Death:  St. Lawrence Republican (NY), Wednesday, 10 March 1915: TRACK WALKER FINDS FROZEN MAN NEAR RAIL - IDENTIFIED AS JOSEPH PEET WHO WENT TO MALONE FROM ELLENBURGH:  Malone, March 4:  The body of a man was found by track-walker Duncan Cummings at an early hour yesterday, a short distance west of the Smallman crossing, near the limits of the Rutland railroad yards.  The body was lying about two feet from the rails on the north side of the track, and with the head from the rails.  It was taken in charge by Undertaker Henderson.  The body was in a badly frozen condition and although a large number of railroad men and others viewed it, no one could positively state that he had ever seen the man before.  The man was well dressed and a watch which was found in a pocket of his blue flannel shirt was found to have stopped at 11 o'clock.  Two dollars in money was found in a pocket book, together with a money order receipt for three dollars issued at the post office at Ellenburgh, N.Y.  The postmaster at Ellenburgh was communicated with and within a short time information came that the money order had been issued to a woman by the name of Peet and that her husband's name was Joseph Peet.  Further questioning elicited the fact that Mr. Peet had come to Malone Tuesday, having left Ellenburgh on the noon train and that his wife was hired as a domestic in Malone.  It was ascertained that Mrs. Peet was employed at the Omega Hotel and that her son, Joseph, was working for Smallman & Spencer.  Neither of them, however, had been informed of the accident.  Joseph Peet at once went to the Henderson undertaking room, where he identified the dead man as his father.  Joseph Peet stated that he was unaware that he had visited Malone.  He said that his father was about 65 years of age and had always resided at Ellenburgh.  Besides Mrs. Peet, two sons, Joseph of Malone and Charles of Ellenburgh, and three daughters, Mrs. Horace Hicks and the Misses Mary and Lena Peet of Ellenburgh, survive.  That the man met his death from freezing is believed certain.
