, she married Jean Baptiste Jeansonne in 1817.  She died about 1823.
