Obituary: The South Bend Tribune (South Bend, IN), Saturday, 25 October 1980: Plymouth - Mrs. Lily M. Peters, 79, of Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home, died at 10:45 p.m. Friday. She was born on June 1, 1901, in Newton, Mass., and had lived in Marshall County since 1947. On July 28, 1920 she married Wilfred Peters. He died in 1953. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Lorraine) Adams, of Plymouth, Mrs. Dale (Leona) Reeg, of Oklahoma; a step-daughter, Mrs. George (Kay) Fortin, of Massachusetts; two sons, Joseph A., of Oklahoma and John E. of Columbia City; 25 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters. Services will be at 9 a.m. on Monday in St. Michael's Catholic Church. Rev. Bernard Galic, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Cochituate, Mass. Friends may call at the Van-Gilder Funeral Home, Plymouth, after 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. Memorials may be sent to St. Michael's School.

Catherine 'Kay' Peters: Marlborough Enterprise (MA), Tuesday, 4 November 2014: Mary Catherine Fortin, a longtime Marlborough resident and previously a resident of Cochituate and Wayland, died Thursday, October 30, 2014. She was 97. Catherine, known as Kay, was an avid gardener, skier, golfer, cook and Patriots fan, along with her husband of 37 years, George Fortin. When Kay and George celebrated their 90th birthdays at a family gathering in 2007, Kay was asked for tips on having a long life. She said, "I think the secret is to be a busy person. If you sit on a chair when you're 75 years old, you're finished." Kay was born on Feb. 19, 1917 to Emily Bernard and Wilfred Peters in Riverside, Rhode Island. In 1938 she married Elmer (Al) Peck of Cochituate. For many years Kay worked as an LPN-geriatric nurse, caring for the elderly at the Cochituate Nursing Home and Kathryn Barton Nursing Home. Following Al's death in 1974, Kay moved to Marlborough. Kay married George Fortin in 1977. In 2013, Kay received the 17th annual George Fortin Fit for Life Award from Wayside Racquet and Swim Club. Kay is survived by her loving husband George; stepsister Leona Reeg of Woodward, OK; daughter Barbara Peck (David) of Dayton, NV; son Bob Peck (Nancy) of Eastham, MA; stepson Paul Fortin of Boonville, NY; and stepdaughters Catherine Waugh (late Stephen) of Berlin, MA; Maureen Martin of Lowell, MA; and Margaret Miller (Kent) of Plymouth, MA. In the combined families, Kay is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Kay was preceded in death by her first husband Elmer (Al) Peck, daughter Eunice, and son-in-law Stephen Waugh. Visitation will be held Fri., Nov. 7, from 5-7 p.m. at the William R. Short & Son Funeral Home in Marlborough. On Sat., Nov. 8, a funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, followed by burial. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Marlborough or Hudson community food pantries.

Walnut St., who died Thursday in Bradenton, Fla., after an illness, will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Michael's Catholic Church, of which she was a member. Entombment will be in New Oak Hill Mausoleum. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the VanGilder Funeral Home where the rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's School. Mrs. Adams was born July 7, 1923 in Lawrence, Mass., and lived in Plymouth for 27 years. On Feb. 11, 1945, she married Clifford Adams. He survives with four daughters, Linda Shorter, Kay Faulstich and Carol Hall, all of Plymouth, and Barb Bottorff of Michigan City; six sons, James of Buffalo Grove, Ill., Dale of Mishawaka, Brian of Indianapolis, and Joseph 'Joe,' William 'Bill' and Paul, all of Plymouth; 14 grandchildren; a sister, Leona Reeg of Oklahoma; two brothers, John E. Peters of Columbia City, Ind., and Joseph A. Peters of Oklahoma; and a half sister, Kay Fortin of Massachusetts. Mrs. Adams was a member of Marshall County Right to Life.

John Edward Peters: The Journal Gazette (Fort Wayne, IN), Thursday, 24 July 2003: John E. 'Ed' Peters Sr., 75, a resident of South Whitley, died at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born Aug. 1, 1927, in Waltham, Mass., he was the son of Wilfred and Lilly (Perry) Peters. His formative years were spent in Cochituate, Mass. In 1944, he enlisted in the Merchant Marines for three years. In 1949, he moved to Indiana. On July 22, 1950, he was united in marriage to Doris I. Miller. They made their home in Richland Township, Whitley County, until June 1999, when they moved to their home in South Whitley. In April 1951, he was drafted into the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in April 1953. He did masonry work for Gordon Chapman Construction, D & C Construction and Rock Builders from New Paris. He established J. P. Oil in Larwill in 1963, which he operated until 1979. He then worked for Toban Chapman Enterprises. He was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church and American Legion Post 98. Surviving are his wife, Doris; nine children, John (Susie) Peters Jr. of Pierceton, Sandra (Steve) Miner of Pierceton, Tom Peters of South Whitley, Sharon (Mike) Sands of South Whitley, Mike (Tami) Peters of Fort Wayne, David (Sharon) Peters of South Whitley, Lori (Tony) Starkey of South Whitley, Lisa (Max) Busz of Pierceton and Jeff (Kris) Peters of Fort Wayne; 21 grandchildren; a sister, Leona Reeg of Woodward, Okla.; and a half sister, Kay Fortin of Massachusetts. The Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City, with visitation one hour before service. Father Larry Kramer, celebrant. Visitation is from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with a Rosary service at 8 p.m. Burial at Catholic Cemetery, Columbia City. For those who wish, memorials may be made to St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church or St. Vincent de Paul.
