Misc.:  Bay City Times (Bay City, MI), Sunday, 2 September 1900:  The Peters Case - Further Adjourned for Two Weeks -- Wife Very Low:  The case of Louis Peters, charged with abandoning his wife and child, was yesterday further adjourned for two weeks by an arrangement effected between Assistant Prosecutor Coumaus and James E. Duffy, counsel for the defendant.  Peters agrees to give his wife more money within the next few days and to continue supporting her and the child as the law requires he shall.  It is said that the authorities now have a better case against him than when first arrested, and that unless he lives up to his promises he will be severely dealt with.  Mrs. Peters was very low yesterday.  For a time it was feared she would not survive the day.  Ione, her little daughter, is also in a very critical condition.  Friday night she had 13 convulsions, and unless a change comes soon for the better her chances for recovery are considered very slim.

- Bay City Daily Tribune (Bay City, MI), Sunday, 9 September 1900:  Truant Officer Craig learned last night that the infant child of Henry L. Peters had died during the week, and that the mother was very low.  Peters has been under arrest for over a month on a charge of neglecting to support the child, and the death will relieve him of the charge.  It was said last night that Mrs. Peters could not live till morning.

- Bay City Times (Bay City, MI), Friday, 5 October 1900:  Louis Peters defrayed the expenses of his wife's funeral, which took place this afternoon.

Notes for Lottie Bell Hess:

Obituary:  Bay City Times (Bay City, MI), Thursday, 4 October 1900:  Mrs. Peters is Dead.  Sufferings ended at home of her mother - Sad case which has been Referred to many times:  Mrs. Louis Peters died yesterday afternoon at 4:20 o'clock at the home of her mother, Mrs. S. D. Hess, in the Arnold block, after an illness of over a year from consumption.  She was 30 years old and leaves a husband but no children, her daughter Ione having died about four weeks ago.  The deceased was married seven years ago.  She and her husband did not get along well together, and a few months since he left the city and went to Flint, where he was arrested and brought back on a warrant charged with abandoning his wife and child.  His case was adjourned from time to time on his promising to provide for his little daughter.  In two months Mrs. Peters received from him, according to Mrs. Hess' statement, just $9, aside from defraying the expenses of the child's funeral.  When Mrs. Peters died yesterday Peters was notified, but did not put in an appearance to make any arrangements for her burial.  Mrs. Hess said this morning that if he desired to come to the house and view the remains of his wife there would be no objections raised.  The death of his wife and child leaves Peters a free man, as the case against him in the police court will undoubtedly be dropped.  The deceased was a daughter of the late S. D. Hess.  She was born in this city and had a large circle of friends.  During her sickness she had wasted away until only a skeleton remained at the time of her demise.  Besides her mother she leaves the following brothers and sisters:  James Hess, of South Bend, Ind.; who arrived in the city this morning; David, Bert and Samuel Hess, of Bay City; Mrs. James Mandley and Mrs. Henry Tremple, Bay City; Mrs. Nicholas Ward, of Essexville; Mrs. John Collins, of Chicago, and Mrs. Reuben Pringle, of Ashland, Wis.  The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon from the house.
