Joseph Albert Adrien Lepitre:  The Montreal Star (QUE), Tuesday, 27 August 1946:  Port Arthur, Aug. 27 - Adrien Lapitre, a prisoner under escort from Winnipeg to Kirkland Lake, Ont., died of injuries in Nakina hospital last night after he leaped through a train window in an attempt to escape.  Lapitre, arrested in Winnipeg last week on charges of breaking and entering in Ontario, was said to have been placed in an upper berth, handcuffed and with his legs in irons.  Some time during the night he filed through both cuffs and irons and, police said, used them to beat off a Kirkland Lake police officer guarding him.  He jumped from the train near Willet, about 80 miles west of Nakina.  The train was stopped and he was found lying badly injured beside the track.

- The Winnipeg Tribune (ONT), Tuesday, 27 August 1946:  Adrian Lepitre, alias O'Shea, listed in eastern Canada as a dangerous criminal and infamous safe cracker, plunged to his death near Armstrong, Ont., Monday night while attempting to escape from police who were guarding him in the drawing room of a C.N.R. train bound for North Bay.  Inspector J. W. Young, C.N.R. police, said Lepitre knocked out his escort and then made his daring leap through the window of the speeding train.  When Lepitre left the city Sunday night under escort to stand trial at Kirkland Lake, he was wearing leg irons.  It was not known whether these had been removed on the train.  Lepitre was caught in a William ave. rooming house here last week by city police and R.C.M.P.  He left the city Sunday night in the custody of a sergeant from the Kirkland Lake police and a constable of the railway force to answer charges in Ontario.  Known from his record as a tricky customer, Lepitre jumped from a window of the Montreal train, Section No. 2.  He suffered severe injury to his legs and multiple lacerations to the body when he hit the ground.  He died in Nakina hospital.  Detective Inspector David Nicholson said today that Lepitre's actions in Winnipeg indicated that he was getting ready to operate here.  At the time of his capture, two hacksaw blades were found in the waistband of his trousers and city police took possession of extensive plans he had drawn for an ingenious safe cracking device.  Later it was discovered that Lepitre had succeeded in having a model assembled from parts made in six different city machine shops.  When police took possession of the device, described by Inspector Nicholson as "one of the best of its kind I've ever seen," he protested violently that it had cost him $1,300.  He also threatened the police with suit for violating his patent rights on the machine which, he claimed, was not intended as a burglary tool.
