Census:

- 1910 Clare, Clare, Michigan:  Widower Charles Johnson 44 laborer/heading mill, widowed daughter Pearl Peters 23, Mina Johnson 12, Rolland Johnson 6.

Misc.:  Bay City Times (Bay City, MI), Friday, 2 November 1906:  Court News - Laura Peters was granted a divorce by Judge Collins in the circuit court from Nelson Peters for extreme cruelty.  The couple was married in 1902 and according to the testimony their troubles began from the very start.  Peters had no home to take his wife to and they went to the home of her mother, Mrs. Caroline Diamond, where they resided for some time.  Mrs. Diamond swore that Peters struck her daughter at different times.  They were separated on a number of occasions.  Peters, it was said, would not work and did not pay his bills and actually got his wife, through misrepresentations, to sign a chattel mortgage upon the furniture given to her by her mother, and then squandered the money.

Obituary:  The demise of Nelson Peters aged 27 at his home on First street on Tuesday is one of the sad things to be recorded.  A young wife with an infant son at her side born on Sunday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Johnson, where the mother also is ill, such is the affliction of this family as the young husband succumbed to Bright's disease.  The funeral occurred from the home yesterday in charge of Rev. J. E. McDonald and it was a heart broken company that followed the bier to Cherry Grove.  Nelson Peters is a native of Bay City.  He had not long been a resident of Clare when the dread disease laid him low.  Besides wife and son he leaves father, mother, four brothers and three sisters to mourn his departure.  There were present at funeral from Bay City father, mother, sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thompson, sister, May, also brother, Henry from Detroit.  Much sympathy is expressed for the family.

Notes for Pearl Elizabeth Johnson:

Obituary:  The Bay City Times Extra (Bay City, MI), Saturday, 30 October 1954:  Mrs. Pearl Sanford, Clare - Funeral services for Mrs. Pearl Sanford, 67, lifetime resident of Clare, who died Friday morning at her home, will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at Clare Congregational church.  The Rev. Oscar Olson will officiate with burial in Cherry Grove cemetery in Clare.  Mrs. Sanford was a member of Gold Star Mothers, Order of Eastern Star and Clare Congregational church.  Surviving are one daughter and a step-son.
