Obituary: St. Landry Clarion (LA): Died, in the parish of Calcasieu, June 17, 1892, Louis Pitre, (Don Louis,) at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 10 days. Born in Plaisance, St. Landry parish, in 1810, of the old Creole Acadian stock; he moved to Calcasieu in 1842, where he had since resided. He was a brother of Onezime, Paul Joachim, Lastie and Francois L., (the latter only surviving,) all old land-marks of our parish. He was a good citizen, strictly law-abiding. He leaves about 110 children and grandchildren to mourn his death. Peace to his ashes.
Misc. Notes:
- 6 March 1880, Opelousas Courier (LA) – Some three months ago Mr. Don Louis Pitre, brother of Mr. F.L. Pitre of Washington, who resides on the Nezpique, in the parish of Calcasieu, got his leg broken just above the ankle, and has been confined to his bed ever since. A couple of weeks ago, our young friend, Dr. Wm. M. Thompson, recently elected Coroner of this parish, was called upon to attend to his case, and, finding amputation necessary, performed the operation in a skillful and successful manner. The old gentleman, although 72 years of age, was at last accounts rapidly improving, and it was confidently expected that he would be enabled to get about in a short time. Marshall is a good surgeon and will undoubtedly win distinction in his profession in the near future.
