MISC: The Courier (Houma, LA), Saturday, 24 October 1998: With just a rug to warm themselves, two elderly brothers spent an unintended night under a cold autumn night sky. Russell and Kermit Pitre were finally found run aground on a mud flat about 10 a.m. Friday morning by the Terrebonne Sheriff's Water Patrol, almost a day after they had launched their fishing boat from Sportsman's Paradise in Cocodrie, according to a Sheriff's Office release. By well after nightfall Thursday, the Pitre brothers had not returned, leading the Sheriff's Office on an extensive search both by boat and by air. Russell Pitre, who lives in Moselle, Miss., is 78, and Kermit Pitre, who lives in French Settlement, is 76. Sheriff's officials worried that the two men might have succumbed to Thursday's cold weather. Worries about possible foul play arose when deputies found the old men's abandoned truck and trailer still at the Sportsman's Paradise boat launch. But after being rescued, the brothers waived medical attention, and returned to their camp in Cocodrie. The Sheriff's Office warns fishers and hunters to take extra care with the weather turning cold. They suggest informing others of your plans and bringing along a cell phone or radio, as well as food, water and warm clothing.

Visitation will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 2128 Bull Run Rd, Chacahoula, LA 70395, from 8:30am until memorial service at 11:00am on Saturday, October 22, 2016. He is survived by his daughters, Yvette Chiasson, Yvonne Robichaux, Juanita Champagne; sons, Kermit, Jr., Kenneth, Keith, and Kirk; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lou Belle Bourgeois; brothers, Joseph, Russell, Milford, Andrew, Shelby, Jesse, and Royce; and sons in law, Raymond Chiasson, Ed Robichaux, and James Champagne. She was born September 16, 1948 in Schriever, LA to Kermit and Dorothy Pitre. Yvonne married Adam Joseph Robichaux in 1980 who preceded her in death in 2006. Yvonne enjoyed volunteering at her church, attending Bible studies and loving people. This woman never met a stranger. She shared her love with food, cooking large meals for her ever growing family and group of friends where everyone was more than welcome. Her life was one immersed in the goodness and steadfastness of God. She will forever be a living example of how crucial a relationship with Jesus is. Yvonne is survived by her daughters Tina Duplantis (Keith), Angela Black (Moses), Janie Spearman (Scott); step-children Monica Leboeuf (Burt) and Stephen Robichaux.
