M., Canadian Infantry Corps, was born at Robertville, Gloucester County, N.B. on July 18, 1921.  He resided there prior to his enlistment in Canadian Active Army, was taken on strength with the rank of private on June 4, 1941.  He proceeded overseas in November, 1941.  He is the son of James Pitre, of Robertville, N.B.

- Daily Gleaner (NB), Saturday, 3 April 1948:  "On the night of 22-23 December 1944, No. 15 Platoon of "C" Company the Cape Breton Highlanders, was ordered to clear a section of the near bank of the Senio River.  During the advance to the objective the Platoon was subjected to extremely heavy mortar and small arms fire and was subsequently halted by one machine gun post which completely dominated the position.  Realizing that further advance by the Platoon was impossible until this post was wiped out Private Pitre immediately left his covered position and advanced across open ground, a distance of seventy-five yards, towards the enemy post firing his Bren gun from the hip as he went.  As soon as he jumped out of his trench the machine gun swung in his direction and he received the full force of the fire.  Undeterred he continued his advance and finally succeeded in killing the crew of four when only a few yards from the position.  This gallant and determined action of Private Pitre enabled the Platoon to attain and consolidate the objective."
