Notes for Pierre Pitre:

Pierre Pitre was one of numerous great-grandchildren of Francois Pitre, the progenitor of the St. Landry branches of the Louisiana Pitres.  He was born in 1814 as the eldest of 5 boys and 3 girls.  Shortly after his 20th birthday he married Emelie Eugenie Ledoux.  He was listed in the 1840 St. Landry census with his wife, 2 small children, and a slave (probably a teenage boy).  By the 1850 census he was listed as a planter, with real estate worth $2000 and a family extending to 5 children.  By the 1860 census he now had property worth $4000, and a personal estate of $15,000.  His daughter Amelia has married Felix Veilland Chachere and son Nolle Pierre has married his 2nd cousin Estelle Pitre.  Nolle has a personal estate worth $300.  Daughter Elodie was still with the family but would marry Joseph Chachere (brother to Felix) a year later.  If son Leon and daughter Marie Louise survived past the 1850 census I have no record of them.

There are many Pitre families missing from the 1870 census, and Pierre and son Nolle are two I cannot locate.  Pierre's wife died in 1868, and he died in 1876 at the age of 61.  Both of his married daughters preceded him, Amelia in 1866 about 2 months shy of her 28th birthday and Elodie in 1873 at the age of 30.
