- State Times Advocate (Baton Rouge, LA), Saturday, 8 April 1950:  New Orleans, April 8 - Two ex-convicts, just released from a Texas prison yesterday, were arrested by police the same day here as they tried to sell a stolen automobile to a used car dealer......Jean Pitre, 37, manager of a used car lot, became suspicious of them when they tried to sell him the car and called police.....

- Times Picayune (New Orleans, LA), Thursday, 3 February 1955:  Salesman in Hospital after shooting self:  Jean Pitre, 43, 507 S. Telemachus, was under treatment at Charity hospital Wednesday night for what police described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound of the forehead.  His condition was undetermined.  Third District police said Pitre, an automobile salesman, shot himself while at his apartment about 1:05 p.m.  He was reported despondent because of ill health.

Obituary:  The Daily Advertiser (Lafayette, LA), Wednesday, 11 July 2001:  Hathaway - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church for Vena Gary Pitre, 89, of Broussard, who died at 11:10 p.m. Monday, July 9, in Maison de Lafayette nursing home.  The Rev. Eappen Joseph will officiate.  Burial will be in Doucet Cemetery.  Mrs. Pitre was born Jan. 3, 1912, in Hathaway.  She was a licensed practical nurse for 45 years and practiced nursing in Jennings and Lafayette.  Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Louis (Jean) Meyer of Broussard; one sister, Lois Benoit, of Hathaway; two grandchildren, Rachael and Ted Meyer; and two great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Josephine Gary; two brothers, Adam Gary and Polite Pete Gary; and five sisters, Ava LeBlanc, Avelie LeJeune, Josephine Chaisson, Pauline Landry and Louise Gary.  A wake service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday.  Visitation was from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and continues from 8 a.m. to service time today.  Matthews & Son Funeral Home of Jennings is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary:  The Times Picayune (New Orleans, LA), Saturday, 29 January 2000:  Mildred Warren Scobel, age 83, a longtime resident of Gretna and now a resident of Baton Rouge died at 5 p.m. Thursday at her residence.  She was a retired secretary for Lykes Brothers Steamship.  Survived by: 2 sons: Buddy Wood of Franklinton, William P. Pitre of Baton Rouge; 1 daughter: Delores Ann Gill of Long Beach, CA; 1 sister, Marie Kleisch of Orange, TX; 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren.  Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home after 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Karl Tingle officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Westlawn Mausoleum in New Orleans.
