Obituary:  Sun Journal (Lewiston, ME), Sunday, 1 April 2007:  (photo) Rumford - Joseph Roger Petrie, 78, of Knox Street, Rumford, died March 30 at home with his devoted wife by his side.  He was born in Rumford on Jan. 5, 1929, the son of Dennis and Alice (Boudreau) Petrie.  He joined the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II.  He was employed at Oxford Paper Co. until his retirement.  He was a member of the VFW Post 1641, the American Legion Post 24 and the Father Barry Knights of Columbus Council 2091, which is where he held offices of treasurer, trustee and pilot of the 4th degree.  He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and bowling.  He was a member of the Monday Men's Pine Tree Bowling League, Wednesday's Couples League and Dot Day's on Fridays.  He was an active communicant of St. Athanasius & St. John Catholic Church and a devoted volunteer at Thursday night bingo.  In 1948, he married Estelle (Jaros) Petrie, who predeceased him in 1986.  He was fortunate to find love again, and in 1999, he married Shirley (Bradbury) Petrie, with whom he happily shared his final years.  He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Bradbury) Petrie; his loving children, David Petrie and wife, Margaret, of Attleboro, Mass., Priscilla 'Cilla' Prevost and husband, David, of Rumford, Wayne Petrie of Rumford, Mark Petrie and wife, Teresa, of Rumford, Gloria Provencher and husband, Terrance, of Rumford, and Gary Petrie and wife, Deanna, of Rumford; daughter-in-law, Nancy Petrie of Berlin, N.H.; three sisters, Marie Coffin and husband, Millett, Joan Cyr and husband, Al, and Sharon Sirois and husband, Rudy, all of Rumford; 17 grandchildren, Jeanette, Jane, Kristyn, Kelley, Kevin, Patrick, Tareena, Matthew, Malinda, Michael, Jason, Bryanne, Jonathan, Sydney, Kendal, Julianne and Amanda; and seven great-grandchildren, Campbell, Alexis, Jade, Gavyn, Ava, Britney and Kylie.  He was predeceased by his first wife, Estelle Jaros Petrie; a son, Bernard; brothers, J. Dennis Petrie and J. R. Petrie; and a sister, Cora Wade.

Obituary:  The Lewiston Daily Sun (Lewiston, ME), Thursday, 20 February 1986:  Rumford - Estelle M. Petrie, 56, died Monday at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where she was a patient for the past two weeks.  She resided at 653 Cresent Ave., and lived in the area all her life.  She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Jan. 5, 1930, the daughter of Charles and Mary Wenckus Jaros.  She was a 1948 graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford.  She was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church in Rumford.  For many years she had served as a school crossing guard and as a meter maid for the Rumford Police Department.  She was married in Rumford, May 16, 1949, to Joseph Roger Petrie.  Survivors include her husband of Rumford; her mother, Mrs. Mary Jaros of Rumford; two daughters, Mrs. David (Priscilla) Prevost and Mrs. Terrance (Gloria) Provencher, both of Rumford; five sons, David of Attleboro Mass., Bernard P. of Berlin, N.H., Wayne and Mark, both of Rumford, and Gary John Petrie of Lewiston; two sisters, Mrs. Adelard (Theresa) Legere of Rumford and Mrs. Harold (Barbara) Heath of Livermore; one brother, Charles Jaros of Andover; and 11 grandchildren.

Obituary:  Sun Journal (Lewiston, ME), Thursday, 2 July 2020:  Rumford - Shirley Ann Petrie, 84, of Holman Road in Rumford, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at home, with her family.  She was born in Rumford on April 29, 1936, a daughter of Lester E. Bradbury and Pauline L. Coolidge.  Shirley enjoyed spending time with friends and family, including trips to the coast with close friends, weekend visits with her sister, and being home with her grandchildren.  Surviving are her five sisters; her six children; and many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.  Shirley was predeceased by her parents; and husband of eight years, Joseph Roger Petrie.  A celebration of Shirley's life will be held from 1:00-6:00 p.m., Saturday, July 12, at her son Jay Petrie's home.  If so desired, contributions in Shirley's memory may be made to: Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice, Lewiston, ME

Petrie, 49, of 653 Western Ave., Berlin, N.H., died Sunday evening, Oct. 21.  Born in Rumford, March 5, 1952, the son of Joseph R. and Estelle M. (Jaros) Petrie, he had resided in Berlin for the past 23 years.  Mr. Petrie was a 1971 graduate of Rumford Hgh School.  He was employed by Bancroft Contracting for the past 10 years.  He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 82 in Gorham, N.H., and was an avid hunter and fisherman.  Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Doherty) Petrie of Berlin, N.H.; a son, Patrick and his fiancee, Hollie Poirier of Berlin, N.H.; a daughter, Tareena Petrie and her fiance, Kevin Marquis of Concord, N.H.; two granddaughters, Britteny and Kylie of Concord, N.H.; his father and stepmother, Shirley of Rumford; four brothers, David of Attleboro, Mass., and Wayne, Mark and Gary all of Rumford; two sisters, Priscilla Prevost of Rumford and Gloria Provencher of Mexico; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by his mother.

 

Wayne P. Petrie:  Rumford Falls Times (Rumford, ME), Wednesday, 30 May 2018:  (photo) Rumford - Wayne P. Petrie, 65, of Hancock Street in Rumford, passed away unexpectedly on May 5, 2018 at Rumford Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Rumford on February 17, 1953, a son of Joseph and Estelle (Jaros) Petrie.  Wayne was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Rumford High School.  He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior and was the organist and choir director at St. Theresa's for many years and sang in the choir at St. John's.  He worked as the activity director at Horizon's Unlimited for over 20 years and as a CRMA at Rumford Community Home, until his health failed.  Wayne enjoyed playing the piano, making all occasion cakes, following all sports and playing Bingo.  Surviving are his sisters, Priscilla Prevost and husband, Dave of Rumford, and Gloria Provencher and husband, Terrance of Rumford; brothers, David Petrie and wife, Margaret of Attleboro, MA, Mark Petrie and wife, Teresa of Rumford, and Gary Petrie and wife, Deanna of Rumford; a sister-in-law, Nancy Petrie Dupont of New Hampshire; many nieces and nephews; a godchild, Kristyn Endler of Florida; and many special friends at the Somerset Apartments.  He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Bernard Petrie.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 8:15 a.m. on June 5, 2018 at Parish of the Holy Savior.  Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the care and guidance of S. G. Thibault Funeral Home, Rumford.
