- From the Notarial Records of St. Landry Parish: 15 December 1836 - Joseph Pierre Pitre sold, for $606 cash, to his son Augustin Pitre, a piece of land in St. Landry Parish "lying in the Prairie Ronde alias Prairie des Isles bounded on the west side by land of Pierre Jeansonne and on the east by the seller & on the south by Pierre Belair" containing 165 arpents  (marks of Joseph Pierre Pitre & Auguste Pierre Pitre)

- From the Notarial Records of St. Landry Parish: 15 December 1836 (acquittance release of mortgage): Augustin Pitre acknowledged he has received from his father and natural tutor Joseph Pierre Pitre the sum of $1131.87 which is his entire inheritance from his mother, his grandfather (Jean Joubert), his grandmother (Adelaide Ledoux), his great uncle (Villeneuve Ledoux), & his uncle (Jean Baptiste Ledoux).  This releases his father from any further obligation.
- Estate of Joseph Pierre Pitre:  On 7th March 1845, inventory done of the estate of Joseph Pierre Pitre, husband of Marguerite Elise Vige.  The estate is located in Prairie Ronde (about 10 miles from the Opelousas courthouse). Buyers to make payments at the residence of Auguste Pierre Pitre in Prairie Ronde. The sale totals $703.13. Signed by Marguerite Elise Vige, John Pitts, Auguste J. Pitre, Melasie Pitre, Marie Lodoiska Pitre, Joachin L. Pitre, Dalicourt Joubert, --- Fruge, Achille Dupre. Auguste J. Pitre appointed administrator.

 

Notes for Marguerite Elise Vige:

- 27 February 1845:  (part of a succession document) - 2nd A certain mulatto girl named Josephine sickly aged about thirty-eight years with her child Francois aged about four years. -3rd A certain mulatto boy named Julien aged about twenty-one years. -4th The calich and horses. - 5th All the household furniture & husbandry. - 6th One pair of work oxen 2 ploughs, one harrow and one ox cart, ---ow these for-- t-- conditions of the above as that at the death of the said Marguerite Lise Vige widow as aforesaid all the property which she will leave or the produce of the said property shall be divided among her children, Auguste Joseph Pitre being but her stepson shall take part and inherit as her proper child.  And in case the said Marguerite Lise Vige widow as aforesaid, should contract marriage, The aforesaid property shall be divided or the produce divided as aforesaid the said widow, drawing but her share which being but four hundred and fifty two dollars.  And this the said Joachim Louis Pitre with Marguerite Meliza Pitre his wife and by him duly authorised, Dalicourt Joubert with Marie Lodoisca Pitre his wife and by him duly authorised, Auguste Joseph Pitre, and the said widow agreeing to the compromise above stipulated.  They the said heirs subrogating the said widow to the above described property.  And she the said widow does and by these presents do release and subrogate the said heirs of the said Joseph Pierre Pitre, unto all her rights and titles on the remainder of the property belonging to the estate of the said Joseph Pierre Pitre, to be divided or sold among them as they chose proper to do.  And they the said heirs agree to divide the property among them in the following manner.  Auguste Joseph Pitre, is allotted to a certain mulato girl named Marguerite aged about eighteen years for six hundred dollars. ($600.00)  Dalicourt Joubert & wife are allotted to a certain mulato boy named Valcourt aged about thirteen years for five hundred dollars. ($500.00)  Joachim Louis Pitre and wife are allotted to a certain tract or parcel of land marked situated near Prairie Ronde in this parish and being as part or half of the plantation on which the said d--- s-- last resided, bounded on one side by lands of Laurent Dupre on another by lands of Francois Dupre on another by Cyprien Forest and on another by the other half of the plantation allotted to the widow and containing one hundred and fifty superficial arpents for three hundred and thirty seven dollars. (£337.00)  Also a certain mulato boy named Valcourt about eleven years old for four hundred and fifty dollars. ($450.00)  So it appears that the share of each is of six hundred and twenty nine dollars.  And that Joachim Louis Pitre & wife are indebted to the other heirs in the sum of one hundred and fifty eight dollars say one hundred and twenty nine dollars to Dalicourt Joubert and twenty nine to Auguste Joseph Pitre.  They the said heirs each to his right or accompanied by his wife and by him duly authorised does and by these presents do jointly subrogate each other unto all the rights and actions of warranty which they have or may have on the said slaves and land divided among them as above with this fully guaranteed against all troubles whatsoever.  Shall and will and forever defend each other against all claims coming from or under them or all other persons or persons whomsoever.  In faith thereof they have herewith signed and made their ordinary marks after reading the above in person or of the undersigned witness and before me the said Notary public this day and year first above written.  Witnesses Lastie Dupre, Francois Dupre, Marguerite Lise (her mark) Vige.
