Obituary: Beaumont Journal (TX), Wednesday, 8 October 1969: Port Arthur - Funeral services for Don P. Pitre, 90, will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in St. James Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Clayton-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Pitre, a 55 year resident of Port Arthur, died Tuesday at 9:45 p.m. in his home at 3707 Seventh after a long illness. He was a retired restaurant operator and was a former city councilman. Pitre was born in Baldwin, La. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Irma Pitre of Port Arthur; a daughter, Mrs. E.T. Goodwin of Port Arthur; two sisters, Mrs. Amy LeBleu of Port Arthur and Mrs. Alice Provost of Jeanerette, La.; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Obituary: Beaumont Journal (TX), Thursday, 12 May 1977: Port Arthur - Funeral for Irma Dumesnil Pitre, 91, of 3705 Seventh St., will be at 2 p.m. Friday at a location to be announced. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Grammier-Oberle 39th Street Funeral Home. She was dead on arrival at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Hospital.

Roy Paul Pitre: Beaumont Journal (TX), Monday, 26 September 1960: Port Arthur - Funeral rites will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. James Catholic Church for Dr. Roy Pitre, 50, of 3720 Seventh, health officer for South Jefferson County. Dr. Pitre died early Sunday in St. Mary's Hospital here after a 16 month illness. Burial was to be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. A Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Nunnelly-Stanley Funeral Home chapel. Dr. Pitre, who had been health officer since 1947, had lived in Port Arthur 45 years. A native of Baldwin, La., Dr. Pitre received his BS degree from St. Edwards Clinic at Austin in 1932, and graduated in 1937 from Texas Medical College at Galveston. Following internship at a Dayton, Ohio hospital, Dr. Pitre practiced medicine here. Entering military service in 1941, Dr. Pitre returned to Port Arthur in 1946. Surviving are his wife; sons, Jim and John of Port Arthur, sister, Mrs. Ruby Goodwin of Nederland; parents; Mr. and Mrs. D.P. Pitre of Port Arthur, and grandmother, Mrs. T. Dumesnil of Houston.

Ruby M. Pitre: Ruby Pitre, of Beaumont, passed away Tuesday at Calder Woods in Beaumont. Moving to Port Arthur as a young girl, she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, and continued her education at Port Arthur College. During her school days, she worked the retail sales counter of her Dad's ice cream business, "The Alaskan" on the corner of Ninth Avenue and Seventh Street in Port Arthur. With her first husband, E. T. Goodwin, she was the owner and operator of the Ninth Avenue Gulf Service Station in Port Arthur, and Goodwin's Fabrics on Boston Avenue in Nederland. Later she became the Secretary to the Executive Director of the Port Arthur Housing Authority where she worked until she retired in 1972. While she had many occupations throughout her years, her most important and lasting one was that of Mother. She was the caretaker of the home front, nurse of scrapes and bruises, arbitrator of sibling differences, designer and seamstress of her daughters' cheerleader and Red Hussar uniforms, Senior Ball gowns, and roller skating outfits, re-stitcher of baseball uniforms, kitchen manager and chief chef for a family of seven. Her children's activities became her own as she participated in the grade school Parents Teacher Association, sold snow cones and popcorn at the concession stand of the Little League and Babe Ruth baseball leagues, and cheered on the various teams of the Thomas Jefferson Yellow Jackets and Nederland Bulldogs. An accomplished amateur golfer, she was a member of the Port Arthur Country Club, and once played a pro-am golf match against the famed Babe Zaharias. Later she joined the Wildwood Ladies Golf Association, the Wildwood Civic Club, and the Wildwood Home and Garden Club. She loved to play cards, and would host her very good friends for weekly bridge parties. She was a parishioner of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Beaumont. In the past, she belonged to the Wildwood Baptist Church, where for many years she was in charge of serving coffee to all those in attendance. She was a charter member of Wesley Methodist Church in Nederland. Also during various times, she belonged to The Methodist Temple and St. James Catholic Church both in Port Arthur. Survivors include her husband James W. Finney, MD; her daughter, Carol Goodwin Callaway, son, Don Goodwin and his wife Charlotte, son, Roy Goodwin and his wife Cheren; son, Mike Goodwin and his wife Lindy; and daughter, Jan LaPoint and her husband Scott. Her grandchildren include Karen Thompson, PhD, M. Ross Thompson, Dana Lynne Thompson, Paul Goodwin, Erik Goodwin, DDS, April Johnson, Jason Goodwin, Chris Goodwin, Mark Goodwin, Wayne Brown III, and Caroline Janowiak along with sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irma Marie (Dumesnil) and Don Paul Pitre; brother, Roy Paul Pitre, MD; and her first husband and the father of her five children, E. Thurston Goodwin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2009, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church with interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves under the direction of Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont
