Obituary:  Morning Sentinel (Waterville, ME), Monday, 30 December 1991:  (photo) Fairfield - Vincent C. Peters, 80, of 6 Gilbreth St., founder and operator of Peters Gas and Oil Co. here for 35 years, died unexpectedly Saturday in Portland.  Prior to establishing that business, he was a long-time service station owner-operator here.  Born Sept. 17, 1911, in Waterville, son of Gilbert and Mary (Couture) Peters, he graduated in 1932 Fairfield's Lawrence High School and, in 1935, married Wilma LaVoie.  She died in 1968.  A World War II veteran who served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Leyte, he was a member of the National Guard.  He was a member and past commander of the Grover-Hinckley American Legion Post here and was also a member of the Fairfield Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.  A member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church here, he was a life member of Waterville Council, Knights of Columbus, and St. Jude League.  He served on the town council here and town budget committee and was a Fairfield Fire Department member.  He was a member of the School Administrative District 49 board of directors that authorized construction of an elementary school in Fairfield.  He served on the first board of directors for the state vocational-technical school in Portland and was a member of the Waterville Regional Vocational-Technical Center board of directors.  For 16 years, he served as treasurer for the Fairfield Little League and youth baseball organizations.  He was a past president of the Fairfield Kiwanis Club with over 25 years of perfect attendance at its meetings.  He was also a member of the New England and International Kiwanis Foundations.  For over 30 years, he was a member of the Fairfield Republican Town Committee and served as treasurer of the Somerset County Republican Committee.  He served on the Fairfield Industrial Committee and was a Waterville Area Chamber of Commerce, Economic Resources Council of Maine and Central Maine Apartment Owners Association member.  For the former Depositors Trust Co., now Key Bank, he served on the Waterville-area advisory board and was a member and past president of Kennebec Water District's board of directors.  He served on the Goodwill-Hinckley School board of directors.  He was also a member of the Pine Tree Society for Handicapped Children and Adults headquartered in Bath, Boy Scouts of America Alumni Family, Gulf of Maine Aquarium, National Park Service, Radio Parish Church of America, American Red Cross, National Insurance Consumers Organization, Ellis Island Foundation, Special Olympics, and Interdenominational Men's Breakfast Group in Waterville.  In 1968, he was presented with Fairfield Jaycees' distinguished service award and, in 1973, with the Lawrence High School Bulldog award by the school's alumni association.  Surviving are his wife, Winona Berrie Mullen, whom he married 22 years ago, and a son, James, both of Fairfield; two daughters, Mrs. Emile (Janice) Landry of Oakland and Mrs. James (Janine) Longhran of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Carroll (Marguerite) Emery of Fairfield and Mrs. Pelegia Freeman of Norwalk, Calif.; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.  Three brothers, Gilbert, Bernard and Lawrence, died previously.  Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, Fairfield.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Fairfield, with Rev. Marcel Dumouline, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be made at Fairfield's Maplewood Cemetery.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Goodwill-Hinckley School, Hinckley, Maine.

Obituary:  Kennebec Journal (Augusta, ME), Saturday, 7 September 1968:  Fairfield - Mrs. Wilma Peters, 54, wife of Vincent Peters of 227 Main St., died at a Waterville hospital Friday after a long illness.  She was born in Council Bluff, Idaho, Jan. 30, 1914, the daughter of John and Izetta Anderson LaVoie.  She is survived by her parents of West Gardiner, her husband of Fairfield, one son, James Peters of Fairfield; two daughters, Mrs. Janice Gardin of Havrede Grace, Md., Mrs. Jannine Loughran of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; three brothers, Edward and Winston of Gardiner, and Carl LaVoie of Livermore Falls; three sisters, Mrs. Elloween Piper, Mrs. Donna Socett and Mrs. Imogene Smart, all of West Gardiner; four grandchildren.  She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Fairfield, Daughters of Isabella, Fairfield Public Health Council and the Credit Womans Club of Waterville.  Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Fairfield.  Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Fairfield.

Obituary:  Morning Sentinel (Waterville, ME), Thursday, 13 October 2005:  Fairfield - Winona B. Peters, 96, formerly of Fairfield went to be with her Lord on Wednesday morning, Oct. 12, 2005, at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta.  She was born in Millinocket on Dec. 14, 1908, the daughter of the late Albert C. and Ethel M. (Thompson) Berrie.  She was a graduate of Classical High School, Providence, R.I., class of 1927.  In 1931, she graduated from Colby College in Waterville where she was Phi Mu.  She was predeceased by her first husband, Martin J. Mullen in 1965, and was predeceased by her second husband, Vincent C. Peters, in 1991.  Mrs. Peters was a high school teacher for 37 years in Fairfield and Waterville, retiring from Waterville in the late 1960s.  She and her husband, Martin J. Mullen, owned and operated Mullen's Jewelry Store in Fairfield from 1947 to 1965.  Mrs. Peters was a member of the Maine Retired Teachers Association, N.E.A., and Delta Kappa Gamma.  She was also Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star of Fairfield, and was Past Grand Matron for the Order of Eastern Star of Maine.  Mrs. Peters enjoyed knitting and crocheting, hooking rugs, needle point, and being with her family and friends.  Mrs. Peters was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairfield since 1931.  She was a Sunday school teacher, treasurer, belonged to the Golden Rule Philathea Class, deaconess, and held many other capacities at the church.  She was predeceased by three brothers, Berrill, Albert and Clinton Berrie; and a sister, Norma Perry.  She is survived by her two children, Douglas B. Mullen and his wife, Sandra T., of Fairfield and Linda L. McPhail and her husband, Sherwin, of Benton; a sister, Bernice Libby of Ellsworth; six grandchildren, Berrie C. Mullen and his wife, Julie, of Falmouth, Martin J. Martin of Concord, N.H., Gretchen Fletcher of Elliot, Stephen Oliver and his companion, Darlene, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Peter Oliver of Bangor and Karen McPhail of Benton; and 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield.  A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the First Baptist Church on Newhall Street in Fairfield, with the Rev. David Johnston officiating.  Private burial will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Fairfield.  Following the service, there will be a reception downstairs at the church to share conversation and refreshments.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Baptist Park, P.O. Janice M. Peters:  The Baltimore Sun (Baltimore, MD), Saturday, 9 March 1996:  Landry, Janice Marie.  On Friday, March 8, 1996 Janice Marie Landry in Towson, MD.  She was born in Waterville, Maine on August 27, 1936, the daughter of the late Vincent C. and Wilma (LaVoie) Peters.  A graduate of Lawrence High School in Fairfield, ME., she later received her LPN at Kennebec Valley Vocational Technical Institute in Fairfield, ME.  Ms. Landry has been a health care nurse for Kennebec Regional Health in Waterville, ME, and was most recently employed as a nurse at Volmers Nursing and Care Facility in Vassalboro, ME.  Ms. Landry was a resident of Waterville, Maine before returning to Maryland in January to be with her three daughters.  While in Maine, Ms. Landry was an officer of St. Theresa's Ladies Guild; an officer of the Cascade Grange, and previously served as Town Health Officer for the Town of Oakland.  Survivors include three daughters, Jane (Gardin) Backert of Baltimore, MD., Jean (Gardin) (Jones) Arno of Havre deGrace, MD., and Gardin (Gardin) Carroll of Baltimore, MD, a brother James E. Peters of Fairfield, ME, a sister Janine Loughran of Fort Wayne, Indiana, two granddaughters Jeanette (Jones) Merrill of Waterville, ME and Julie Arno of Havre deGrace, MD., a step-mother Winona (Berry) (Mullins) Peters of Fairfield, ME, former husband George F. Gardin of Bel Air, MD. (married in 1954) and former husband Emile A. Landry of Oakland, ME. James A. Peters:  Morning Sentinel (Waterville, ME), Wednesday, 7 January 2009:  Fairfield - James A. Peters, 70, passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, from advanced pancreatic cancer brought on from many years of severe diabetes.  He passed away quietly at the VA Hospital in Roxbury, Mass.  Born May 8, 1938, in Waterville, Jim was the son of Vincent C. and Wilma (LaVoie) Peters of Fairfield.  Vincent Peters was the founder of Peters' Gas & Oil service in 1955.  Upon graduating from Colburn Classical Institute, James Peters went into the Army and served with the 5th S&T Transportation BN at Fort Carson, Colo., from 1961 to 1963 during the Panama Canal conflict.  He was also present and witnessed the construction of the Norad Military Base at that time.  Jim is survived by his two married daughters, Lisa Fernands and Tammy Richards; his sister, Janine Prewitt; his aunt, Marguerite Emery; four nieces, one great-niece, one great-great-niece, and a vast number of cousins.  He was predeceased by his sister, Janice Landry.  The family will hold a committal service in the spring at Maplewood Cemetery in Fairfield where, per his wishes, Jim will be laid to rest behind his father's headstone.
