Obituary: Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 20 February 1962: Lafayette - Funeral services were to be held at 4 p.m. today at the First Methodist Church of Lafayette for Lee J. Pitre Sr., 60, a native of the Prairie Ronde section near Opelousas. Pitre died Monday at M. B. Anderson Hospital at Houston, Tex., after a brief illness. A resident of Lafayette for 12 years, Pitre was employed by Gulf States Utilities Co. He had been associated with the company for 32 years. Survivors are his wife, the former Mary M. Childs of Lafayette; one daughter, Mrs. Henry Duke Jr. of Lafayette; one son, Lee J. Pitre Jr. of Lima, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Maher of Church Point and Mrs. J. A. Ryder of Opelousas; two brothers, Octave Pitre Jr. and Bennie Pitre, both of Opelousas. Interment will take place in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens on the Carencro Highway. The Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette has charge of the arrangements.

Obituary: Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 22 October 1995: Lafayette - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Maud Childs Pitre, 83, who died Thursday, Oct. 19, in Safety Harbor, Fla. The Rev. Jack Odell, pastor of First Methodist Church, will conduct the service. Internment will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum. Mrs. Pitre was a native of Lawtell, the daughter of the late Linus Childs and the former Tennessee Marshall, and had been a resident of Lafayette for the past 45 years. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Pitre, of Englewood, Colo.; a son, Lee J. Pitre of Clearwater, Fla.; two sisters, Angie Mason and Nettie Billings, both of Jacinto City, Texas; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held from 8 a.m. until time of service Sunday. The Delhomme Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.

Pitre Jr., 70, passed away surrounded by his loving family at St. Anthony's Hospital on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Judith; daughter, Kathryn Driver, son-in-law, Kirk Driver, and 12-year-old granddaughter, Rachel Driver; and daughter, Karen Becker and 3-year-old twin grandchildren, Madison and Jackson. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Janet Fowler; his sister, Mary Barton; 3 nieces, and many cousins. Lee was a graduate of LSU in Lafayette, LA. He was very proud of his Cajun background and loved sharing his stories and Cajun cooking secrets with his family and friends. Lee was an electrical engineer with Westinghouse, General Electric, and Martin Marietta. One of his favorite job experiences was working on the Apollo 11 mission at Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral. He was also involved for many years in officiating swim meets for his daughters' high school and college swim teams as they grew up. He was a member of the GE Elfun club where he worked on many community service projects with his fellow Elfun members. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, in the chapel at First United Methodist Church.
