Obituary:  Malone Farmer (NY), Wednesday, 26 September 1923: Owls Head: Sudden Death of Nelson Peete: Sept. 24 - This community was shocked to learn of the death of Nelson Peete Friday afternoon.  Mr. Peete was going for his horses in the pasture and was afterwards found dead, the result of heart disease.  He was a highly respected neighbor and a kind and loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by all.  He was a member of St. Joseph’s church of this place.  Mr. Peete was born in Hopkinton but had resided here many years, where he had followed farming.  He had been employed the past summer as section foreman on the Oval Wood Dish Co.’s railroad at Tupper Lake but came home recently to dig his potatoes.  He is survived by his wife and two sons, Theodore and Frank, of Lake Clear; three daughters, Mrs. Genevieve Raymond, of Saranac Lake, Mrs. Effie Minnie of Lake Clear and Miss Florence Peets, of Saranac Lake; three brothers, William and Henry of Hopkinton, Edward, of Potsdam, and one sister, Mrs. Melinda Currier, of Hopkinton.  The funeral services were held at Chasm Falls at St. Helen’s church Sunday at ten o’clock.

Misc.:  Malone Evening Telegram (NY), Friday, 19 May 1922:  Frank E. Peete, Napoleon Minney and Ulysses Reyome are in custody in the county jail today, charged with breaking into summer camps at Paul Smiths and vicinity.  The three men named have already been held for the action of the Franklin county grand jury.  Stanley Rowe, said to be a resident of Owls Head, is also in custody, but is not under any charge, being held as a material witness.  The three men held for the grand jury were brought to Malone today. This afternoon State Troopers were provided with search warrants and have gone to Paul Smiths in further work on the case in finding and identifying property stolen from camps.  It is believed that other arrests will follow in connection with future developments and proceedings.

- Obituary:  Malone Evening Telegram (NY), Tuesday, 1 July 1941:  Mrs. Delia Peete, 74, died at her home in Lake Clear Jct., at 2 a.m. Sunday.  She had been in failing health for a year and had been critically ill for the past month.  Mrs. Peete, a daughter of the late Alec Benware and Delia Ashlaw, was born in Owls Head.  She married the late Nelson Peete in 1886.  Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Florence Brown, Mrs. Nap. Minney and Mrs. Ullysses Reyome, and two sons, Theodore and Frank, all of Clear Lake.  She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Delphine King, of Chasm Falls, Mrs. David Cousineau, of Savannah and Mrs. Phelina Benware of Owls Head, two brothers, Eugene Benware of Owls Head; and Jerry Benware, of Florence, Mass., and 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Funeral services were held at St. John's of the Wilderness Church and the Rev. Edgar Gallaghar officiated.  Burial was at St. Helen's Cemetery at Chasm Falls.

Obituaries for the children:

Theodore Peete:  Adirondack Daily Enterprise (Saranac Lake, NY), Friday, 12 January 1990:  Lake Clear - Theodore Peete, 99, died Thursday morning, Jan. 11, 1990, at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake.  He was born in Owls Head on Sept, 8, 1890, the son of Nelson and Delia Peete.  He had lived in Lake Clear since 1907.  Mr. Peete married Gertrude Lyons on April 19, 1924.  She died March 30, 1986.  He worked as a caretaker at the Lake Clear Inn for 20 years and as a caretaker at the Weld Camp for 50 years.  He was a member of the Elks Lodge 1508.  Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Hazel McCullough of Saranac Lake; one granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.  There will be no calling hours.  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Fortune Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Moody, pastor of St. John’s Church in Lake Clear, officiating.  Interment will be in the Brighton Cemetery in May.

Frank Edward Peete:  Adirondack Daily Enterprise (NY), Tuesday, 29 July 1958:  Frank Edward Peete passed away Sunday evening at 8 o'clock at Sunmount VA Hospital, where he had been a patient for four months.  He was born on Feb. 12, 1893, in Owl's Head, son of Nelson and Delia Benware Peete.  He was a veteran of World War I, having served overseas with the 311th Infantry.  He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Florence Brown, Mrs. Genevieve Reyome and Mrs. Effie Minney and a brother, Theodore, all of Lake Clear.  The body is reposing at the Fortune Funeral Home where there will be a Rosary service this evening at 8 o'clock.  There will be a VFW service at 8:15.  A Mass will be offered tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock at St. John's-in-the-Wilderness, Lake Clear, with the Rev. Joseph Dowd officiating.  Interment service will be at St. Helens' Cemetery in Chasm Falls.  Father Peter Ward will officiate.

 

Effie Delphine Peete:  Adirondack Enterprise (NY), Friday, 6 January 1967: Mrs. Effie Minney, 70, a resident of Lake Clear for 50 years, died at 6 a.m. Thursday at Saranac Lake General Hospital after a long illness.  She was born March 19, 1896, in Owls Head, a daughter of Nelson and Delia Benware Peete, and was the widow of Napoleon J. Minney.  She had been a cook and a nursing companion.  Survivors are two sons, Earl and Gordon of Tonawanda; two daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Cleo) Vogt of Tonawanda and Mrs. Benjamin (Geraldine) Goff of Lake Clear; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Florence Brown and a brother, Theodore Peete of Lake Clear.  The Rosary will be said at 8:30 this evening at the Fortune Funeral Home.  A Requiem Mass will be offered at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. John in the Wilderness Church at Lake Clear by the Rev. Paul LaRocque.  Interment will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery in May.
 

Florence Peete:  Adirondack Daily Enterprise (NY), Tuesday, 7 October 1975: Lake Clear:  Florence Brown, 76, a resident of Lake Clear for 50 years, died early today at Saranac Lake General Hospital.  Mrs Brown was born in Owls Head, Nelson and Delia Benware Peete.  Her husband, Wilbur, died in 1944.  Surviving are: a son, Howard of Morrisville; a daughter, Pauline Fletcher of Lake Clear; a brother, Theodore Peete of Lake Clear, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Friends may call at the Fortune Funeral Home after 7 o'clock this evening and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday.  A Bible Vigil will be held at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.  A Mass of the Resurrection has been scheduled tentatively for 9 a.m., Thursday at St. John's Church in Lake Clear.  Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Genevieve Peete:  Adirondack Daily (NY), Saranac Lake, Friday, 29 July 1960:  Mrs. Genevieve Reyome of Lake Clear Junction died at 5 o'clock last night at the Saranac Lake General Hospital where she had been a patient since July 17.  She was born March 11, 1902 at Owl's Head, the daughter of Nelson and Delia Benware Peete.  She was the widow of Ulysses Reyome and is survived by a son, Edward of Pyramid Camp, Tupper Lake and a daughter, Mrs. Jean Marten of Charleston, S.C.  She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Effie Minnie, Mrs. Florence Brown and a brother, Theodore, all of Lake Clear and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  There will be a rosary service this evening at 8 o'clock at the Fortune Funeral Home.  A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. John's-In-The-Wilderness Catholic Church in Lake Clear with Father James Dowd officiating.  Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Bloomingdale.
