Obituary: The Times Transcript (Moncton, NB), Saturday, 14 April 1962: Chatham - The death of John Petrie, a well-known resident of this community occurred at Hotel Dieu Friday after a short illness. He was 77. Surviving are six sons, Stafford and Gilbert, Chatham, Ernest, Moose Jaw, Sask., Herman, Saint John and Alyward and Jack, St. Catherine's Ont.; three daughters, Mrs. Arthur Gervais, Montreal, Mrs. Dennis Lewis, Toronto and Mrs. Harry Barry, Chatham; one brother, Clement, Berlin, U.S.A., and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Wedge, Dolbeau, Que. The funeral will be held Monday at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church with requiem mass at 9 a.m. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Petrie was the former Elizabeth Witzell of Tracadie and was seventy-seven years of age. Surviving besides her husband are six sons, Ernest, Moose Jaw, Sask., Herman, Saint John; Gilbert and Stafford of Chatham; Alyward, St. Catherines, Ont.; and John, Bathurst; three daughters, Mrs. Harry Barry, Chatham; Mrs. Arthur Gervais, Montreal; and Mrs. Dennis Lewis, St. Catherines, Ont.; one brother, Alfred Witzell, Tracadie. The funeral arrangements have not been completed.

James Stafford Petrie: Miramichi Leader (Miramichi, NB), Friday, 27 April 2012: (photo) Stafford James Petrie, 94, of Miramichi, NB, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital. Born in Chatham, NB, the son of the late John M. Petrie and Elizabeth Witzell. Stafford was a member of the North Shore Regiment during WWII. He served overseas in Europe and on Juno Beach on D-Day. He served as an usher, alter server at St. Michael's Basilica, Honorary Life Member of Fr. Broderick Council #1219, and Bishop Hill 4th degree Assembly #617 of the Knights of Columbus, Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #3. He was, while employed at St. Margaret's, a member of Local 302 of the Union of National Defence Employees and was a member of the Federal Superannuates Association. He is survived by his son, Fred Petrie of Miramichi, brother, Jack Petrie of Oshawa, sister Viola Lewis of Ottawa and cousins. He is predeceased by his wife Dorothy (Edwards) Petrie, brothers Ernest Petrie, Herman Petrie, Gilbert Petrie, Alward Petrie, and sisters Mariah Gervais, Lillian Barry, Lillian Barry. Stafford Petrie rested at Maher's Funeral Home Miramichi on Monday, April 23rd from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 24th at 10am from St. Michael's Basilica with Fr John Fraser celebrant, co-celebrants were Fr Jim McQuade, Fr Leon Creamer and Fr Jacques Landry. Active pallbearers were The Royal New Brunswick Regiment (North Shore Regiment). Honorary pallbearers were Jean Paulin, Colin Fraser, Ian Flieger, Raymond Trevors and George Springer. The Royal New Brunswick Regiment (North Shore Regiment), The Newcastle Seniors Friendship Club and the Bishop Hill Assembly 4th degree formed a guard of Honor. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #3 held a legion services on Monday evening. Interment was in St. Michael's Cemetery.
