Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Friday, 30 September 1955:  Ville Platte - Oscar Pitre, 69, prominent cotton farmer of this area, died at his home here at 2 a.m. today.  Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday.  Msgr. J.M. Bourgeois will officiate at the last rites Saturday at a mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.  Pitre is survived by his wife, the former Louise Dardeau; five sons, Hosea, Howard, Leroy, Lionel and Burke; six daughters, Mrs. Lee Tate, Mrs. Jesse Soileau, Mrs. Gordon Dardeau, Mrs. Vincent Perron, Mrs. Bernard Fontenot and Mrs. Wilma Israel; one sister, Mrs. Jules Foret, all of Ville Platte and 20 grandchildren.  Ardoin Funeral Home of Ville Platte is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph 'Hosea' Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 30 December 1993:  Ville Platte - Funeral services for Mr. Hosea Pitre, 85, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church here with burial in Gates of Heaven Cemetery.  Mr. Pitre, a resident of Ville Platte, died at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, in Ville Platte Medical Center.  He was a retired city employee.  Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Leonie Fontenot Pitre of Ville Platte; a son, Kenneth Joseph Pitre of Ville Platte; a daughter, Rebecca Pompa of Long Beach, Calif.; three brothers, Leroy and Lionel Pitre, both of Lafayette, and Burke Pitre of Ville Platte; five sisters, Vivian Soileau, Hazel Dardeau and Marie Perron, all of Ville Platte, Ellen Jane Fontenot of Lafayette and Joyclyn Isreal of New Orleans; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.  Visiting hours are from noon to 10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Friday until time of services.  A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.  Ardoin's Funeral Home of Ville Platte is in charge of arrangements.

 

Thelma Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), 31 July 1988:  Ville Platte - Funeral services for Mrs. Lee Tate Sr., the former Thelma Pitre, 74, were to be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church here with burial in Mrs. B.J. Fontenot Cemetery.  Mrs. Tate, a resident of Ville Platte, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Humana Hospital, of Ville Platte from a long illness.  Survivors include her husband, Lee Tate Sr. of Ville Platte; a son, Lee Tate Jr. of Lafayette; four brothers, Lionel Pitre and Leroy Pitre, both of Lafayette, and Burke and Hosea Pitre, both of Ville Platte; five sisters, Mrs. Vivian Soileau, Mrs. Hazel Dardeau and Mrs. Marie Perron, all of Ville Platte, Mrs. Joy Isreal of New Orleans, and Mrs. Ellen Jane Fontenot of Lafayette; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.  Ardoin's Funeral Home of Ville Platte was in charge of all arrangements.

 

Vivian Pitre:  The Ville Platte Gazette (Ville Platte, LA), Thursday, 12 September 2002:  Memorial services will be held for Vivian Pitre Soileau, 87, of Ville Platte at Heritage Manor Nursing Home at 10 a.m., Friday, September 13.  Ms. Soileau donated her body to science.  Father Sibley will officiate.  A retired nurse's aide, Ms. Soileau died Thursday, September 5, 2002, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home.  Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Sylvia Richard and her husband, Robert, of Madison, Mississippi, Bobby Soileau of Opelousas and his wife, Betty, and Dean Soileau and his wife, Shirley, of Ville Platte; three brothers, Lionel and Leroy Pitre, both of Lafayette, and Burke Pitre of Ville Platte; three sisters, Mrs. Bernard (June) Fontenot of Lafayette, Mrs. Gordon (Hazel) Dardeau of Ville Platte and Mrs. Joycelyn Isreal of New Orleans; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Louisa Dardeau Pitre; two brothers, Howard and Hosea Pitre; and two sisters, Thelma Tate and Marie Perron.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heritage Manor Activity Center or the charity of your choice.

 

Howard Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 5 January 1986:  Ville Platte - Funeral services will be held for Mr. Howard Pitre, 57, of Ville Platte, at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sacred Heart Church with burial in the church cemetery.  Mr. Pitre, a retired oilfield worker and WWII veteran, died 9 a.m. Saturday at Humana Hospital after a short illness.  Survivors include his wife, the former Nita Fusilier of Ville Platte; three sons, Kern Pitre of Plaisance, Freddie Pitre and Jimmy Pitre, both of Ville Platte; four brothers, Lionel Pitre and Leroy Pitre, both of Lafayette, Hosea Pitre and Bert Pitre, both of Ville Platte; six sisters, Mrs. Thelma Tate, Mrs. Hazel P. Pitre, 84, will (be) held today at 1:30 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church here with burial in the church cemetery.  Pitre, a retired member of the merchant marine, died Tuesday, Oct. &, 2003, at 3 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center following a long illness.  Ardoin's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Lionel Pitre:  The Daily Advertiser (Lafayette, LA), Friday, 11 February 2011:  (photo) Lafayette - A Memorial Mass for Lionel Pitre, age 87, will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick's Catholic Church.  The Reverend Father M. Keith LaBove, Pastor of St. Patrick Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant.  A native of Ville Platte, Mr. Pitre was a resident of Lafayette for over 40 years.  He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Ville Platte.  Mr. Pitre was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Northern France and Central Europe during WWII.  Mr. Pitre was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him.  He was the co-owner, managing partner of Travelodge in the Oil Center for over 40 years.  He enjoyed cooking, gardening and was an avid sports fan and horse enthusiast.  Mr. Pitre is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cecile Guillory Pitre; five children, Mark Pitre and his wife, Anne of Lafayette, Brett Pitre of Lafayette, Dwayne Pitre and his wife, Jeanette and Jennifer Woodruff and her husband, Lento of Lafayette; Nine grandchildren, Josh, Zach and Anne-Elyse Pitre, Courtney, Christina and Katherine Pitre, Jamila Pitre, and Mia and Lily Woodruff; three sisters, Hazel Dardeau of Opelousas, Jane Fontenot of Youngsville and Joy Baracca of New Orleans; and one brother, Burke Pitre of Ville Platte.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Louise Dardeau Pitre; three brothers, Hosea, Howard and Leroy Pitre; and three sisters, Thelma Tate, Vivian Soileau and Marie Perron.  The Pitre family wishes to acknowledge with deepest appreciation, Dr. Michael Cain and Dr. Jason Breaux, LGMC 8th floor Oncology nurses and staff, Hospice of Acadiana and James and Judy Dore.

Romero will conduct the services.  Mrs. Perron, a resident of Ville Platte, died Monday, March 20, 2000, in Ville Platte Medical Center.  Survivors include: three sons, Vincent David Perron of Pass Christian, Miss., Gerard Perron of Opelousas and Donnie Perron of Port Barre; a daughter, Deborah Perron Aswell of Ville Platte; three brothers, Leroy Pitre and Lionell Pitre, both of Lafayette, and Oscar Burke Pitre of Ville Platte; four sisters, Vivian Soileau and Mrs. Gordon (Hazel Pitre) Dardeau, both of Ville Platte, Mrs. Bernard (Jane Pitre) Fontenot of Youngsville and Joy Pitre Israel of New Orleans; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Perron was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Perron; two brothers, Howard Pitre and Hosea Pitre; and a sister, Thelma P. Ellen 'Jane' Pitre:  The Daily Advertiser (Lafayette, LA), Sunday, 19 March 2017:  (photo) Youngsville, Louisiana - Ellen "Jane" Pitre Fontenot, age 86, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on the morning of March 2, 2017 at her home in Youngsville, Louisiana, surrounded by family.  She will be remembered for her love of family, optimism, humor, and generosity toward others.  Jane was born on August 13, 1930 in Ville Platte, Louisiana, and graduated from Sacred Heart High School where she was very active in sports.  After a 4-month courtship, Jane married Bernard Fontenot on April 3, 1948 and was happily married for one month short of 69 years.  While raising a family, she worked as a medical assistant for Dr. Robert Fontenot followed by a 15-year career as an office manager at Texas Iron Works (TIW) in Houston, Texas and Lafayette, Louisiana.  Jane was most happy when visiting with friends, family, and being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Jane enjoyed travelling, experiencing nature, entertaining, and especially playing golf with her husband, sons, and friends.  She was an amazing cook and "her" kitchen is where family gathered for stories, laughter and sneaking tastes of what was cooking in the Magnalite pot.  She had been very active in the ladies' golf associations as a member of Oakbourne Country Club, Le Triomphe Country Club and Acadian Hills Country Club, winning many tournaments and acquiring quite the crystal collection.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Marie (Dardeau) Pitre, daughter Laura Jane (Fontenot) Sargent, four brothers, Hosea, Howard, Leroy and Lionel Pitre and three sisters, Thelma Pitre Tate, Vivian Pitre Soileau and Marie Pitre Perron.  Jane is survived by her husband, Bernard, sons Billy Fontenot and wife Dianne of Beaumont, TX, Charlie Fontenot and wife Ginny of Pasadena, TX, Ronny Fontenot and wife Robbie of Bridge City, TX and daughter Sandy Fontenot Mikolajczyk and husband Mike of Fort Worth, TX, and son-in-law Tim Sargent and wife Sandy of Georgetown, TX, 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and one on the way, sisters Joy Barecca and husband Joe of New Orleans, LA, Hazel Dardeau of Gonzales, LA, brother Burke Pitre and wife Barbara of Ville Platte, LA and numerous nieces and nephews.  A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017 at St. Anne Catholic Church, Youngsville, LA with a reception to follow at the church.  The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice of Acadiana and all the doctors and nurses involved in her care for the help and compassion shown to her and our family.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jane's name to Hospice of Acadiana.
