Obituary:  The Post Standard (Syracuse, NY), Friday, 28 July 1967:  Massena - Services for James La Shomb, 43, killed early Thursday in a one-car accident on Route 56A, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Catholic Church of the Visitation, Norfolk.  Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery, Norfolk.  Lashomb, father of five sons and a 22-year-service man at Alcoa, Massena opeartions, was found at 3:45 a.m. Thursday in his automobile which had left Route 56A and jumped 39 feet across a culvert-type ditch.  He was pronounced dead on arrival at Massena memorial Hospital by Dr. Maurice Elder, coroner's physician.  Dr. Samuel Livingston, Madrid, issued a verdict of accidental death due to a crushed chest.  No inquest is planned.  Troopers D.D. Reardon and B.C. Arter and BCI Officer Garth Griffin of the Massena substation investigated.  The body will remain at the Phillips Memorial Home until the services.  Mr. La Shomb was born in Massena.  He attended Louisville and Massena schools and served in World War II in the Army Air Corps.  Surviving are his father, Vernon LaShomb; his wife; five sons, Norman in the Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base; Wayne, Roger, Bryan and Jack LaShomb, all at home; three brothers, Edward of Route 2, Norfolk; George of Epping, N.H., and Donald LaShomb of Exeter, N.H., and three sisters, Mrs. Bruce Charity of New Market, N.H., Mrs. Agnes Rouselle of Massena and Mrs. Harold Olson of Helena.

- Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday 1 August 1967:  Funeral services for James Michael LaShomb, 43, Plumbrook Rd., were held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning at the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk, with burial in the parish cemetery.  Mr. LaShomb was killed in a one-car accident early Thursday morning, July 27,1967, on Route 56-A.  That evening he had driven to Chase Mills to visit his aunt, Mrs. Eva Martin, and then on to Madrid.  He was returning home from Madrid on Route 56-A, near Norfolk, and at the intersection with the Stark County Rd. his vehicle went to the left of the highway for 68 feet along the grassy shoulder, into a sideways skid for 181 feet, missed a large tree, then went through a fence, hurtled into a ditch and struck the opposite bank.  The impact drove the front wheels back more than two feet and the steering column within a few inches of the back of the front seat.  Exact time of the accident is not known.  The wrecked car was not discovered until 3:45 a.m. Thursday.  A driver for the St. Lawrence Haulers saw the wreck and he awakened the Paul Tiernan family.  Members of the Norfolk Rescue Squad took nearly a half hour to pry open the door on the driver's side and release the man.  He was rushed to Massena Memorial Hospital and was declared dead.  State Policemen D. D. Reardon and R. C. Carter, BCI Officer Garth Griffin of the Massena sub-station investigated the accident.  Dr. Maurice Elder was coroner's physician, Dr. Samuel Livingston, Madrid, coroner, issued a verdict of accidental death due to a crushed chest.  The accident happened on the Paul Tiernan farm.  Mrs. Tiernan said she was awakened at about 1 o'clock by a noise.  She awakened her husband.  The dog barked.  They looked around the property but could see nothing amiss.  The lights of the car were out and the vehicle was hidden behind a large barn.  Mr. LaShomb was born in Massena, July 22, 1924, a son of Vernon LaShomb, N. Main St., and the late Mrs. Elizabeth Losey LaShomb.  He attended Massena and Louisville area schools and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War 2, from 1943-1944.  He was a 22-year man at Alcoa.  He and Miss Loretta Bush, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Corey Bush, Norfolk, were married Oct. 4, 1947.  They were married in a double wedding service with his sister, Miss Irene LaShomb and Harold Olson, each couple attending the other couple.  Since then they have resided in the township of Norfolk.  He reached his 43rd birthday last Saturday, and Mrs. LaShomb baked a cake.  Their oldest son, Norman, 19, had the same birthday, and the one cake always served, for both birthdays.  Just a few days before the son had left for training at Lackland AFB, Tex.  Surviving are the wife; five children, Norman LaShomb, who was able to return from Lackland for his father's funeral; Wayne 18, Roger 14, Bryan 10, and Jack 3; three brothers, Edward LaShomb, Norfolk, who with his wife had left just a few days ago to visit her family in England, George LaShomb, Epping, N.H., and Donald LaShomb Exeter, N.H.; three sisters, Mrs. Bruce (Wilma) Charity, Newmarket, N. H., Mrs. Kenneth (Agnes) Rouselle, N. Main St., Mrs. Harold (Arleen) Olson, Helena.  Mr. LaShomb was a communicant of the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk and the Holy Name Society.  He was a member of the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club.

Misc.:  Bellingham Herald (WA), Saturday, 19 March 1932 - Winthrop, N.Y. - (U.P.) - James Lashomb, 8, saved himself from drowning in an ice-covered stream near here when he clung to the ice after falling through while skating.  His only concern was that he lost his skates.

Obituary:  Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Wednesday, 11 May 2005:  Norfolk - Loretta A. LaStraw, 75, of 1511 County Route 38, died Tuesday morning at St. Regis Nursing Home, Massena.  Mrs. LaStraw was a homemaker and a communicant of the Church of the Visitation.  Born Aug. 23, 1929, in Raymondville, daughter of Corey J. and Marie Love Bush, she received most of her education in Norfolk, then graduated from Massena High School.  She married James LaShomb on Oct. 4, 1947.  He died July 27, 1967.  She married William J. LaStraw on May 9, 1970.  He died Sept. 9, 1989.  Surviving are five sons and four daughters-in-law, Norman and Sharon LaShomb, Roger and Dawn LaShomb and Wayne and Sally LaShomb, all of Norfolk, Bryan LaShomb, Massena, and Jack and Gloria LaShomb, Buffalo; a sister, Thelma Planty, Norfolk, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  Two brothers, Orville and Lyle Bush, died before her.  The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Buck Funeral Home with the Rev. Andrew J. Amyot, pastor of the Church of the Visitaion, officiating.  Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery.  Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Donations may be made to Norfolk Rescue Squad.

Wayne B. Lashomb:  North Country Now:  A Celebration of Life for 68 year old Wayne B. LaShomb, a resident of 16 Gladding Road, Massena, will be held at the family home.   Mr. LaShomb passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.  Wayne is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sally; his 3 daughters, Laurie LaShomb and Michelle Pennington, Winslow, AZ, Danielle Kent, Massena and Amanda Cota, Plattsburgh along with his 7 grandchildren,  He is also survived by his 4 brothers, Norman and Sharon LaShomb, Roger and Dawn LaShomb, Bryan and Debbie LaShomb, all residing in Norfolk, and Jack and Gloria LaShomb, Amherst, NY.  Wayne is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.  Born in Massena, NY on March 15, 1951 to the late James and Loretta Bush LaShomb, Wayne graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central and married Sally E. Malley on November 29, 1969.  He worked as a Journeyman machinist for General Motors in Massena and Syracuse for 32 years before he retired in 2000.  He was a proud member of the Raymondville Country Club.  Wayne was also part of the Ski Patrol at Titus Mountain for many years until 2017.  He truly enjoyed skiing with his family and the many children on the mountain.  He also enjoyed cycling, playing golf, woodworking, and volunteered as an Assistant Coach for Girl’s Hockey.  Memorial donations in Wayne’s memory can be made to the St. Jude’s Foundation or to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.
